      Clarence DeBerry Lots of potential hidden in those Z31 cars, they are great all around daily drivers too.

    I used the Gabriel Ultra's on all four wheels on my 88,300zx and was very happy with the results. Nice firm ride without being harsh. Also in my price range.

    Thank you so much for this video. I have an 84 turbo; and it looks like it has the OEM shocks, every grocery store speedbump is quite bumpy, i plan to replace it soon. I was scared that this would be a hard job, but I didn't know the rears easier than the fronts so i'll at least change the rears, THANK YOU!

      himynameissonny Yes it is night and day between front and rear suspension. Front requires a lot of patience and very strong spring compressors to ensure all the spring tension is completely relieved before removing the top tower nut and switching strut cartridges. Not an easy task but can be done effectively by just taking your time and doing it correct and safe. Thank you for watching.

    Haha thanks for the informative video! I used this when I just changed the rear shocks on my 1986 300zx turbo and let me tell you, because of the rust I had a bitch of a time getting those shocks out. The pinch bolts at the bottom were completely rusted through so I couldn't pull them out like you did. Ended up spending 6 hours sawing through both sides of the pinch bolts on both of them with a crappy hacksaw. I need better tools haha. The car rides great now, before both shocks were completely blown.

      KC Networks I know the feeling, rusted on stuff, quite the pain. I usually soak all associated hardware a few times with liquid wrench or PB blaster to work into the rusted parts which does help but it is no way shape or form easy...

    Is using the 2nd jack to lower the shock required or just make the job a little easier?
    Thx for the nicely done video. It was a pleasure to watch and very relaxed...OH if only my work was done with such ease and confidence :)

    • @budgetboosting
      @budgetboosting  8 лет назад +2

      +144Donn I needed to use the second jack so I can hold the pressure on the shock and spring while removing hardware than slowly lower it down gradually so nothing just slams down from spring pressure.

    Wouldn't it be easier to use a ratcheting box wrench for the top bolt? I plan on using one when I do mine.

    those were some nice Bilstein's, were they really shot?
    Nice vids, real handy to watch them before doing it yourself.
    thx, keep them coming!

      vishS14 The rear bilsteins were real bad, front ones were not bad. I had some problems with the local parts store not getting the parts right for the front struts. They would either get me a strut cartridge that has the wrong retaining nut too small or a strut with strut tube diameter being too small. I eventually got tired of the store mistakes and reinstalled the bilsteins for the front because I found another issue why it was making really bad noise on bumps. The last person that worked on that strut assembly left the retaining nut loose so the strut made noises due to not being retained correctly. I wanted to show everyone how to install these strut cartridges despite the stores not giving me the right parts so I reinstalled the bilsteins for just the front.

      +Billy strunk I did a video showing the changing of difficult spark plugs and the 300zx was the star of the show. Let me know what videos you would like to see of the Z31.

      @budgetboosting  9 лет назад

      Hayden McCain yes, the suspension on these cars gets a good workout so replacement every few years or so is about right. Thank you for watching.

    Thank you for this video! I will replace my 86 z31 rear shocks in the future and this is a really good look at what it takes. I would like my z to be higher off the ground because I have kind of a hard time getting in and out because its so low and was wondering if you have any advice for that?

  • @fogel76
    @fogel76 7 лет назад +2

    Should i replace springs as well when i replace front struts and rear shocks? I can only find lowering springs for sale online.

    • @budgetboosting
      @budgetboosting  6 лет назад +1

      Doing just the struts/shocks is fine. Springs are usually good for decades long after the rest of the car has died.

    Wich kit you have buy for rear suspension ? I search for the rear top plate … but is a nightmare to search , do you have solution ?

    • @budgetboosting

      I would recomend stance full coilover conversion kit, top of the line for the Z31. I bought mine for $1500 and it was well worth it for the mountain road performance alone.

    Hey my man, I have an issue with lean to passenger side. I think my springs are not set right. Just did shocks and pulled and painted springs. I marked the yellow dot but not sure where that dot goes as to the inner our outer of wheel well or from or back. Any way you can help with this?

    what if you have electrical dampening in car

    • @budgetboosting
      @budgetboosting  8 лет назад +2

      +assklk123 then struts that have the electrical dampening would have to be purchased. They are fairly hard to find these days for this car.
