    Let's ALL admit this...
    We all want to be able to pull out a cool, blazing fast bass fill once in a while, right?
    Well, I certainly do.
    If you're like me, you're going to LOVE this lesson...
    I'm going to show you a specific right hand technique that bass players such as Anthony Jackson, Richard Bona, Hadrien Feraud and countless other awesome bass players use to allow them to be able to play BLAZING FAST bass fills.
    And NO... this time it's nothing to do with hammer on or pull off's...
    It's something else!
    I should also say, we've got two very special guests in this lesson... and one of my favourite bands!
    Intrigued?!
    I hope so ;)
    As always, see you in the shed...
    Scott :)

    I have to say. I haven’t picked up my bass in 15 years or so because I just didn’t feel it anymore. But I came across your RUclips page and I have to say that spark seems to be coming back. I never thought it would but here it is. Thank you for that and please keep up the good work.

    For anyone struggling with this technic, try descending every shape and scale you know. Every time you do it, start with a different finger. You want to get to the point where you don't have to think about it anymore.

    It's one thing to "know" something, but a completely different thing to "teach" it to others. And Scott Devine does it masterfully. He is really really talented at getting his message across, better than anyone else I've seen on RUclips. Thank you for the videos, God bless you Scott.

    The chilean fusion bassist Igor Saavedra has develop a technique in his right hand for "economy picking", UP and DOWN the strings of the bass (very usefull for 6 or more strings basses), BEFORE Damian Erskine, Dominique di Piazza, Adrien Feraud, Felix Pastorius... since 1993 or before. Check that! (sorry for my english, saludos cordiales.)

    I just wanna say that you Scott had a lesson basically saying stay away from economy picking. The lesson involved playing C major scale arpeggios up and down. I’m almost positive you stated that alternate picking slows you down, and to always alternate

  • @GeroLubovnik
    @GeroLubovnik 6 лет назад +4

    I saw your original video which used alternate ascending and raking descending on the Cmaj scale with one-note turn-arounds on both ends. That really cleared things up and I've incorporated that into all my playing (and it's helped a ton). WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS? I cannot see any difference between the technique in the two videos except the presentation.

  • @kylebustard4434
    @kylebustard4434 6 лет назад +1

    The Hadrien Feraud clip--it looks like he's just alternating his fingers (leading with his middle finger) on that ascending chromatic lick. Still a great video, Scott!

    Now you tell me that I did it wrong all my life 😣 I do that exact technique but its middle index middle middle index middle middle. One thing is for sure mate. You are by far the best teacher out there. Really love watching yer vids even though I play upright mainly. Love yer guts!

  • @danyavilaoficial
    @danyavilaoficial 6 лет назад

    I saw this technique first time in 1997 in a recording session in Los Angeles with bassist extraordinaire IGOR SAAVEDRA doing it UP and DOWN , he always mentioned FRANK GAMBALE as his inspiration in developing this technique. He was blazing fast. He recorded a version of THE FLIGHT OF BUMBLEBEE for bass.

  • @robi5722
    @robi5722 6 лет назад

    Blazing fast, the ultimate bass trick, the fantabulous and definitive bass technic, fast as light arpeggios, master the bass as a Pro in under a nanosecond....... :-D MAN YOU'RE GREAT!!!!!! Half of the videos is cabaret, but.... that's also the reason why I follow you! 5 Stars ;-D

    I was having difficulty doing this because I kept alternating between my index leading and my ring finger leading on the A. I use my ring finger to jump to lower notes from higher strings on descents, so I’ve got to rework this a bit, but it should be fun.
    I also up-pick with my index finger on occasion (just sort of happens without thinking about it), so I’m going to see where that fits in. Fun little spark here!
