if you're a fan of Exile, this and Coney Island, also look up weird goodbyes! All this collaborating between the national/bon iver/Taylor was started by the same guy Aaron(?) dessner who's mainly in The National but played on tour with Justin and Taylor separately and introduced everyone :) we owe that man everything for these collabs!

I discovered the National in 2010 and absolutely became obsessed with them. Been to 6 live shows, touched Matt at three of them, and consider myself a HUGE fan. Up until 2020 I never would have imagined they would ever cross paths with Taylor Swift, I honestly was not a fan of hers. The best thing to come out of COVID and lockdown, was these two artists somehow making their way to each other and creating such amazing music, mostly with Aaron but you catch my drift, I absolutely love it. I tell my wife all of the time that she has the voice of an angel.
Is this the love child of Peace & Coney Island? I love it!!! The National are one of the best bands out there and the collaborations with Taylor, the queen and the music industry, are just superb. What a time to be alive and to hear these masterpieces!
One of the most beautiful modern day duets, that's pure genius by the National, @taylorswift and @aarondessner! The way Taylor manages to weave back and forth first harmony, then back up, then the dueling, ultimately fueling a goosebumps crescendo is nothing short of genius because most duets have solo and Co sections, the singing and narrative doesn't weave back and forth as much. For a sad that's heart melting and uplifting at the same time - hats off! I've been hearing on repeat for hours, it's so energizing!
I really get why Taylor likes this band and this guy's voice so much. I liked it the first listen, but it gets even better every time. Subtle, yet impactful.
Yes!! Evermore actually features the National on "Coney Island" it's SO GOOD!! If you like this song you should definitely give it a shot. The whole entire album is so good 🧡
@Sarah Gee evermore is my favourite album from Taylor Swift, followed by folklore. That's when she really grew and showed her capabilites as a songwritter and singer in different genres.
Wow, this is a lyrical masterpiece. Hands down one of the best TS collabs and her finest writing. I mean... 'Everything's that's mine is a landmine' just got me emotional and by the end of the song I found myself SOBBING
**Thought I should add that I'm aware that Matt wrote the majority of the song other than Taylors parts, I just mean it sounds like something that would come from her head and heart 💔
You do understand her writing contribution on this song is minimal, right? She's the third co-writer in listing. She contributed probably a majority of the lines she sung or maybe not even that.
@iKazed, yes from interviews with the band, I believe I understand that Matt wrote the song, they sent it off to Taylor, and a few hours later she sent it back with her sections written. I feel pretty sure she wrote all the lines she sings solo, mostly because they contrast so strongly to the way Matt writes. I relate to his lyrics because they are heavily about spending decades with one person, and the pervasive sense of personal failure that comes from trying to be something that you can’t pull off, and failing over and over. Taylor’s lyrics contrast for me because they are more oriented toward a relationship falling apart and ending...”give me some tips to forget you” being the most obvious. Even when Matt is singing about endings, it’s different after decades. “There’ll come a time I want to know I was here.” But on the other matter of credit, yes. I understand fans who absolutely love Taylor, but I always hope they will acknowledge the people she collaborates with too, because the world is full of great musicians to discover. (I came to Folklore and Evermore via Aaron.) There were lots of Taylor fans saying “thanks for turning me on to Big Red Machine,” and I thought that was great. I was less comfortable with the reactions I read to the “featuring TS” version of Gasoline by Haim. I was hoping that the comments would suggest that TS fans noticed Haim, and I from what I read, I wasn’t sure if they did. And since that was an alternate mix, there really wasn’t any way you could like that song and not have it mean you liked Haim’s work.
@@jimwilliams3816 totally! I fully appreciate both TS and The National;l. In fact, I grew to love the band when they collaborated with her on her evermore album. And I'm fully aware that she wrote probably only her lines in the song - and I just pointed out how beautiful and how Swift-ish they sounded but Matt's writing on this one is also phenomenal. I didn't mean to offend anyone and I didn't mean to point out that she wrote the whole song. It's 100% kudos to the National, but Taylor's parts are also so good.
"Everything that's mine is a landline" this line in particular is simple and twisted it reminds me of something that's never happened in my life. Very impressive writing.
I'm not having a break up or something like that. But this song really puts me down and makes me remember when I was begging my ex to don't break up with me. I know, it was toxic and I was stupid. But this is how you learn. I remember I said to him "give me some tips to forget you". That's why that part hits me a lot
This is honestly one of the most breathtaking and pure things I have ever heard. Superior lyrics and layering!! Taylor And the national Have made a legend in this song right here
INSTANT classic. I rarely enjoy duets, so for me to say that this is now one of my all time favorite songs is saying a lot. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece of art with me ❤
Broke down crying when Taylor sang - Cause I love this curse on our house!!! Oh this continues the Coney Island story for me!! Taylor's vocals are haunting - it is a haunting melody, sliding in your thoughts that makes you feel broken yet complete somehow. Beautiful beautiful. Matt's and Taylor's voices fir together like they were TAYlored to be ❤
@@mayzcorn27 I didn't want to write it but you said it!!!! I am not even aware of the timeline, but it hits home. Also considering it revolves around Matt and his wife but at the same time, definitely reminds of the Lover house - especially the way she sings
Massive massive fan of the National have loved them for years. They always speak right to my heart. I always thought I was too cool to like Taylor Swift until I listen to her new album and the reason is is because I heard a song that was great but I knew it was produced by one of the Nationals. You cant deny this is a fabulous song. . See you guys next time you play Boston, MA✌🍀🤓💃
I love the call-and-response sound of the song and how bittersweet the arrangement of their voices sounds together. Reminds me of exile in a beautiful way.
Coney Island is one of my favorite songs like ever ... This is just what my soul needs. If The National and Taylor had an album it would be too much for this world. ✨❤️
Love and abet, is lyric that gets me. Through my dad's recovery from alcoholism and my later therapy for depression, anxiety, and PTSD, I've learned a lot about codependency and that's what Taylor is referencing in here. Really key to song IMHO, two people who know they are bad for each other yet keep cycle of reconnecting and breaking up.
Fucking stunning. I love their voices together. Just like with Bon Iver, their deep registers go with her light and almost angelic tone of voice so perfectly. 😍
I can’t remember the last time a song has hit me this hard. It’s truly a masterpiece as merely a work of art. The words is heartbreakingly beautiful and the twist from … “the last thing I wanted” to …”the last thing I wanted” is as mind blowing as any manuscript movie plot I’ve ever seen. I’m a huge fan of TN and Matt’s deep captivating sincere and heartfelt voice, always have always will be. Having said that this collab couldn’t be better. TS is angelic throughout and their storytelling reach climax when TS begins to echo “answering” Matt’s chorus lines. TS humming and harmonies are stunning. This is one of those few songs that I can honestly say will stay in me forever. A go to song to enjoy, admire and embrace whenever in need for the state of serenity only music can give me. I cried the first time I head it and now having heard it +50 times it’s the same. The feeling of this amazing duet is so immensely beautiful 🦋 that the only thing I can think of to compare it to would be the fraigile whispering sound of butterfly wings passing you on a spring morning while walking barefoot in the mist grass on a medow, sensing the due in your breath as taking the blessing of life all in. Conclusion: I’m in awe of just how good and perfect a song this is 🙏🏻 TYSM
OMG! Taylor just NAILED IT AGAIN! Gorgeous vocals, beautiful, sad song but the way the talk to each other is AMAZE! I love this collab! With Aaron on the piano. WE ALL LOVE YOU SO JUCH TAYLOR & The National!🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️💗💗💗💗💗💗💙💙💙💙❣️❣️❣️
Carpetbagger here...I only started listening to Taylor because my young swiftie daughters had her on high rotation during car rides. My first albums were Folklore/Evermore, which is how I discovered The National, which then brought me here - and how I was rewarded with this song!
I'm a newer Swiftie (October 2023), finally making my way through the collabs. Coney Island is my favourite Taytay song so i had high expectations for this. And omg it did not disappoint, so beautiful ❤
This song is so slept on. It's such a beautifully written and composed work of art. Aaron is so so talented. Taylors back vocals just set it off. So good. Omg. ❤
If you wouldve told me Taylor would get into the indie/indie rock sound since 2020 and is still going strong in that sound in 2023 back in like lover era, I wouldn’t have believe you fr. Blondie can do anything and I feel this is what she excels at fr
I'd love for her to return to folklore/evermore era once again. If not for a full album, then at least a couple of songs on the new album whenever she puts it out. I feel like folklore/evermore established her as an innovative, powerful singer and songwritter who doesn't excel only at commercially successful, catchy pop songs.
@@realisticguy569 as long as Taylor keep working together with Aaron, im sure she will creat one or two folklorian vibes song in her future new album. Midnight has one, The Great War
@Agnar Juan Janitra I love the Great War song so so much, but I find folklore-evermore vibes more in Sweet Nothing, Labyrinth, and Dear Reader when it comes to Midnights album.
I think their more recent albums are far better eg "I am easy to find" , "Trouble will find me " also from an earlier period "High Violet " , and " Boxer" But all their albums and EP's are worth listening to .
I love how their collabs are always them singing at the same time instead of having their own individual time. It not only sounds heavenly, but tells a story.
I know *of* The National, I have always meant to listen to them as I know their fanbase absolutely loves them but like so many things I just hadn't got around to it yet. I saw the news of this song when I woke up last Saturday morning and listened to it immediately and...my god this song is beautiful. I still need to make the time to listen to the catalog, but it went from a vague want to a definite priority. I love the gentle complexity of the music and Matt's voice is so laden with emotion it tears me apart in the most beautiful ways that only music can. Well done, everyone involved. Thank you for this.
so i think that Alcott is a bar and this song discribes a conersation between a couple! i think ``hits different`` tells the story to what happened to her after their conversation/ break up in the bar. this song is emotional and it becomes even more touching when u hear hits different

I really get why Taylor likes this band and this guy's voice so much. I liked it the first listen, but it gets even better every time. Subtle, yet impactful.
That happens pretty much all the time with The National. They are masters of the subtle slow-burn
Petition for The National and Taylor to make more songs like these because it’s pure brilliance!🤍💞🤍
I would never would have put them together but they are genuinely a magnificent combination - they complement each other perfectly
The touch up of Taylor’s backing vocals in this is Insane.. I just love this!
Thanks to The National I started to admire Taylor because they promoted folklore during the pandemic. I love both of them so much now
Taylor wrote another album''Evermore with Aaron, that album is just as great as Folklore
Yes!! Evermore actually features the National on "Coney Island" it's SO GOOD!! If you like this song you should definitely give it a shot. The whole entire album is so good 🧡
And I found The National when I fell in love with folklore🥹 (I had never paid attn to her music before that album).
@@sarahgee9686i LOVE coney island sm 😭 it’s one of my favourite songs on evermore
@Sarah Gee evermore is my favourite album from Taylor Swift, followed by folklore. That's when she really grew and showed her capabilites as a songwritter and singer in different genres.
The new girl singer is pretty good. I hope The National keep her on.
😂
Wait- You're being serious?

NEW GIRL SINGER LMFAOOOO
what if this is the vibe of the tortured poets department...
OMG YES PLEASEEEE
it wasnt 😭😭
taylor is too self-indulgent to go back to this kind of style.
It was, I see this one fitting into the Anthology perfectly
It really is! Too many people are passing over this song it's criminal @@f4nnt4stic
The lyrics are absolutely beautiful. Wow. I am so proud of this collaboration! God Bless you all.
the way their voices complement each other so well is incredible! this song is for the exile stans, the coney island girlies, the evermore stans!
Wow, this is a lyrical masterpiece. Hands down one of the best TS collabs and her finest writing. I mean... 'Everything's that's mine is a landmine' just got me emotional and by the end of the song I found myself SOBBING
The exact same part got me too and I was also crying by the end of it 😅 I feel like this has come from her head and heart too 💔
**Thought I should add that I'm aware that Matt wrote the majority of the song other than Taylors parts, I just mean it sounds like something that would come from her head and heart 💔
“There’ll come a time I want to know I was here.”
But on the other matter of credit, yes. I understand fans who absolutely love Taylor, but I always hope they will acknowledge the people she collaborates with too, because the world is full of great musicians to discover. (I came to Folklore and Evermore via Aaron.)
There were lots of Taylor fans saying “thanks for turning me on to Big Red Machine,” and I thought that was great.
“Everything that’s mine is a landmine.” My heart stopped
"Everything that's mine is a landline" this line in particular is simple and twisted it reminds me of something that's never happened in my life. Very impressive writing.
This is an absolute masterpiece. So beautiful, their voices together, exquisite.
Every collab they've done is a masterpiece?? 😭
So this is what perfection sounds like?? It’s just so heartbreakingly peaceful. Like Coney Island and Evermore had a musical love child.
Taylor And the national Have made a legend in this song right here
Please never stop making music together ♥️
This 🙏🤞🫶
My day was terrible, and listening to this collaboration significantly brightened it up. Thank you for such tremendous art
INSTANT classic. I rarely enjoy duets, so for me to say that this is now one of my all time favorite songs is saying a lot. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece of art with me ❤
When they sing together, it creates an experience beyond just listening, it’s a full religious experience
This genre of songs in which Taylor and other artist talk in a back and forth expresing all their anxiety and questions is my favorite one
I JUST KNOW THAT THIS SONG WILL BE SO INCREDIBLE
Broke down crying when Taylor sang - Cause I love this curse on our house!!! Oh this continues the Coney Island story for me!! Taylor's vocals are haunting - it is a haunting melody, sliding in your thoughts that makes you feel broken yet complete somehow. Beautiful beautiful. Matt's and Taylor's voices fir together like they were TAYlored to be ❤
It does feel like a line for the Lover house doesn't it?
@@mayzcorn27 I didn't want to write it but you said it!!!! I am not even aware of the timeline, but it hits home. Also considering it revolves around Matt and his wife but at the same time, definitely reminds of the Lover house - especially the way she sings
Perfectly said! ❤
I actually thought about Ivy and the line "my house of stone you're ivy grows"
I tell you my problems
Have I become one of your problems?
Such a beautiful parallel, Taylor and The National together always kill it together
If there were a third folk album after Midnights i would be thrilled to listen to it!
I haven't stop listening to it for the past hour and it gets better with every listen
This is perfect! Their voices blend in really well omg
This song just hits you in the heart strings. The Nationals + Taylor Swift = Masterpiece 😊
matt&taylor‘s voice is so harmonious 🖤🖤🖤this song’s such a beautiful masterpiece
the national with taylor never disappoints
🥺🥺💝🙏
Their voices just blend so well❤
🥺🥺🙏💝
Love and abet, is lyric that gets me. Through my dad's recovery from alcoholism and my later therapy for depression, anxiety, and PTSD, I've learned a lot about codependency and that's what Taylor is referencing in here. Really key to song IMHO, two people who know they are bad for each other yet keep cycle of reconnecting and breaking up.
They should make an entire album together. Their voices blend so well.
I'm so excited about this album!!, it hasn't been a good few days and it's really saving me from having an emotional breakdown
Sending love to you!
Sending you lots of love and light ✨
taylor’s backing vocals are so calming 😭
This is absolutely beautiful

I think this is a collab that back in time we would never imagine from Taylor, but they totally nailed it! Love it❤
Its the best collab since she did Stinkfist
this is so good omg 😭 the way their voices blend in with each others oh my gosh 🫶🏾🫶🏾 i love them
Carpetbagger here...I only started listening to Taylor because my young swiftie daughters had her on high rotation during car rides. My first albums were Folklore/Evermore, which is how I discovered The National, which then brought me here - and how I was rewarded with this song!
I did that in reverse. Big National fan, and had literally never heard a TS song until I saw Aaron post about his involvement with Folklore.
I'm a newer Swiftie (October 2023), finally making my way through the collabs. Coney Island is my favourite Taytay song so i had high expectations for this. And omg it did not disappoint, so beautiful ❤
Ahh we became swifties around the same timee!!

This song is so slept on. It's such a beautifully written and composed work of art. Aaron is so so talented. Taylors back vocals just set it off. So good. Omg. ❤
This song is soooo underated why is this masterpiece in the vault of all her songs when it’s like SO on top ✨
This song is the Nationals but I agree Taylor's best songs are never made singles. It's been this way since the beginning.
This song broke me. The vocals are insane together and I'm crying its beautiful.
Every time taylor does a song with the national,,I'm in folklore and evermore era.
I love this song. Not really a Taylor fan. Heard it on the radio and fell in love. Both voices complement each other so well. Great lyrics
“give me some tips to forget you” still not over this line
Gave me chills. Their voices together are indescribably beautiful. Back to the woods
This is so beautiful. Very happy to be alive and got to witness this masterpiece.
im literally crying, i need a full the national x taylor swift collab album
I have listened to this entire album and am now a fan of the National. How have I missed this group? Soooooo good.
you're gonna love their old catalogue/albums. try Boxer, High Violet.
Someone explain to me why I'm crying with this masterpiece
My explanation would be the last thing you'd want.....
You need a hug, we all need a hug after this song
🥺🥺💝
Because it hurts in a new way...
"I love this curse on our house" 🥺😭 Chills
Singing it while sitting is just incredible! Harmonizing and blending the chorus is just holy wow like high five!
Oh wow... Sitting at work listening to this and I have to hold back my tears!!! What a song!!!!❤❤❤
Immediately knew this was going to be as amazing as the first collab. Taylor and The National fit so well.
Lyrically this is gold. The best collab I’ve seen in so many years
They need to do a collaboration album!!
It sounds so beautiful, so smooth, and comforting but heartbreaking at the same time. This is genius.
so i think that Alcott is a bar and this song discribes a conersation between a couple! i think ``hits different`` tells the story to what happened to her after their conversation/ break up in the bar. this song is emotional and it becomes even more touching when u hear hits different
