I must be old, hay bales were 60lb rectangular bales. Stack them in the back of a pickup as high as you’d dare, run home, unload them and back to the fields for more. You’d see field mice running for their lives, being chased by owls and 6ft black racers. A lot of hard work, but it was fun.
Same here , I am 71, and Daddy choped his pickup down, and made a flat bed out of it., my youngest sister was too small to lift the hay, so Daddy had her drive the pickup, He walked along side the hay, and threw it in the bed, my sister, and I stacked it. This is how we helped make money in the summer. I don't think I like those big round bails.

I do enjoy different kinds of equipment in operation. You and Dusty have a good relationship . Those fields are really pretty. Good idea get some use out of the fields and lets them stay fields .
Just a little heads up. When you are storing your bales outside, keep a foot or so space between them and it will allow the rain/snow to come off of them easier and you won't have as much rot on your bales.

There is a hay field across the road from us. Drives my allergies crazy when they cut and bale. Worth the runny nose and sneezes when I look out on the field with all the bales - so peaceful. Love the smell of fresh cut alfalpha.

Hey Daniel. I was thinking of a business that Emily and Houston can make free money. You talk about how the trees take over your fields. Let them put pecan tree limbs and oak limbs put them in 10 gal pale and grow them. Then sell them after about 1 year tall. $$$ Free extra money for them.

Growing up 50 years ago we had rectangular bales about 90 to120 lbs stack 49bales on the pickup. Got played 2cents a bale to get it in the barn. Good money for a teenager in the 60's and 70's. Specially if you got 6 or 700 bales in a day or less. God bless you and your's!
How cool it was to have my granddaughter who’s 8 years old spend the weekend with us. And we were talking about utube videos and she said she watched cross timbers bison. I said whattt me too. So I said I also watch Arms Family Homestead. She said me too!! I just thought how cool is this, she said she really liked Houston And I just laughed. I said which one do you like the most Houston or Emily , she said Houston because he was on more videos. We spent The Whole evening watching videos together. She said she wanted the Bear t- shirt sooo you know papa bought her one. Thank you Daniel for you and your family for what y’all do. Just thought you might like to here this story. Not too old. Round balers are relatively new. Used to handle rectangular ones of 50 to 75 lbs.
I started when I was 10 or 11 driving the truck & trailer while my dad and a hired hand loaded the bales.
Grandpa made the bales smaller when my sister and I did the stacking on the trailers.

If you went in and fertilize it fertilized it in April you have a lot more hay it gives a good spunk to grow faster

The people that we help bale have use a mower that is self propelled and a rake and roundbailer combo
