@@HudsonHenryPhoto I use the 40 1.2 with the Zf. Love it. Tempted to look at the 50... but should probably just be happy where I am. 🤷😀

WOW,what a time you all had! It looked out of this world. And the Kid-O's, what great photographers, I guess the "Apple never falls far from the tree". At one moment, I thought I saw Gary in a shot, but it was only Rick, I am so sad.

Great video and looks like it was a lot of fun!
I got to see it at a combined "Birds in Flight/Solar Eclipse Photo Session" at the Canadian Raptor Conservancy. We shot Birds of Prey from noon till 1:30, then transitioned to the eclipse (C1 was at about 2:03) and we had clear skies for the 3 minutes of totality. It was a great day, but without your guidance on exposure, I would have been lost, so thank you for that.

Thanks Hudson and Rick for this amazing experience! It was nice to finally meet both of you - Diane and I had a wonderful time and it was such a fun group. Kudos to everyone! The daily training paid off immensely and experiencing totality was a first for me. Centro couldn’t have been much better. What an AMAZING historic district of the city. The photographic opportunities provided wonderful opportunities during our “in between” moments. Even if there’s no more eclipses in Mazatlán this place is definitely on my radar- even if just for vacation. Thanks to both of you guys for putting this very productive and meaningful workshop together…Cheers! Mac

Just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you for all of your tips and advice on photographing the solar eclipse a few weeks back. I absolutely crushed it with a sequence over Terminal Tower in Cleveland, Ohio and ended up with one of the best shots of the day, in part to your advice on planning. Thank you for what you do! Cheers man

Great video! We had very little to do in Rochester, NY other than appreciate the eclipse since the 10/10’s clouds made photography useless. I really like the way you captured the speed of the moon’s shadow across the sky.

Great shots and good times for the group and family. I live in Louisville, KY and drove 30 minutes north to Scottsburg, IND to get inside the totality path. My regret was not going 20 - 30 minutes farther north. Where I was totality only lasted 1 min. and 4 sec. so I didn't even try to remove the solar filter and adjust the settings. We were next to a white gravel parking lot and saw the shadow bands. Watching for post edited shots

Thanks for sharing. I shot from the Buffalo, NY area. Mostly cloudy, but there were enough breaks in the clouds to put a decent sequence composit together. I had to flip one shot over to make a 13 shot symmetric sequence. My first total eclipse. The word "wow" came out of my mouth before I realized what I was saying. I was surprised at how fast it went into darkness.

Thanks for sharing and for the technical info prior! I shot it in Ohio with the Z9 and the 180-600 with a cheap solar film filter. Worked great, the 9 stop bracketing was the thing to do for totality and I also bracketed 3 stops every 5 minutes for the partial eclipse, just in case. In Ohio where I was, we only had 2:20 of totality, so I could not really look at the eclipse for fear I would miss the progressing totality, but still enjoyed it! 6 minutes of totality in Spain would be amazing! Looking forward to your processing tips!
PS, I am a birder and noticed that the birds were singing up until totality and then went silent, then on the other side of totality, started singing again as if it were sunrise!

Glad that all went well at the workshop in Mazatlan. It wasn’t Mazatlan, but, I was able to shoot the eclipse from my patio. Followed the recommendations from the download, but, I thought the 9 stop bracketing was a bit of overkill. Great captures all the same, though.

Glad you enjoyed it Ken. With a bit of high cloud, the 9 stops are a bit, but you get clear weather and a big corona, and you'll be glad for them. In either case, better too much than too little. ;)

We set up in Indianapolis, IN. Years of planning to watch anywhere from Texas to Ohio and we ended going to my 2nd cousin's and having a mini reunion. In the last week we based ourselves out of Bowling Green, KY so we could go anywhere from northern Arkansas to Cleveland Ohio. We made our final decision the night before. Bowling Green was well outside outside the path but close enough to have normal hotel prices.
BTW, I was surprised that there was maybe only 1 equatorial mount or star tracker at your workshop.
My setup was a Z8 with an adapted EF mount Tamron 150-600 G2 mounted on to my astrophotography star tracker so I didn't have to worry about framing. The Sky-Watcher Star Adventure 2i. It's very portable and no need for a meridian flip which would otherwise be needed on other more complex mounts.
I'll share my album in a reply. So far mentioning how to search for my album using the hosting site's name, not a link, apparently causes my comment to get deleted after a few seconds (theory).

    • @ElGrecoDaGeek
      @ElGrecoDaGeek 3 месяца назад

I've tried to share how to get to my album 5 times now but mentioning how to find it or sharing via link fails each time even when I intentionally misspell the site's name. Apparently RUclips is removing it.

If you search for my name, Pavlos Honderich, on a popular photo site that is a misspelling of a word meaning to shine unsteadily you'll find it.

I use trackers for milky way only. It's very easy to align eclipse images for stacking bracketed sets and the exposures are not slow enough to warrant hauling a tracker for me. That guy was not with us.

Looks like a blast! Too bad no more spots for the workshop. I went to Central Texas Hill Country instead. Spent pretty much the same amount of $$$. It was cloudy but still got lucky to get some shots and experience totality in person. 2017, 2024, and now, 2026 (Iceland or Spain).

I’m in southern Ontario and we had quite a bit of cloud but could still see it. I had the 100-400 on but when totality hit I adjusted my settings and didn’t have it in frame apparently so I zoomed out to 100 adjusted my settings again reframed and then took all my 9 bracket bursts at 100mm. 😂. Still got some I’m happy with though.
