    They closed for 4 days back in March to redo the place a bit. New carpet, got rid of a few things, added a few new things, etc. In 30 years they'd only been closed 2 days. One was for Marvin's funeral (1-12-17) and one day was for a power outage. I was his first employee when it opened. I go back there a lot to visit and also did a video or two about it on my channel. Marvin was a great man and a very unique character. If you ever come back to town let me know and I'll show you all the things that Marvin loved there and some backstory on it. .... I'll let the know the cobra is broken. HA!

    • @JohnPullum
      @JohnPullum 6 лет назад +85

      Even after going there for 30 years I still see things that I didn't notice before from the pinball ceiling in the entrance way to the posters over the main counter. As you may know, Marvin was a pharmacist by day and did this when he wasn't doing that. He loved making people smile. You can see him in your video the first time you were there. If you are still in town check out the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. The museum has the chair Lincoln was shot in, Rosa Park's bus, etc. It's an amazing place that you could wander around for an entire day.

    • @johndavidrogers9424
      @johndavidrogers9424 Год назад +3

      Yup. Little bit of background on this: The name "Tally Hall" is based off of a real place called Tally Hall in a similar area in Michigan. I guess it was some kind of food court, but really to me it just seemed like some sort of mall with a ton of shops/stores in it. The only "shop" left that's still standing today is Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum, which now has its own standalone building. Tally Hall named their first album after this place in tribute of the original Tally Hall.
      Also, watching this video should give you a bit more background on some of their songs, specifically "Welcome to Tally Hall". Lines like "We're a marionette quintet" make a lot more sense after you visit this place.

    The three birds are called the Warblettes, and pig I am pretty sure is a opera singing pig that I can't remember the name of, but she was part of a "Special Guest" series at Pizza Time Theatre which included a country singing coyote, and and a disco singing skunk named Sally Skunk.
    Edit: Actually, the pig didn't sing any genre of music, just HOGGED the spotlight and told joke and things like that. Her name was Madame Oink. The skunk was Sally Sashé and she did sing disco. The coyote was named Harmony Howlet. Also, the Warblettes went extinct for 1 year, and were replaced by three singing girls called the Mopsey Sisters.
    To anyone who wasted a small part of their time to read this out of curiosity, have a great day ❤

Crowded & loud, u never know which arcade attractions will be out-of-service on any given day, as they require constant maintenance, yet still well worth the trip. M.M. features some fantastically dated & obscure games, "movies," & mechanical marvels.

    It was very sad when I heard marvin had passed. It didn't feel long since I last spoke to him.
    Very knowledgeable and charged essentially nothing for coins to show off the collection (with deals that they ran you could actually leave the place with MORE money than you came in with if you didn't use all the coins) .
    After that, they seemed to be hemorrhaging machines, with ones I remember being there disappearing. I think a family member is running it now and I wonder if they just dont have the same connections to get the things fixed like marvin did if they ever break. It is interesting that they have a few japanese rhythm games that are usually only at places like Round1 though, as those are always good fun.

    This place reminds me of a place we had in Dallas from 1978 to 2013. It was a 1920s themed pizza place called Crystals Pizza. It had a cartoon theatre set up like a 20s theatre, a main eating area with 20s decor, arcades, live entertainment on Saturdays and a coin op mechanical fortune teller. Sadly it closed in 2013 due to the new owner not keeping the place up. About 6 months ago it was finally torn down. Happy memories and I was sad to see it go.

    My older cousin used to work there! She would take me there regularly when I visited Michigan for family. When I was younger, she would sometimes unlock some of the games so I could get a little stuffed animal. It's a great place to visit!!
