  • This was our first installation of an Electric Vehicle Backup system paired with solar. Really excited to be installing the @ford Charge Station Pro and the Delta hybrid inverter. Now, companies like @EnphaseEnergy plan on launching similar products later next year that will be universal so you can use any electric vehicle to power your home during a grid outage.

    Dale, pleasure to meet you today. Great great great information that even Sun Run doesn't have. Thank you so much for this video and knowledge dump today.

    That is a zombie apocalypse proof system! Wow, that is my new dream system. All I would add is a gas generator, ammo & beer. Then good to go!

    The 10 kw delta inverter has to be specifically selected when purchasing the home integration system if you buy the equipment through AEE solar (SunRun affiliate) if you are in a state that SunRun doesn’t service. I’m not sure how to obtain the 10 kw inverter when dealing directly with SunRun. Nice install, I’ve had my back up system for my lightning installed for about 3 months and it was a total DIY. Works great.

      Do you mind me asking how you did this?

    Great system!
    I am another solar contractor in Southern California going on 2 decades in the industry. I appreciate your company's for being one of the few companies willingness to be the first to install & test some of the new tech in our industry.
    I may be a little more conservative in the systems I trust. But I have to give credit where its do, even to a competitor.
    So did you end up switching the existing PV to now run through the Delta Inverter?
    Thanks for all the videos & not just selling solar to customers but also Educating consumer to all of the new product on the makes.
    Kudos to Pacific Suntech on another nice installation.

      Yes, we DC coupled the new system to the inverter since the documentation had no instructions on how to AC couple the existing Enphase system. The first page of the specification sheet for the Delta inverter says AC coupling as a bullet point but we didn’t want to do that without any installation guide.

      @@PacificSunTech thank you for showing how a stand alone instrument ( for now im wanting to opt-out of permanent housing battery as it's just to much $$ vs my user case but the truck-battery makes it much better as i could use it and or i can skip running diesel/gas/lpg pad-generator 80%+ of the time from a winter storm and winds nocking out my internet and power supply average-once's a year for 2h-3~days ) works and with a 400 amp usa unitys as that's my setup for now wish there was a 400AMP-bypass ATS shown so i could buy the correct size parts as adding 200amps enfase/ac-coupled ( just easier to get it serviced ( im not traded in DC-200+v's and most electricians and solar company-techs ( plus id have to ship in/waiting for replacement parts-ect ) are the same way as me aka 120V to 480-3p is something that can fixed easily and technically safer* for residential installations ) and change sizing in my areas of northern Utah ) solar is later on in my plans

    Are you able to share what the range of this project cost approximately? Great video!

    Are there KO's in the mounting base of the charger for the conduits?

    Would you happen to know if the Ford bi-directional charger is locked to Fords only? I'm thinking of a scenario to use this charger with one of the EP Cube's ports on a similar EV. At some point in the future Canadian Solar should offer bi-directional charging for the EP Cube.

      From my understanding it only works with the ford lightning. It appears to be software locked.

    You didn't answer the biggest question I have. In the event of a prolonged outage can the solar that comes directly into this system/inverter be used to charge the Lightning with any excess production? For example, if your Lightning is down to 20%, your solar array is producing 5kW of juice and your house is only using 2kW, would the excess 3kW be used to charge the Lightning, or is charging during an outage not possible? It would be a huge miss if this isn't possible. The only information I can find on it is a video by State Of Charge from over 2 years ago that says you can't but Ford is looking into it...

      Hey! From our understanding that should be the case

    Is the existing solar using microinverters or string inverter? One of my gripes with the proposal from SunRun was that their solar is string inverter only. I have shading issues, and from what I understand, that means that microinverters would be preferred.

    • @PacificSunTech
      @PacificSunTech  9 месяцев назад +1

      The existing system is Enphase micro inverters. We wanted to retro the system as AC coupled but were unable to confirm in the Ford/SunRun manuals if it supported AC coupled solar. We do know the regular hybrid Delta E-series inverter can be AC coupled, but not clear on this EV hybrid inverter so we DC coupled 8 panels with Tigo optimizers.

      Micro inverters are trash we pull them off systems all the time and throw them out. They fail constantly.

      Tigo optimizers aren’t much better.

    When you ask the solar industry what 2+2 is, they will tell you it’s the cube root of 64. Then, they’ll quote you for your project with double the cost of materials and 4x the average rate for electrical work.

    • @PacificSunTech
      @PacificSunTech  7 месяцев назад

      It’s a specialty trade, just like a heart surgeon. I’m sure you don’t expect them to charge the same rate as a general physician.

    Having an external 12V battery is so incredibly stupid it's painful to even contemplate the conversations had about the decision.

      but at least it works as bi-directional power and the option for skipping a wall-mounted hole home battery aka Tesla's power wall as just the truck alone and service upgrades are $$ to me/us aka straining the bank accounts ect

    I can think of alot cheaper way to get a portable battery backup for the house. I would hope California still has the net zero or 1for1 exchange for the excess power he generates during the day.
    Charging at 20kw an hour thats alot of juice. Is it really worth it? You have a very expensive town truck. Heaven for bid you'd have an emergency and need to get somewhere fast. I guess you could run over to your neighbors ask if you could borrow their useless ol gas burner because you have an emergency and you need to get there fast. That might work🤔

      "Is it really worth it?" -- Yes, if you already own the truck with V2H capability.
