If there is water in the engine sometimes you can get the spark plugs off and start it and water might come out. Not sure though for gas engines but it works on propane generators
Glad those were freebies, ARV, I was afraid you were going for the Beatles look, hahaha! Still, gotta respect a man who'll use a forklift as a can opener.
Michael Johnson the 4.7 liter v8s are total gas guzzlers especially if you drive aggressively. It’s a fun engine for that little truck though so can’t complain too much
Hate fuel pumps, you can cross the fuel relay by removing it and plugging a wire in with two spades connectors in the correct recesses to get you home, would check if you have a remote filter outside of the tank, could be blocked or a swift tap on the side of the tank with the ignition on could jiggle it to work. Great vid thanks.
The position that some maintenance items are fitted on modern vehicles, you really have to wonder what the design and development engineers were thinking or smoking during the development...
I've been watching your videos for over a year now...It's great to see how much your channel has grown. Good job. Can't wait to see you travel around with the truck and camper.

Just did a fuel pump in my 03 ranger, wicked similar to the dodge. Just finish ripping that bed off as you are ingeniously, get a 2×4 and rest it against the top of the collar holding the fuel pump in (should be small notches), lightly tap on the 2x4 with a rubber mallet and you'll have it out in no time. Did a complete fuel pump replacement with my buddy in 1.5 hrs after taking the bed off and doing just that
Happy late 4th man! With everything going on in this country rn I feel like we need as many proud young patriots as we can get. I’m proud to be an American and always will be 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 keep up the great content
I'd say the ending is probably why some are thumb downing this video. I understand there's no sentimental attachment Rural Vermonter has with vehicles. But the farmer ingenuity tactics he uses with fork lifts and large overhead cranes I hope he doesn't make a habit with them as he gets older. The amount of work so far put into this engine swap is more then I would dare tackle myself. It will be impressive if he gets this project done and has a daily driver out of it.
*If you'd have taken a floor jack out there that might have helped you get the motor and trans mated up a bit quicker and would have helped get the engine mount bolts in a little quicker too. Yeah if the fuiel pump was popping relays it probably crapped the bed and wouldn't start the truck any way*
Thats some access port you made on the blue truck. I doubt you would be able to remove the cab if the bolts holding the tank straps rusted that bad. Its probably the same situation with the cab mount bolts.
If those sunglasses are Krewe then they retail for $3-400, that's what I've seen online just now. Did you ever find out what the noise was on the Cobalt? That Dakota will run without too much work, it was so close just on the starter fluid.
@@ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182 Is that what those glasses are? I wasn't sure if you'd said Krewe or Crude so I googled both, crude brought up nothing but Krewe did....pawn them and pay for your wheel bearing 😂
Rust like that happens on all makes. Here in Vermont, it's just a testament to people who are too lazy and/or stupid to wash the underside of their vehicles as well as what shows.
i had a dodge dakota same color red my worst used vehicle purchased ever rust bucket and a money pit,i traded it in last july for a colorado i'm actually a Ford guy but i'd figured i would give other manufacturers a try.
My family has a rear engine Snapper riding mower that has a problem. It sputters in the high RPMs and stalls when we put the throttle down lower, even with a full tank of gas. Has a similar engine to the old John Deere twin cylinder you had, but only one cylinder. Any idea what might be causing the problem?
Oof with early 2000 Dakota's being the definition of POS .. this series is a little intriguing as I am very skeptical of one POS benefiting another POS!! But anyways kudos to you for doing something that no body else would do and that is giving that truck a Better motor
I dunno man, I got an 02 dakota with the 3.9l v6 and its pretty great, not the strongest or fastest, but definitely more so than other similar trucks. Super reliable in my case, maybe mines a fluke lol
My nephew drove his 2000 Dakota to the junk yard with a tick over 300,000 miles on its original drivetrain. It was rusting and needed front hubs and he had gotten a free car so he junked the Dakota - but it ran like a champ for a long time.

You also made a dump truck out of the blue truck with that fork lift.
You should grab one or two of the anti fatigue mats from Hammer Freight.
Pretty amazing to lay on when working outdoors. And cheap of course.

Michigan everything is rusty, Toyota’s are funny they’re so “good” but they all have bad frames here at least American makes have good frames.
What happened did you ever finish it?
Oh and if the other one had working ac just drain the freyon and add it to little red and you’ll have ac if it starts
Flexplate bolts? Didn't see those mentioned.
yep 4 of them thats what i did while lying under the truck
Nice looking Ford sitting near it
There isn’t a Ford sitting anywhere near the Dodge!!! The truck next to the red Dodge is his Chevy diesel work horse!!!!
it actually is a ford, the chevy diesel was at home
Was this the last we got to see of the Dakota?

Which is better 454 or 496 I heard the 496 had weak walls
454 is more reliable but 496 can be built up to be more powerful and nearly as reliable if done right
