Soooooo, my facebook and instagram posts always, almost always, have the hashtag #arteverysingleday. I have been very consistent for more than four years now because I have permission from myself to count doodles as art, to spend only five minutes, to do something easy, to play around with supplies, and to work for days on one piece a little at a time. I do keep art supplies within easy reach. I also am gentle with myself if I (rarely) need to skip. Making that my hashtag and my practice has helped me to reclaim my identity as an artist. It tells other people my priority. It helps me remember to make art. My 1% now is working on figures. It is so so important that we don’t beat ourselves up and only see what we *didn’t* do.
I love your point that we so often focus on the expectations we don't meet rather than all the good that come from having an expectation in the first place. Thanks for sharing the nuances in your practice around what "counts" for your art time; I think this kind of reflection and understand is so important to helping us show up for ourselves.
my goodness! i sorely needed this guidance. talk about when the Universe is being kind to us. i am overwhelmed with a huge sense of failure a colossal imposter syndrome and of having wasted my life ( i am now 60 btw) and not done anything with this gift of creativity. Thank you for lifting this huge rock of guilt and helping me breathe. i have thus far worked for 42 years, raised 3 children, moved three times. Thank you and Bless you for being a voice of reason and calm.
Sounds like your life has been full in many ways, definitely not wasted. I hope that guilt stays away and that you see you have plenty of time now to embrace your creative interests
What a refreshing wonderful channel you have. Your ideas are really liberating and I really enjoyed listening. I have a home studio, as an artist and a professional dressmaker. Have been a dressmaker all my working life and now and transitioning over to making my art the professional focus, 😵💫😂 …. Some wonderful food for thought, thank you 🙏🌸
My minimal goal is not per day, but per year. And per year it is simply to beat my previous record. This time it is 36 pieces or more, and that includes every sketch but also bigger complex pieces I work on for months and even years (yes, I have those, too).
Thanks for this encouraging and practical content. This is such a good point, every little minute counts. I have found that it REALLY helps to have everything prepared and ready to go so that a free minute can be used to its full potential. My pouch with sketchbook and pens often goes with me so that if I end up idly waiting somewhere, I can get a quick sketch in, or colour all the red parts or whatever (batching!). IMO, every type of work that's part of the larger process also counts as "doing art" - saving inspiration images online, watching tutorials, etc. Anything that keeps your brain on track and helps get the physical work done. And that quote is spot on - 1% can get underestimated, but once you're actually doing it, the snowball effect can be surprising!
I love you having stuff ready to make art at a moment's notice, including your sketchbook and pens you take with you. And totally agree the whole process IS art. It's truly making a difference in my life and helps me overcome perfectionist ideas that would otherwise tell me "why bother?"

Thank you for this great tip.
@@SuperExadidas I Hope it helps!
I sketche when I talk to customers on the phone. The best ideas have come to me that way, I take a photo of the sketches and continue at home.
That's awesome I love it!
Don't make daily goals to make art I follow my desire to do what ever I feel
