Actually its French Bread, the people who made Melty Blood(which is why Eltnum is on here) Arcs is just the publisher who put there name on the cover 3 times.
Okay, so I've done some research, and here's the run down: Hyde, Linne, and Waldstein are the three main protagonists. More on that down below. There are many organizations. There's Night Blade, which is what our protagonists are apart of, and two namely bad ones called Licht Kreis and Amnesia. Hilda is the leader of Amnesia. Now, before I tell you what an in-birth is, please understand this; there are MANY In-Births, MANY Voids, and then there are other characters. Now, first up, we have the Void. These guys are common. We don't know how they came to be, but one thing is for sure, if they bite you its like a werewolf effect... only more permanent. A Void instantly sucks out the person's soul basically making the equivalent of a Kingdom Hearts Nobody. This is where it can turn in one of two ways: the person will lose their sanity and become a Void as well... or retain their sanity and become what is called an In-Birth. In-Birth get the powers of the Void, but don't hunger to suck out life-force. Also, the body of a In-Birth is now called a Vassel. This is all because the person is really not alive or dead, and each person's power is never the same. Hyde gets lucky and gets an OP power. The power is called EXS, and don't ask me what it stands for because most of this sounds stupid as is, and its also an essence of sorts. In-Births can regenerate EXS to fight; but some get blocked of from this through some sort of disease... its not clear. And Void's can't regenerate their own (or something) and constantly hunger for any and all EXS. Lastly, and if you read all of that, we can talk about Re-Births who are In-Births but achieved some sort of enlightenment and are now extremely powerful. It doesn't say how one becomes one but it does say that there are only 6 in the world. I'm betting soon Hyde will become a Re-Birth and we will see at least one way it happens. That's all I can say for now. Other information is that Linne is immortal and takes over the life of an innocent girl (killing the girl) and regrets it each time; as it happens against her will. She is also the sister to Kuon who one of the six Re-Births. Waldstein is also probably immortal. He has lived for hundreds of years with Kuon and protects Linne because he was good friends with Kuon. Hyde, Waldstein, and Linne all seem like they are close to being able to achieve Re-Birth do to their immense power status, abilities, and the fact that at least Linne and Waldstein have already lived for hundreds of years. Linne really didn't give Hyde the sword, its actually a weapon he can just manifest. I'm not even sure how a In-Birth dies... or how weapons and powers get repossessed. Waldstein made the sharp gauntlets and has normal (yet also still large) hands. Its never understood why his appearance is the way it is. Hyde's parents are (as per usual to a protagonist) away, and Waldstein and Linne live with Hyde. Also, on Nights, In-Births are suppose to fight regardless of their feelings if they meet; as its just fate (they apparently needed this for plot purposes in the game). This is why Hyde had to fight Waldstein and Linne even though they are all friends, in the same allegiance, and even live together. I'm more curious how they dragged Waldstein home since its implied he's unconscious nearby.
Adding to this, once every month, the Hollow Knight manifests, which is a time Voids run wild and can drag people into their realm to devour them. This has been going on for basically all of time. Late[st] edition's Chronicles mode added a HELL of a lot of very interesting backstory to the game... And I like it. The reason Waldstein is the way he is is that, many years ago, he was part of the same organization as Orie is, Licht Kreis. They were warring with Night Blade, Linne's clan, and he challenged her brother Kuon to 1v1 combat. He tried to destroy his core, but merely touching it turned him into a Void, which is why he looks the way he is. Right before he could completely lose it however, Kuon used Insulator, what would later become Hyde's sword, (Which is ACTUALLY one of Vatista's wings that she gave to him) and cut off the EXS infesting him, allowing him to become super powerful without becoming super crazy. In gratitude, Waldstein ordered his soldiers to retreat and decided to look after Linne. By the way, Waldstein was actually friends with Adelheit, the female leader of Licht Kreis. Coincidentally it was around this time that all the males were kicked out of the organization. A coincidence, I'm sure. Because of some ritual, however, Kuon and Linne are now immortal. She doesn't like her brother for that, and generally avoids him, while also trying to find a way to kill herself permanently. Cut to a few centuries later. Orie is transferred over to Hyde's town and goes undercover at his school. He made an effort to help her get used to the place, which is why she really likes him (Yes, probably that way) and doesn't like fighting him. Along with this, Linne spends 5 months in Hyde's town. She bumps into him one day in a toy store, which leads to him defusing a bothersome situation for her later on. Hyde spent the rest of the day with Linne being nice to her, showing her around the town. This lead to a big appreciation for him, enough for her to spend a few days patrolling his school (for the sake of security of course... And not because she wanted to see him, definitely) and getting jealous at the closeness him and Orie share (I'm sure she wants that tall, busty body for reasons totally unrelated to that). Hyde gets caught up in an attack, however, and here, becomes an In-Birth. What makes Hyde special isn't him in particular, but that he somehow has Insulator with him. However, since he isn't into the whole "killing people who saved his life" thing and he wants to know what the hell is going on, he agrees to spend the next month training. However, Hyde's sword is pretty legendary and Hyde himself also absolutely sucks at lying and hiding secrets, so several organizations are aware that some high-school kid is aiding the Princess of the Night Blade while wielding that legendary sword and want to get their grubby hands on it. Also he sees Nanase become an In-Birth like him, and saves her, but instead of being grateful she calls him a pervert and tries to kill him, because she's weird and jumps to conclusions. With all that done, Hyde ends this game with getting a new housemate in Vatista. I'm sure that won't make things complicated.
I wouldn't be surprised if he was inspired by Ichigo and Ragna. He and Ragna get along real well in Blazeblue Cross Tag Battle, and the story of how he got his powers and such are actually really similar to Bleach.
To be fair, she's in an elementary school girl's body. Even if her thousand year old conscious says "no, goddammit, I don't want to do kid stuff and have a crush on this naive moronic kid who wields the Insulator, I just want to fucking die for good this time," she's certainly having trouble with it.
