    About Us:
    We are an American family of 3 who moved to France for an extended stay adventure in 2022.
    We wanted to experience Europe as more than rushed tourists on a 10 day vacation. To dive into the culture, learn a new language, experience daily life, and truly know what it was like to work and live somewhere other than the US.
    In France, we set up a business, enrolled in a middle school, found housing and even got our cat a European passport!
    While in the US preparing to leave, the information we found about staying in France for longer than a short vacation was directed at college students, young & single digital nomads or retirees. Where was the useful information for families like us?
    With a year under our belts in France, we created Baguette Bound to pass on what we have learned. We hope to make it easier and inspire other families who are interested in experiencing a long stay in France with their families. Stay tuned for more information on French culture, local travel ideas, and the logistics of moving across the world.

    Welcome to our beautiful country. As close friends and allies, both our nations have signed many bilateral treaties and arrangements to facilitate the movement of our citizens. I am sure that you guys enjoy our way of life, food, culture, nature. etc... I can't wait to see an entire video in French by your lovely daughter. Her progress so far is spectacular !! A bientôt les amis

    Enjoying the videos. Why did you choose the region or area that you are currently living in? Did you look for specific things to help you decide on your current location? Will you be covering this in a separate video? Thanks.

      Hi, great question, thank you for watching! We used specific criteria to help us narrow the search. Stay tuned for our upcoming video where we explore our approach and share what we learned about choosing a place in France.

    Minor thing: Alliance Francaise may receive some money from the French government, but it is not a government entity (it's private).
    Enjoying these videos. I'm French and have been living in the US for 32 years. Recently retired, my American husband and I are contemplating options on where to move to next and France is high on the list. Looking forward to hearing more about your experiences here (I'm currently in Brive). Cheers (or should I say "sante" 🙂 )

      Yes! Thank you for noting this about Alliance Française, I'm going to add that as a correction to the description. We just learned that they were individually managed a couple weeks ago and I had forgotten we mention being connected to the French government in this video.
      I'm so curious as a French person if there's anything you anticipate you'll miss from the US leaving? What do you most look forward yo coming back to in France? Good luck and thanks for watching!

      @@BaguetteBound Many things for sure! I don't think we ever fully leave the places we've been too. Something stays within us whether we realize it or not. But just off the top of my head: I like how free to be people are in the US. Businesses open on Sundays. National Parks. Easy conversations with strangers. The fact that people are happy for you when you succeed. Things I won't miss: unequal and expensive healthcare; too much uniformity in architecture, restaurants, foods; money governing every aspect of life. All in all, I will never be fully French again, nor will I ever be entirely American. But I wouldn't want it any other way.😀

      @martine2u this is such a wonderful and relatable comparison of the two cultures. Thank you.

    My wife and I are approaching retirement and we're looking for a retirement destination. Portugal was high on our list but with the cancelling of the NHR it doesn't look financially practical at this point. We're middle class and don't have a ton of money but we do have our Social security, pension plus our 403Bs. Which is a government 401K. We don't want snow and we'd like to be within a half hour of the beach. Suggestions? BTW love your channel.

      On the Mediterranean coast, I would look from Montpellier to Perpignan...closer to Spain it's less expensive than the famous Côte d'Azur, but still the Med and beautiful!
      On the Atlantic coast, from Bayonne (south) to Areachon Bay area there are nice beach towns for surfing, they vary a lot in cost.
      Going much further north than that on the Atlantic you still won't get much snow, but a LOT of cold rainy days.
      If possible, I would narrow it down to one of those regions and come for a long road trip to check out specific towns along the way.
      Good luck! Thanks for watching!!

      South-West France, south of the Loire, if you want to go surfing, south of Bordeaux.

    You mentioned in a prior video that you have rented a car. Did you get a French license or are you using an international license? Thanks for the video.

    • @BaguetteBound
      @BaguetteBound  9 месяцев назад +2

      We did get a French license, but your US license is valid to drive in France for one year. You do need an international license to rent a car at the grocery store we mentioned. This is really just a translation of your US license, and you can get one for around $20 at AAA. If you plan to stay in France for longer than a year, you'll need to get a French license.
      Several states have reciprocal agreements, and you can literally just "trade" your US license for a French one! But you MUST do it within the first year. It can take six months, so you need to start the process early. This article (as of Nov 2023) is very thorough and accurate on the process for Americans and FAQs. mafrenchlife.com/us-drivers-license-in-france/#:~:text=The%20following%20U.S.%20states%20have,%2C%20Colorado%2C%20Florida%20and%20Connecticut.

      You guys are really good at explaining things. I think your channel will blow up. You should make a video of French grocery stores. The celery is mutant size in France. 4 x American celery. When I stayed in Paris I loved how every week they had a new bag design. They are so chic. I’m in Dallas. I’m looking forward to more videos from you. Thanks.

      @CroisMoi Thanks for the kind words! Your celery comment made me laugh because I hadn't thought about it, but you're right! 😂 Produce in general is just so good here. But yes!! We definitely have plans for a grocery store tour video! And I agree, there are so many beautiful & chic things the French do and they don't even think about it. It's lovely. 😍
      Thanks for watching from Dallas - my hometown is Greenville!! 😉

    Nope. Third video I tried to watch and MUSIC IS LOUD AND DISTRACTING, esp trying to hear the gentleman. If you ever decide that your voices are enough (and the are), reply and let me know. I was SO interested in your content, but CANNOT HEAR WHAT YOU ARE SAYING!

      I just watched this video on my tv and music level was fine. However I saw your comment so I then watched on my phone and the music is definitely louder. Give the tv a try and see if that’s better. Have a great day!

      While I didn't find the music too loud, I agree that it was distracting and I thought it was completely unnecessary. And I also had trouble hearing Jason in all of the three videos I watched.

    • @BaguetteBound
      @BaguetteBound  9 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for that feedback, we appreciate it! As all the tech for recording / editing videos is new to us and a big learning curve it's great to know what's working and what's not for viewers. Lol, would you ever guess I'm naturally louder that Jason? 😂 We just ordered a new mike this week to improve this. Thanks for watching and commenting!
