    im also grateful for this series. bought the book maybe a year ago but have yet to significantly dive in, as a beginner to pd, or even max or any other code based audio program. i always give up and just use vcv rack
    but this is really great and inspiring. keep them coming

    Thanks for the tutorials! I’ve been reading Andy Farnell’s book as well but I haven’t gotten around to implement the patches yet.

      And yes, it was life changing to learn as a student how to hear/identify those frequencies.

    This is so cool! I am mostly in live sound so identifying those frequencies is a great trick.
    When do you decide to use a recorded sample versus creating the sound in Max or Plugdata?

    • @SoundSimulator
      @SoundSimulator  3 месяца назад +1

      Indeed!!
      As for that question, I haven't done actual sound design work for film nor games so I can't be that insightful. I think sound designers will use recorded sounds as much as possible.
      In Farnell's sound design book, I think there was a mention of older gaming hardware having memory limitation so creating sound effects with synth was the way to go.
      At the very least, putting together that sound design reel ended up being a really great exercise!!

    Nice! I've re-created in FaustDSP (can be pasted and run at Faust IDE):
    process = no.noise fi.lowpass(5, 4000) : *(t : en.ar(0.1, 0.1))
    with {
    t = button("woosh");
    filt(f) = fi.resonbp(f, 2, 1);
    freqs = (200, 123, 300) : (+(t : en.ar(0.08, 0.12): *(50)), _, _);
    f = par(i, 3, fi.resonbp(freqs : ba.selectn(3, i), 2, 1));
    };

    How about a bit of distortion

    • @SoundSimulator
      @SoundSimulator  3 месяца назад

      Definitely! There's always room for distortion.
      I mention it a bit towards the end.
