So grateful for you sharing your story. My daughter has been chronically ill for 17years. Which lead to years of antibiotic treatment and really messed up her gut flora. Thankfully she is better after getting a prosthetic ear bone surgery but due to years of medication she is still experiencing severe eczema. I will keep you updated with her journey. 😊🙏
I use a vice to crack the shells and then I use side cutters to snap the shells open by nipping the edges. Usually I am able to get the nutmeat out in whole quarters! 😁
Thanks for sharing this. As a child my grandmother would slice the hill and tape a piece on my ringworm to kill it. Years and years later as an adult I’m suffering from ringworms all over my face and prescribed oral meds or the over the counter creams don’t seem to be working. I am now going back to this remedy that my grandmother did in hopes that it will do the job. I have collected so many black walnuts and look forward to making a tincture like yours to save for later purposes. Thank you!!
@@SheepHillHerbs perfect! How long would you recommend I use it ? Should I do it every two days until fully healed ? Or how often should I apply it to the ring worms?
I’ve never seen a recipe with all the water. Only alcohol. Most say to fill the jar (not quite full) with the husks (hulls) and pour at least 80 proof vodka to fill overtop the husks. When the tincture is ready and bottled, then you can add the tincture dose to a small glass of water to drink down. Thank you so much for your video. It’s nice and relaxing. Well done❣️
Quartering the hull with a sharp knife works better as does taking a mallet to pound it. Don’t hit it super hard, just hard enough to break the hull and peel it the rest of the way.
Well, I'm bit confused. I was born in Eastern Europe and we'd pick green walnut hulls in May. Are you saying that in USA it is usually picked at beginning of September? The way we use it, and it's been used like that for 100's of years in Eastern Europe, is like this, 40 green walnut hulls (they look much smaller then the ones in USA, I don't know the difference) cut in pieces and then you pour real honey over it and leave it in bright spot for 40 days. Honey would become dark. Then you just get rid of walnuts inside and put it in the fridge and it is eaten like one teaspoon in the morning. This thing is full of iodine, so people should exercise caution if they have hyperthyroid issues.
I do not know if the growing season is the same all across the USA...probably not. But where I live in Pennsylvania, Spring begins April/May..and Fall comes in September. So there are definitely no nuts, or hulls until late summer. I never made mine like that, but I think I may have to try the honey this year!☺️🐝🐝
Also I have one planted here on the Downs in Queensland Australia. It is Spring/October, very very dry and just budding. This will be a bad year in drought.
No, I do not really describe that on RUclips. You would need to consult with me for that. Good news is I do a very inexpensive special rate for my RUclips audience. $25 for a half hour. I can give specifics of amounts in a mini session.
Awesome channel!!! I recently discovered what the “green lemon looking things” were and that I have a black walnut tree in my backyard. With that said I saw a video on harvesting them which includes stepping on the hulls to get the walnuts out. I noticed you cut up the hull with a knife. Would using the “stomped on” hulls work? Be well!!
Hi! Cool- It's so great to realize a plant grows where you live. I use a knife to get the green hull off in a clean and nice way for tinctures. One year we collected hundreds of the hulls and we wanted to get the nuts inside. We let them break down in a section of grass, and did stomp off the hulls so we could get to the nut. Then we collected the inner nut and cleaned them really well. Then we let them dry on screen racks. Then we saved them and cracked them to eat. They are hard to crack! A LOT OF WORK! But, the most delicious walnut you've ever had.
Depends what you are using it for. If you have a bothersome skin spot, I would apply topically with a cotton ball. If you are using as part of a parasite cleanse, I would take the drops orally.
Can the antiparasitic compound be extraced in glycerine, and would you have a process for a non-alcohol version of the black walnut tincture? Thank you. 😊
@@SheepHillHerbs How interesting, what were the reactions you experienced, if I may ask. Also, I'd like to confirm if using the powdered hulls in a glycerite, would it have the antiparasitic effect as with a alcohol tincture?
Hi Jenel, thanks so much for this video! I was wondering, we have an English Walnut tree on our property. Can the hulls from our English walnut be used in the same way?
Hi Stu- you could use them in the same way. The thing is, Black Walnuts contain a high concentration of the compound Juglone (what makes things black). This compound is the highly effective compound for fungal, parasitic, and other skin issues. English walnut, as well as hickory nuts all contain juglone in the hull, but in smaller amounts.
Hi, question have you ever gotten a rash or hives because I just used gloves and realized the black walnut green hulls touch my side arm and felt itchy and had one hive bump, any recommendations or experiences or what to expect! Is it normal ? Also seen worms inside of it while there still green on some of them and is it safe ?
I have never had a hive from the hull juice. I would put a plantain poultice on the hive. You are having a pretty strong reactive to the hull. I would not use it. If you feel called to the tree. Sit with it, sit under it. Meditate with a picture of the tree in your mind. You are not ready for the medicine. Spend time with the lessons of Black walnut for a while. Also, I throw out the ones with worms. ☺🐛
Thank you for the video. I pour only the same vodka that you are using in the jar, then I cut the husk of the black walnuts and put straight in the vodka. I didn't use water. It is almost 1 month past but the husk didn't change its color. It is stayed green. Can you tell me please what should I do, why it didn't change its color. Thank you.
@@SheepHillHerbs Thank you for responding. Yes I picked the hulls. When I made first jar at first I cut the hulls, then I put in the jar with vodka, and one month past it turned out black, but when I made second one, I hold the walnut on the top of the jar so when I cut the hulls, it fell straight in the to the jar with vodka. I don't understand what is the reason.
@@gaianeg7927 I believe it didn’t darken because they were deprived of oxygen. It’s just like apples or bananas...they get brown when exposed to the air. It shouldn’t change the effectiveness of your tincture since the color comes from oxidation.
Thank you. I made tincture with 80 proof vodka, and I noticed a small residue at top of liquid. It does Not look like large mold circles. Looks like if a little oil was pored in. Just wondering do you have a residue or, is the liquid totally clear at top of jar? I appreciate your help. Thanks

I use it for fungal issues. However we don't really have them anymore! It is also good for maintenance (anti-parasitic). Meats usually have parasites, and of course if you live with animals it is likely you pick up parasites.
@@SheepHillHerbs I am thinking about using the ground up walnut hull to make tincture instead of the sliced ones. I am thinking it would probably be faster?
I have a place to get walnuts, but what time of the year should I harvest them. I don't like to pick them off the ground because the ones on the ground seem to be bruised from falling and infested with maggots. So what week in August or September should I harvest them, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th?
I usually start harvesting towards the end of August. I do pick them up off the ground. If you keep your eye out for them dropping, get them right away. I do not pick up any that have black spots. So as the hulls start to ripen they drop. You can also pick them off the tree when you see them dropping on the ground, they are probably very close to being ready. The time frame is different every year, slightly. I would say end of August, into the first few weeks of September as the best time. We will see... the timing is usually a little different every year.

Thanks for this informative video. I live in NYC. Would you be able to recommend where I can order fresh green hulled black walnuts, from an honest seller, and that they can be shipped to me? I ordered some from a seller on eBay; unfortunately, I was sent a box of rotting ones; even after I'd communicated with the seller beforehand what I needed them for and the condition I wanted them in. I received the complete opposite of fresh; a total contrast to the picture they used to advertise them on eBay. I couldn't use any whatsoever to make a tincture. I was so disappointed from that experience. I am indeed looking forward to make this tincture... Thanks
Hi! Glad you liked my video. Oh BOY! I would not know where to say to get them mailed. To be honest, I would say you need to pick them up. I would not expect them to last shipping, unless you have dry ice or something. They do turn pretty quickly. I cut them within 24 hours of harvesting, unless I have them stored somewhere cool. Even then, they start going black in a few days. So, I am not surprised that they didn't last via shipping. It is a bit late now to get the black walnuts fresh, you may have to wait until next year! Then I recommend, leaving the city, come to PA- and bring a cooler!
@@SheepHillHerbs Thanks for your rapid reply to my question. You're absolutely right; that very thought came to my mind earlier to pick them up directly from an orchard, etc. Yeah; I'll do that next season with my cooler :) ..in the meantime, I'll check out your store at etsy.
I sometimes add a little when making alcohol tinctures, because I just do not want all that alcohol. When I make glycerites, I also add some because the vegetable glycerin can be really thick. I do not add water when using vinegar.
