it sucks that videos/recording can never capture the feel and sound of loud noises, but I was next to a gto the other day with my windows down and I could literally feel the engine in my chest as it idled. I don't know if it was a simple cam/exhaust build or whatever was done, but it was the loudest car I've heard on the street in a while. Made me want to just go fast as I couldn't even hear my car or the radio lol I'm not a fan of these cars, just wanted to see if I could find anything on here that resembled it because it was definitely a nice sounding GTO.
I know right?!!!! I'm scheduled to bring my 06 goat to J.T.M Motorsports on Long Island, N.Y. in 2 weeks for nearly the same treatment. Specifically, B.T.R. stage 3 cam, American Racing long tube headers, catless mids with corsa sport x-pipe and exhaust, halltech intake plus a few other mechanical goodies. You might want to think about it first. Get insurance quotes before you buy. GTO is one of the most expensive cars to insure. Not many made, body parts are hard to get. My insurance agent told me, a Corvette is cheaper to insure. I am 54 yrs. old. no tickets, and my insurance is $1100 per year just on this car. If you do get one, be careful, the car can get away from you very easily.
kevin122759 yeah i know... i got an insurance quote from geico saying i will pay $842 every 6 months to insure it! but off course i won't be driving it like a complete maniac.
KOSx15 I pay 58$ bucks a month for my 2011 Camaro RS and Im 18, so Id look around for a different car first then look into a GTO a few years from now so you don't get drained of money. But you can also get away with a GTO with minor adjustments on your insurance by putting you as the secondary driver, or making the car a seasonal car or so on. Made my life easier. Cops see a young kid in a good looking car and they make a beeline for it. They do for me all the time hahahaha.
Nice GTO sounds great, I have the exact same GTO. 2006 spice red, got a flowtech cam, dart heads, kooks 1 7/8 long tube headers, custom Y-pipe exhaust, Stage 3 Monster racing clutch, built rear end, Svede intake, and custom tune. What is your HP?
I have not done any suspension work on mine yet. I am some other guy that owns a gto. I am curious as to what suspension upgrades you have done and did the upgrades help with hooking up. I have pretty much the same set up as this video but also have HP custom tune. I am running 402 hp at the wheels. Auto trans. You probably aren't experiencing the same problem as me since you have a manual trans. Shifts from 1st to 2nd is hair raising under heavy acceleration. Ass end breaks traction and you kind of go sideways.
Have you done any other internals in the engine besides the cam? I have the same header/exhaust setup on mine and I'm looking into this cam but I didn't know if there was anything else I should be looking into besides the cam...Thanks for any info you can provide. Sounds amazing!
Nope, no other internal mods aside from the cam. I'd highly recommend it, I used it as a daily for over a year with no problems. It bucks a bit below 1100rpms but nothing too bad.
How the heck does this sound much closer to a Corvette but if you dump a 6.0 into a Trans Am it won’t sound the same? Can someone explain I feel so dumb lol
DKLONGHORN I can answer that for you. The slaves are meh and you would benefit from haveing a decent one but can get away without it. But if you plan on doing any power mods like cam, heads, intake etc. or all of the above you need to get a Tick master cylinder. And If you are planning to do all of the mods on here I would definitely get a better clutch. At LEAST an LS7 clutch or better.
Is this your daily? Looking at buying a goat and i found one that is cammed. Not sure how it will be, i dont care about mpg obviously lol. Thanks, love the car
TheBugattiking96 Thanks! and I used to daily it, driving isn't bad. I just got a beater because I live in Illinois and it isn't practical for the winter.
$200 or so with exchange of my stock one. It was made local, I found it on Craigslist. A daaco would be similar. It was about $1200-1500 total for cam, springs, rebuilt transmission, stall, headers, 3 in exhaust, oil. Drove it hard a few months and sold it. Everything held up fine. New 5.0's, camaros etc I'd whoop the shit out of them. A stall is the best mod you can buy hands down.
Also with just the cam and headers, the car wasn't any faster and it wrecked the transmission fast. You have to get a stall with the cam, and you can go pretty damn big too. I'd prolly go with a 3600-3800 next time.
Any problems with police so far? Reason for asking is this: I got almost the same setup and I'm about to move back to Illinois. I don't know what to expect on emissions or from the cops.
I live in the Rockford area and there are so many loud cars here. Not sure if you live around here, but what's it been like? I've never heard of anyone getting pulled over for exhaust here, but I wouldn't doubt if they start.
I'd say its at the high end of streetable. It bucks below 1000rpms, but its easy to get used to. A little surge at low rpms but nothing too crazy. I got used to it after a week.
mrackelito1 Hard to put a number on it all together, but the cam was $1800 installed with a tune, and the headers were they other big power mod around $1000 total. Lots of other little things here and there that add up too.
418rwhp/394rwtq through a slipping clutch. I'll be getting it replaced soon, but hoping for 425/396. with an updated tune/colder weather it could be more.
Joe Mo It's not too bad. The tune I got from the shop that did the install was kind of weird, but after a re tune it was fine. Only complaint is it somtimes bucks below 1k rpms. I'm still using the stock clutch, but its toasted so I'm going with the LS7. I've heard its good for a daily.
Sry but corsa is always too loud on every car I've heard them on and frankly isn't pleasant to the ears as compared to the many other muffler competitors out there. I worked for a classic car/specialty car dealer for 5 years and have had several V8s personally, so I've head some stuff.
