How pissed must Kaido be that he didn't get the guy named Ace on his crew?
musicf3b I have the fealimg the calamities gave themselves those names and their real names are just based on their devilfruits, for example Jack the Mammoth Man. Kiado is kind of crappy at giving names.

All of Kaidos crew follow a card game theme even ones like Speed. Even X drake and Hawkins follow a card theme but they are also not Zoans. You dont need to be a Zoan to be part of Kaidos crew.
Even Doflamingo who worked under Kaido had the "Joker" code name.
What if Kaido was heading to Marineford to recruit Ace into his crew?
Ace was a very real character Matt:
- Son to a criminal
- Hated for his fathers crimes
- Confused and went to seek out answers
- Determined to prove himself even through extreme means
- Finding a father figure that, while tough was also caring
- HIs path was straighten out and he wanted to do right by his pops
- His pops was done wrong and so was he so to keep his own honor and his pops he decided he was going to kill a man, another human being
- He sought him out. He found him. What was first just a malice filled fight turned into a deathmatch because not only did you kill a friend you aimed for his blood brother.
- No words could save him. No words prepared Ace for a defeat either.
- Days to recollect while in custody only filled him with pain and regret.
- HIs final moments were surrounded by his friends and brother fighting for his life.
- He was at the cusp of freedom with his brother in tow but his pops name was stepped on. A man no more human then he was who accepted him when others wanted the opposite
- He fought for him. He died for his brothers life.
- His confusion cleared and his pain and regret left him while he left them with a peaceful smile.
Ace wasn't one of my favorite characters in OP. He lived his life though and I can respect that. Thanks for this discussion Matt, you might never see this but keep doing what you're doing and we'll support you all the way.

Ace and robin should have had an interaction, the two had very similar problems , both thought they should never had existed, the government targeted them and made them feel they didn't belong anywhere.

I actually didn't like Ace that much. Sure he was cool but he also was just a straight up jerk during quite a few moments. Like stealing food, having horrible table manners in a restaurant, just being an arrogant jackass to Buggy who was his host. Luffy also does that but he has plenty of moments of selflessness to make up for that. Ace didn't really. I would have really loved for Ace to have a moment like Luffy had on Drum island where he humiliates himself for the sake of another. Cause just from how he carries himself it's obvious he has quite an ego so submitting himself like that would be very hard.
To me Ace just kind of gave those vibes of someone who is cool but is extremely self-absorbed and really just a jerk. Not a bully but just not a pleasant person to be around. Sabo feels a lot more measured and pleasant. Also Sabo actually has something he's working towards.

Seeing Ace die & Luffy being so mentally damaged from it was probably the saddest thing I've seen in the series along with Luffy just basically going through something like this, damn... 😢😭
I cried when Ace died, but not only for Ace, I cried for Luffy too and the pain he must be feeling. And when I saw Sabo I cried also for Sabo that he never got to see Ace again after he was taken back to his Noble family.

Hypothetical: Would Ace have gone on to become Pirate King had he survived Marineford? Sengoku mentions in chapter 551 that Whitebeard was raising Ace to be the next Pirate King, and given his power, latent conqueror's haki, allies, and devil's determination (the same that Roger had) I think it makes sense that he would be. However, I believe the situation might be similar to the case of Kakashi and Naruto, where Ace would take the throne temporarily so that Luffy has more time to grow and then later on replaces Ace. Thoughts?
(Again, this theory exists in a One Piece universe where the story does not solely follow the Strawhats and it is not inevitable that Luffy will become Pirate King in accordance to the storytelling of Oda)
That's kinda interesting to think about but while Whitebeard was raising Ace to become the next Pirate King, it just wouldn't have happened, solely due to the fact that Ace himself isn't interested in becoming the Pirate King after meeting Whitebeard. Instead, Ace wanted to make Whitebeard the next Pirate King. I also doubt that Ace would hold the title of Pirate King until Luffy was ready as that title isn't something you can pass on like the title of Hokage in Naruto. The tile of Hokage can be passed down either due to death or willingly by the current Hokage. The title of Pirate King, however, can only seemingly be passed on after the current Pirate King has passed as, in order to become the King of Pirate, you must not only reach Laugh Tale but also learn about the history within One Piece and having two captains who knows about isn't something that fits the narrative. But it definitely would be cool to see both Ace and Luffy become Pirate King.

To make more sense of the magma killing Ace look at it from this perspective: if he made himself intangible to let the attack pass through using his logia ability; it would have phased all the way through him and hit Luffy. That's just one way of looking at it.

The reason why Ace became a pirate was to be free but hidden reason was to find an answer to his torment that being ( was it really ok for him to be born in this world ) and he got his answer when the whitebeard pirates and luffy came to help him, that's why he thanked luffy for loving him and told luffy to thank his crew mates for coming to help him.
That's the reason why i cried in that moment.
Thanks For sharing that at the end Tekking, that was super heartfelt and made me remember those I lost from my family, but that will carry on in my memories. Your grandfather had a great collection!

Ace has always been my favorite character, even after his death. When I first got introduced to One Piece through AMVs on RUclips at the age of 17 (funny enough at the same age Luffy began his adventure), I thought Ace was a cool character with the hat, the fire power and that smirk. I later watched some actual clips with subtitles and found out more about Ace's character, his relationship to Luffy and eventually his death. Then I discovered the Funimation dub on DVD at a local geek store and started following One Piece proper. Travis Willingham did a wonderful job voicing Ace and it only got better in the Marineford arc. Ace will be sorely missed, but his legacy will live on in Luffy and Sabo.

I'm late to the party but the story with Ace's mother reminds me of a Greek legend with how Apollo and Artemis were born. Hera had cursed their mother so she couldn't give birth anywhere on earth and when she finally found a way to deliver she'd been pregnant for about twenty months too. That's sort of an interesting parallel.
Random theory that's probably already been disproven: Ace has a long lost twin sister somewhere in the world whose entire thing is hunting. Lol probably not but eh.

As much as I love Ace’s character *(still one of my Top 5 OP characters),* I’m irritated as all hell that he was a victim of plot inconvenience. The fact that Haki wasn’t officially introduced into the story until after Ace died, is the main reason as to why he died. What makes it even worse, is the fact that we were shown in the ASL flashback that Ace actually possessed Conqueror’s Haki and he subconsciously used it, but he most likely never realized that he had said power in the first place. Such a shame. His character had so much potential that we hardly saw, and so little screen time to show what of it was left. Whatever. #RIPACE 🔥
