Yeah so this was published by berteau's student j.l. duport (we know for sure that j.p. duport studied with berteau and j.l. studied with his brother. But we can assume he worked with berteau as well) anyway, these etudes were published with an instruction manual which indicates that the bowstroke, although separate, would likely be performed on the string in the upper half or middle. Later on, grutzmacher edited the etudes, adding his own indications and reducing the overall number. Best to take his indications with a grain of salt. And don't forget the turn after the trill! Most ignore it but berteau would have smacked you upside the head for neglecting it
