I was curious to see just how much it might cost for the foundation to keep picking up Mary as per the original containment procedure. The highest average national oil price in the 1970s was in 1979, at about $0.86 per gallon. Adjusted for inflation to 2021, that's $5.97 per gallon, but we'll round up to $6. For the sake of argument, let's say the Foundation vehicles used to patrol the road had fuel tanks with a capacity of 20 Gallons. The cost to fill the tank completely in 1979 would be $120. The length of Mayflower Rd. isn't really specified, but in this instance let's say 30 Miles. Also, I'm assuming a number of at least 5 vehicles deployed at a time. With the road being 30 Miles in length, and only being driven every hour for 24 hours, the number of miles traveled comes to about 720 Miles total. Even if the cars only got 10 Miles per gallon, not uncommon to cars of the 1970s, each vehicle would only expend 72 Gallons of fuel. Each vehicle would need to be filled 3.6 times, but again, let's round up to 4 for simplicity's sake. To fill one car to drive a distance of 30 Miles back and forth for 24 hours, assuming an average 10 MPG, it would cost the Foundation, when adjusted for inflation, comes to $480. That means the cost to fuel all five cars and have them running would be $2,400 dollars. $2,400 on the 19th of every month, coming to $28,800 annually. Bear in mind this number doesn't include taxes, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that the foundation has some sort of tax exemption. Even if it doesn't, even if it tacked an extra $10,000 on to the price tag, the cost is exceptionally low in terms of SCP containment procedures. There's so much you can do here tbh, you can take a diffrent route and avoid the graveyard, make her parents drive the car or make wait at the graveyard, you can do litterally anything here and somehow the researcher chose the worst possible option.
this doesn't line up the foundation has a worldwide budget to operate countless of agents around the world, employ tens of thousands death row inmates monthly, maintain tens of kilometers of deep underground tunnel, a tank full of acid, a giant doomsday prep pasement with cutting edge militant security technology, hold reality stabilizing anchors, and has a doctor with unlimited budget to trip around the world to "chase" an scp that he made up and you telling me that financing a monthly road trip in Muncie, Indiana was enough to make a substantial dent in their budget?
I read about a very similar sounding story in a book about ghosts. In the story, a boy went dancing with a girl. The boy brought the girl home and the girl borrowed his jacket. When the boy went back to the girl’s house for his jacket, he learned that the girl was dead for a while. The boy then went to the girl’s grave where he found his jacket.

Well like some other people said he was a dead man walking so there Was no need his death was granted
The video even says it was cause the Foundation suspected 1337 was going to kill him anyway. Probably preferred to wait and see rather than kill him first.
After turning an harmless SCP into a vengeful, violent one, Lawson deserves to be demoted to D-class.
Love the fact you mentioned Tomlinson Cemetery. Someone did research outside the SCP database.
“died in a car accident 30 years ago”
“got kidnapped on her way to school and was found dead”
im sorry which one is the correct one tho
lol so true
So the legend that the public knows is that she died in a car crash but what really happened to her is that she was kidnapped on her way from school and she was found dead.
"died in a car accident" is the local legend of the disappearing hitchhiker
"Kidnapped and brutally tortured" is what actually happened to her
30 years ago, she got kidnapped on her way to school and died in a car accident somehow
The kidnappers' car crashed. Simple
There are tons of stories about vanishing hichthikers, In Chile we have "La Rubia de Kennedy" or "The Blond from Kennedy", a Blond Caucasian Woman that appears in the Kennedy Highway.
Gracias por mencionarla, llevaba rato tratando de recordar el nombre de esa leyenda.

I find it sad that some SCPs start off safe and friendly but from one arrogant or overly curious person, it turns deadly
Lawson: kills to save gas
The foundation now needing to pay multiple agents to monitor the roads every month:😑
"If its not broken, don´t fix it" seems fitting here
There was a way better way to fix it, though. Just drive her to her parents' house and pick an alternate route that doesn't pass the graveyard.
@@vali_bg5234 ?? dr.lawson wanted a way to "fix" gas costs so he thought killing the parents would end it
Plus that wouldn't change anything dumbass they have to follow the route taking an alternate route would most likely waste more gas don't u think genius?
@@d.tcomma Please try thinking before writing the next time, would you? Vali theorized that driving her to her parents house without encountering the graveyard along the way would have permanently put her to rest and ended her appearences. Nobody is talking about the gas-prize motivation here.
@@d.tcomma I was saying if she ends up at her parents' house she will stop appearing, since she won't have unfinished business to do.
@@d.tcomma You still have time to delete your braindead comment. It helps to pay attention and read….
I wonder what would happen if drivers for her take a long way round, avoid the cemetery and drive her directly to her parent's house(obviously before her parents was killed, so ig this couldn't be tested out anymore)
That's what I thought the doctor would do
@@wisetree8330 same lol
I thought that was the solution dr lawson found
That was what was supposed to do! Jeez, can someone take the time traveling train?
Supervisor- "ok try to induce the apparition."
Agent- screams into the darkness.
Supervisor- "well that didn't work"
there's a bridge (can't remember where) that if you scream while standing on it at midnight you'll hear the disembodied voice of a woman screaming back at you and the lights on your car might flicker.
"So this square peg is fitting in this square hole."
"Yes."
"But it's a bit small for the hole so it falls out and you have to put it back it."
"That's right."
"But you have this hole that fits perfectly of having the parents do the job, so the ghost might have its purpose in life fulfilled, or be satisfied in seeing her parents one last time and never manifest again, alternatively, recruit her parents who would be happy to pay for gas to see their daughter."
"Correct."
"Or just keep putting the peg in the hole."
"It's kinda annoying."
"Okay, why don't you--"
"I know! Why don't I use the 500 IQ move of killing her parents so she'll stop arriving at the address that she never arrived at to begin with!?"
"...why can't you just use the fucking small peg?"

When I heard the guy was gonna stop the anomaly from reappearing, I thought he was just gonna not stop at the graveyard and take her to her house against her will. There's so much you can do here tbh, you can take a diffrent route and avoid the graveyard, make her parents drive the car or make wait at the graveyard, you can do litterally anything here and somehow the researcher chose the worst possible option.

what a nice ghostly girl, i sure hope no one burns down her parent's house
this doesn't line up
the foundation has a worldwide budget to operate countless of agents around the world, employ tens of thousands death row inmates monthly, maintain tens of kilometers of deep underground tunnel, a tank full of acid, a giant doomsday prep pasement with cutting edge militant security technology, hold reality stabilizing anchors, and has a doctor with unlimited budget to trip around the world to "chase" an scp that he made up
and you telling me that financing a monthly road trip in Muncie, Indiana was enough to make a substantial dent in their budget?
Ikr!!
But it's the gas! Think about the gas dude! Stuff's been high on demand lately in the SCP universe

“Bringing Mary Home” is such a good song though (about this legend).

As said by one of the foundation doctors, this is why we have SPECIAL CONTAINMENT PROCEDURES. You never know what will happen when you mess with the paranormal

Really goofy writing. A car driving 1 day every month at night is going to be a matter of 10 dollars of gas a year...
@confused af I think it would have been better if they leaned into the doctor being a glory hound or I dunno make him a fanatic of the occult who wanted to prove a point about the superiority of ancient ways of thinking to banish ghosts.
So to him 10 dollars a year is worth people’s life
@@quesocoatl21 Remember the old saying about reality and fiction: fiction has to make sense, reality doesn't...
@@quesocoatl21 I think this is better. Some people do stuff like this in hopes of getting a pat in the back by their bosses. Or they're just cheap and an idiot.
It was actually driving nonstop during during that whole day until she showed up. That'd be more than 10 dollars dude. Still not worth it but Lawson clearly just wanted an easy promotion if he got rid of the SCP
Mary wanted to See her Parents so what If instead of letting a d-class Pick Up Mary they should've let mary's Parents Pick her Up so she could've talked to Them one more time and then mabey, Just mabey she would've Stopped appearing, because she finally found Peace.
So rather then finding a solution to help a peaceful ghost find rest, they instead allowed a complete psychopath to create an even worse SCP that kills people. Smart, well done SCP foundation...
