We have a horse imported from germany at my barn and my coach uses the same purring noise technique when she's lunging him because it's a voice signal he was taught as a colt meaning to slow down

You mean the rider? It´s like clicking the tongue but the other way round. He knows it and so it helps her to slow him down a little easier in the beginning of the course. He really loves cross country and is quite a handful in the beginning ;). It´s actually really commonly used in Germany..

ich denke dieser patzer mir dem schmalsprung war nicht die welt es kann passieren denn die strecke war echt sehr lang . sonst super ritt :)
