This is so incredibly helpfull as someone who just wants a fast and easy way to install a graphics pack. Quick question, if i wanted to add say the cutting room floor content + the consistency fixes to the graphics overhaul pack, what would that entail? I'm not the savviest when it comes to this stuff. Thank you again for the wondefull tool and video tutorial!
Basically, in order to install a mod in OpenMW you need to add lines to your openmw.cfg file. The mod itself can go anywhere. I suggest you just create a folder for it in the style of the ones you already have, and then add a 'data=' line pointing to that mod folder. The mod folder itself should contain the mod's files (ie: Textures, Meshes, Sounds, etc. folders), as well as their plugins (ie: .esp, .omwaddon, .omwscripts, etc.). The ordering of these 'data=' lines is important. Anything loaded later will overwrite things loaded before, wherever applicable. You'll also need to add `content=` lines to enable these plugins (the same ordering rules apply), or `groundcover=` or whatever it is you're adding. If the mod doesn't have any plugins, then of course you don't need to worry about this. Additionally, if you want to continue to use the momw-configurator to periodically update your lists you can add Customizations to your momw-configurator.toml file (located in `Documents\My Games\OpenMW` on Windows). You can add clauses to remove, add, or replace lines in your .cfg every time you run the configurator, so that you can keep your mods installed, even if they aren't on our mod lists. That's much more complicated than just adding mods, though, so maybe just don't run the momw-configurator again hehe. If you do want to do that, though, reach out to me on Discord and we can hack it up.
It's a false positive. We're in the process of getting the application approved through Microsoft again, but for some reason it takes a very long time to complete. We think this is happening because we've packaged the required Python files inside the application itself, so that users wouldn't have to have Python installed. Anyways, I assure you that everything in the Tools Pack is 100% safe, and if you're still skeptical you could collect the programs through their individual Gitlab pages. The code is open source, so you can see exactly what each program does.
@@gonzogames438 I wonder what is going in then, the first time it flagged something like id:generic.keylogger and the second time something like giant.variant.7 , unfortunately bitdefender doesn't seem to log the actual message that popped up (forced to BD by kapersky bs). it's disconcerting to say the least.
Hi! Thank you for the video. I'm still having some issues starting the download from Nexusmods, when I press slow download it doesn't start downloading the file, nothing is changing on the powershell window. I'm trying to install the i-heart-vanilla-directors-cut pack if that makes a difference.

Check this page out: modding-openmw.com/tips/customizing-modlists/ Also review the momw-configurator site: modding-openmw.gitlab.io/momw-configurator/. Between the two you should be able to make any customizations you need. I have some of my own.
followed the steps getting through setup. running into a red text line that says "there were problems during testing the extraction of rar files" ive tried to reconfig command and deleting the cfg file and starting over again and still the same line. Any thoughts?
Can I minimise download time if I have already downloaded some of these files when I was modding using Mod Organiser 2? Can I just drag the downloads from the MO2 folder to my cache folder?
I think it's possible, but it's a bit of a hassle, since you kinda have to know the format umo wants it all in. Even though it takes more time, I recommend just letting umo grab it all for you, since it's less of a hassle.
So, trying to install through UMO, I can't seem to get it to download Normal Maps, and it keeps popping the Nexus page up constantly, as if it's continually trying to download, but keeps failing the download. The progress bars reach 100 percent, then it's like the file vanishes. I've tried reconfiguring, I've tried using the -b argument, and it's still giving me an issue with these 7 normal map mods, and I'm almost at the point of just trying to manually install total overhaul, but I also don't want to have to deal with that hassle. Also, the beta branch of Total Overhaul just hangs at 88 percent, repeatedly trying to download an additional pack of mods
There were some issues with some of the "Normal Maps For Everything" files not downloading correctly, which has been fixed in the latest release of umo. I would give that a shot, or maybe even hopping into the Discord server where we can better troubleshoot this, if that doesn't do the job. It's worth noting that it is normal for umo to continue to pop open windows. You gotta just keep clicking "Slow Download" when it prompts you to, even if it appears as if umo stalled or something.
Hi my total-overhaul archive download keeps stopping at 93%. I am still prompted to download from nexus, I go to install them but none of the files have come up. I have reconfigured it, and reinstalled it. How do I get past this? Space is not an issue.
One of the mods has like 40 or something downloads. If it still prompts you with "Slow Download" buttons it hasn't broken or anything. Just keep mashing :D
I am getting an error when running the command ".\umo setup" through PowerShell: "tes3cmd.exe is either not existent or not executable" The Nexus page also doesn't open as expected. At any rate, that file is indeed inside the folder, so I figured that this could be caused by the false positive, but the error persists even when I add the folder and the file to the list of exceptions in Windows Defender. This is also the second time I've used this method and the first time worked without issues, but I was unhappy with some of the mods and deleted them. Could this also be a possible cause, was I not thorough enough uninstalling the previous mod pack and this is causing the error, or should I be taking different steps when installing a new mod list?
This might happen if you had used umo in the past and things have changed. Does the error still occur if you .\umo reconfig? Alternatively, you could navigate to '%localappdata%\umomwd\umomwd' and delete the config.json file in there and try the setup command once more. This should be entirely unrelated to the false positives. Those are exclusive to umo.exe and groundcoverify.exe due to how each program packages python in the executable.
@@gonzogames438 Whether I run .\umo reconfig or delete the .json file, I get: "Error, couldn't launch child ([Error 225] Operation did not complete successfully because the file contains a virus or potentially unwanted software."
@@maou8253 Well this is unfortunate. The reason this is happening is because your Windows Security has quarantined the program. You can manually allow it through your security panel and it should work, then. One member of the team, Ronik, wrote up a great post about why this is happening, and I'll attempt to summarize it here. Basically, we use pyinstaller and nuitka to package Python inside of the standalone executables for umo and groundcoverify, respectively, just to make it more convenient for the end user (ie: you don't need to go out of your way to also install Python). Unfortunately, some people have used both pyinstaller and nuitka in the past for actual malicious software, so they just blacklist apps which use it as a hard rule, which is a good idea on paper, but as a consequence it also causes false-positives for legitimate apps like these ones. It's always reasonable to be skeptical of running other people's software on your machine, especially if Windows quarantines it, but these projects are completely open source and you can go to their individual repos to read the code if you have the ability to and their CI/CD pipelines for every build of the app. Personally, I can assure you that these programs are 100% safe, but I'm just a random dude on the internet, so I don't expect you to just blindly trust me.
@@gonzogames438 I already had the whole momw tools (and openmw) folder added to my list of exceptions, but Windows Defender somehow still blocked every single .exe file, so turns out I found a different error through each step of the installation. In the end I had to add every individual .exe file to the list of exceptions but everything is working now. Thank you.
Friend, the console text is much too small. I'm watching this on a tv in hd but I can't read anything. Sure I can follow the audio and the larger text for the commands, but still, this is pretty bad.
.\umo does not work. ".\umo : The term '.\umo' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again."
This indicates that you aren't in the folder you should be. Make sure you're in the tools folder, then Shift+Right-Click the folder background like you see me do in the video, then select 'Open Powershell window here'. Then that command should work, assuming umo.exe is in that tools folder. It should be since that's how we package it, but it's worth making sure it's still there
White triangles indicates that something went wrong. I would try a .\umo reconfig, and start the process over. It shouldn't take too long since you already have everything downloaded, assuming you didn't just delete all of that.
