Shady Website & SEO Companies: How to identify them (For small business owners)

I think a lot of these SEO and website companies need to be dealt with in the court of law. They are literally taking money from small businesses and not doing what they agreed to do. It's stealing. It is a crime. Let's get with it already...damn it, man!
Things to look for:
👉 Fake Google Partner Badges
👉 They use a Gmail or other non-company email
👉 They have broken links on their site
👉 Their website looks like crap!
👉 heir website has broken links
👉 They have 0 reviews
👉 Their business name is just stuffed keywords
👉 The website is full of obvious English as a 2nd language or misspelled words
👉 No one's face appears on the website at all

Great info. What if a company grabbed your domain name and own it without you knowing anything about marketing or domain names? Is this a known trick for SEO businesses? I just found out that our domain name is own by a local company we host our website with.
Sorry to hear this. I've run into 1 similar situation where the India-based company my client previously used had bought the domain and not given the owner access to it. Since they were 100% a fraudulent web/SEO service they had changed their name, phone, and email by the time I started working with them so we had no way to get ownership by asking them. We tried calling GoDaddy to prove ownership (because this is where this particular domain was registered...), but GoDaddy is the biggest fraudulent web/SEO company out there, so they did not care or help at all.
My best advice is to request access to your domain as nicely as you can and hope they provide it.
If not, reach out to the registrar and see what they say. Use whois.com to find out where your domain is registered if you don't know.
If you have access to your website, you could copy it and migrate it to a new domain name without access to the registrar.
