Thank you so much for such a great lesson! I'm from south of Brazil... And I'm a Big fan of your Work! Please keep posting your portrait videos... They're making a great Impact over my way of painting and seeing what Watercolor is all about! Wish I could attend one of your workshops! Thanks for spreading your knowledge the way you do!!
Really helpful, thanks for demonstrating how to do this and explaining what you are looking for. Also really appreciate being able to see you mix on your palette as well as how much water you are using any different times.
hello, thank you so much for showing us how to paint this portrait....i think i will watch through first, and then replay when i am ready to follow along. i feel this will be a good way for me. many, many good wishes from australia shell xx
Painting can be very experimental. Don't worry about much when you are not sure. Just put the color on the paper, if it is too dark, then wash to make it lighter; or if this color is too light, then add a new layer of the color after it dry. Be relaxing.
You are the most easiest water colour artist to follow on video, thank you! I find it always difficult to find the right base colour of the skin, gues it takes experience, Im rather a beginner....I enjoy your portrait videos so much...regards Robyn
Best video all around here. I have seen many, but this is the most generous and helpful. Thank you so much for this lesson and for the time you take to explain us.
I have learned something here from Mr. Yong Chen. " Lifting off the color after dried. " Especially the reflective light area in the shadow area ! Thank you very much. 伍榮基 紐約註冊建筑師
Thank you so much for the great teaching video. You talk really well and I love the way you describe what you are doing or what you want to achieve. From Australia.
Ingrid, thank you for your support for being our patron. I will try to make regular new videos and explain the painting process. Please let me know what you like to see and learn in the future.
Thanx a lot Sir for the lovely tuition and guidance because I have learned a lot from the same Keep it up with the good painting work for we learn something new from it. Waiting for more information from you
Your tutorials are fantastic. I'm learning watercolor from you. Thank you. May I ask you why you use only one thick brush when brushes of different sizes and shapes are available?
Fantastic work. So easy to follow you step by step. Is this more of a wet on dry? Seems that the colors don't run all over each other. Thank you for the great work and sharing your talent with us.
Excellent tutorial! The only improvement that I would like to see (for my understanding) would be to see the reference image as you paint. Thanks for a well-explained and demonstrated video!
your videos are always amazing and really helpful to me as a beginner!! i was wondering, do you happen to have a video on color relativity? i found a video on your channel on how to mix watercolors, but what's difficult for me is CHOOSING which color to put down, or which colors to mix into my paint to get the right shade. i guess a lot of it comes from practice, but i was wondering if there are some rules to make it easier? like, sometimes you suddenly put blue on top of brown hair! or purple on skin! and it works!!
Rawan, are you a member of EnjoyingArt community? If you are then you can access to the library, some basic video lessons will explain the thinking process and painting steps. Some of those lessons are not yet release to the public. In the future I will talk more about color system in future video lessons. enjoyingart.com
For this painting, I used Strathmore 140lb Cold Press. The colors are Winsor & Newton Professional grade Winsor Red, Winsor Yellow and Prussian Blue. Let me know if you have other questions. Happy painting.
Because squeezing a wet brush is like petting a squirrel. You appreciate how precious it is because it's soft. Actually I have no idea. But I like to pet my dry brushes already. Maybe I'll convert to squeezing them when they get too full.
Either way is work for reducing water from the brush. For me, using two fingers gives me lot the sense of more control in this process. Before each application, I know how much water I would need in the brush, and I can better sense when I use my own fingers than paper towel or tissue.
The brush I used in this video was a #12 sable round brush. On this page I have more information on the tools and materials used in my most video demonstrations: enjoyingart.com/learningcenter/materials_watercolor.php
Thanks, Tanya, for answer to Marisa. I have more information on the materials and tools that I used in most of my video lessons: enjoyingart.com/learningcenter/materials_watercolor.php

This is awesome! Getting the values right in the face seems to be my biggest struggle.

I have a question...why don't you use paper to dry your brush?
Because squeezing a wet brush is like petting a squirrel. You appreciate how precious it is because it's soft.
Actually I have no idea. But I like to pet my dry brushes already. Maybe I'll convert to squeezing them when they get too full.
