BTW I did buy an OLED Steam Deck. They say 1-2 weeks of shipping but potentially delayed shipping due to demand. So yeah. Expect a Steam Deck OLED Battery Test eventually.
Finally someone covers this... For some reason most channels don't seem to consider battery life a factor in a HANDHELD and just rave about how much power the LLG has...
The Rog Ally is not at 10W... when disconnect the cable you can see the advertisement of "Performance" = 15W... On the Rog Ally you need to set the power when is plugged in and unplugged.
The Legion Go was also most likely running at 15W as it currently doesn't have a 10W mode lol. So probably only the Steam Deck was running at 10W for this entire test.
Either your Ally battery has not 100% capacity or you messed up something in the TDP during the test, cause the difference with the Legion Go should be smaller than that, especially at 10W. You should use custom mode when running these tests, not the balance and silent presets, since they don't use a fixed TDP and often go higher
As far as I know for the Legion Go's mysterious performance is probably because it's not using STAMP mode (the thing that lets the ROG Ally and Steam Deck lock their TDP). Legion Go uses some sort of AI chip that controls all the power to try to get the best blend of performance, heat, and battery life. The upcoming BIOS updates has the option to turn it off but it's why you can't actually set custom TDPs at the moment. I don't actually know what you are using in the video because the only presets that work are 8, 15, and 20W for the Legion GO (Via their 3 presets, not the custom slider) atm unless you've installed the beta bios and messed with that already. Setting any custom TDP using the slider will usually just result in 30W (a currently unstable 30W until a later update) and Im guessing by these tests it wasn't using the 30W mode or it would have been destroyed battery-wise. So I guess that's a long-winded way of saying you were probably actually running in one of 8W, 15W, or 30W. Not sure which but my guess if 15W I guess based off the results where it just barely beat the Steam Deck for the most part.
The battery capacity is also an important factor since your Ally and Steam Deck has been through many charging cycles while the Go is fairly new and at its max battery capacity. The better way is to test on a brand new ally and sd. But again this comparison is great and should be mostly accurate
Interesting results, a few questions: 1. What did you use to reduce the Legion Go to 15W constant? I assume you put it in custom mode, then overrided the TDP, since it is broken below 20W TDP? 2. The ALLY's silent profile, can boost up to 17W TDP and it will only go below 14W occasionally, unless you overrode it static, that is likely the issue with it's battery life there. 3. I think the initial video test with the steam deck should be re-run, seems like a battery report fluke. All in all, I am left more confused than before I watched your video, about the Go, haha. Lenovo's firmware tweaks continue to be a mystery.
I used the presets and hoped for the best. I guess that isn't quite apples to apples in the end huh.

I kinda agree and I kinda dont. To the average joe who will only change the TDP using those presets this IS the real test. No one has the time(or patience) to fiddle with the TDP all the time
@ yeah that’s fair. There is definitely different objective ways to look at it. Ultimately still leaves me confused though as to what the source of the battery drain is, but I understand the need for “real world” test
seeing the steamdeck die first before the leagion go is kinda odd. maybe your battery is already worn out? you should do this test with an OLED steamdeck
Airflow is fine in that position since the handheld isn't technical flat on the table. It's raised off of the ground a bit due to its controller so no vents were blocked. If the device was overheating the system would throttle and it showed no signs of that.
Did you check if hardware encoding/decoding works on the deck? Im not 100% certain but I remember that there was some patent issues that forced certain hardware codecs to be disabled in mesa drivers. I which case the extra power consumption would be attributed to it being forced to use the cpu to render video vs gpu
How the hell your Legion can last so long? 10W game with full screen brightness running on Windows from 49Wh battery runs for four hours? That means your OS, Screen, controllers and everything else drains only about 2,5Wh per hour? Whats the sorcerery behind that ? :D I have brand new Legion with debloated clean install of Windows, everything turned off, my screen at minimum brightness and 10W mode with 800p/60hz locked on 38fps and still I cant go above 2,5hours
I hate how you say the higher resolution and higher refresh rate is a consequence. Its more an option. Like how you can run the device at 30 watts. You don't also consider that a consequence. I would get a better apples to apples comparison running them at the same resolution and same refresh rate to see is one battery actually better or is it just because you have extra farkles activated that the other doesn't have.
Battery life on Lenovo legion go is awful really struggling having to charge it every 2 hours ! Also I can only charge it with the charger supplied. Despite having a 99w battery pack it doesn't charge and neither does a standard wall charger with USB C ! That makes it even worse as I can't charge on the go with a battery pack!
@projecttrukYep ! The charger is 65w and I have a 99w battery pack. So should be more than enough but it doesn't work 😔. So it's a handheld u can only get 2 hours of handheld out of it before needing to charge with the main charger. Even my Samsung phone charger won't work on it. Not trying to put anyone off because it's an incredible handheld console. But the battery is painful
@@Tapping90 Call customer support? That sounds like a faulty product, every single video i've watched and every thread i've read didn't have any complaints about not being able to use a powerbank. Heck, there's even videos on youtube that recommend specific powerbanks for the lenovo legion go.

This is what I called the GOAT battery test. Good job

Finally found video the real battery test battle. Thanks for ur info dude
I have a legion go and i couldn't be happier with it, watching this shows i definitely made the right choice, great video man!
Same bra
I couldn’t of said it better, Rock on! I can’t wait to get mines for Christmas !😊
Love the tests you've done, can't wait for Steam Deck OLED to drop in the mix 😂Hopefully Valve hooks you up.

I think I’m in love lol Lenovo legion go ❤
I think the problem with the first test was the fact it was in desktop mode. Sometimes the fan just ramps up for no reason

Interesting battle.. So the AAA games would much better on Legion Go with lowest setting which is similar look as Steamdeck mode
Legion Gooooo

Legion go is my favorite handheld right now I love this thing
Legion ❤
this is gonna get interesting with the steam deck oled...
Very good video
Can you make another video testing emulators like yuzu, ps2, ps3, etc?

Seems fair besides doing the undervolt on sd. I feel if you untervolt steamdeck you should untervolt everything else.
I would love to undervolt the other stuff id need to figure out a decent method to do so and test for decent undervolts.
So its again max Brightness and Sound like the first Vid? Sorry but Cant find info on that :-D
AH yes
bro can you do a benchmark of gaming @ 15W TPD only for SD Oled VS Legion go please? I cannot find any video everywhere
I have a video on my channel for this exact scenario
seeing the steamdeck die first before the leagion go is kinda odd. maybe your battery is already worn out?
you should do this test with an OLED steamdeck
This video is old and I've already done an OLED test months ago on my channel.
Steam deck OLED is going to destroy in this test from what ive seen from other channels.
And hopefully you'll stick around when I also do this same battery test with an OLED Deck thrown in the mix!
Can anyone confirm the accuracy of this test?
Hmmm is the position of rog ally also causing it overheat faster? Hence more battery consumption? Since the airflow is very limited in that position?
Airflow is fine in that position since the handheld isn't technical flat on the table.
It's raised off of the ground a bit due to its controller so no vents were blocked.

Nothing changed from the last time I did the test on the Deck's end other than the undervolt.
@@HiTechLoLife Fair enough. It would be nice if you could tell us the codecs for your rip as reference though.
If I have the time I'll add it to the description

If u turn off cpu boost the ally lasts about as long as the legion go the cpu boast kills the battery quick
Stop coping everywhere brother
You sound like Beavis. Or Butthead. I forget which is which.lol
Im shocked... legion go have big potent..
how 40 hours battery , setting to 10 watt , ally just little bit over a hour , troll other kewl , bullshit

This is false. Its your USBC cord that is bottle necking and not allowing it to charge. Mine charges ofbs battery pack perfectly.@@Tapping90
