  • A new season, and felling trees to open up a area of woodland ready for replanting with new species, and creating light for wild flowers and regenerating shrubs and trees.
This is not a "How to" video, but a video documenting my progress in learning how to manage a small woodland. This way I can see where I go wrong!
    Thanks for watching.

Nice, but hard work. Looking forward to the spring when I see all the fruits of my labour. Cheers, Steve.

I suspect the wood has a long way to go steve - I mean your plans for it. But what we're seeing thus far is real progress. Good going mate. Mark

Hi Mark. Still a way to go. I don't want to change it too much. Replanting in the spring, and bramble clearing.

Great to get an update on your woods stewardship; it's a great example for others. Your chainsaw prowess is definitely growing, too. As a day's work, that beats most "workout" programs. Maybe time to rename the channel to Industrious Veggie! Really looking forward to seeing your woods green up in the wake of your thinning.

As a "professional pen pusher" I have finally found out what a hard days work really is! But it does leave you feeling satisfyingly tired.
Yes, I too am looking forward to seeing what spring brings, with replanting and regrowth. Thanks, Steve.

I love the idea of the Hazel coppice, maybe look into small scale traditional charcoal burning in the future? Looking forward to seeing if more bluebells appear now they have that extra light, you want to keep on top of the brambles in the clearing though or they'll soon take over.

The big hazel are spread about the Wood, the place I thinned is the only area I can give over to hazel coppice, it's small but I want to try hazel pleaching and replanting more.

Nice video. Is the woodland yours, if it is you have a fantastic playground. Thanks for the video.

Yes the woodland is mine. A small plot in a much bigger woodland. I'm trying to leave it in a better place, thinning and introducing new native species.

You're felling like a pro now Steve, good job to let in more light for the woodland plants just stay on top of the brambles come Spring. It's nice that you're leaving habitat piles and not burning the brush like a lot of people do.

I'm getting more confident with the saw, still a way to go. I do like the thought of making good habitats for wildlife, more mice equals more birds of prey and a healthier woodland. Look after the small things and the big things should follow. Thanks for watching, Steve.

Nice to see your still around. Woodland looking better, plenty of light able to reach the floor. Should be good for the spring.
