They're still really expensive but hopefully the price will come down. Their capabilities are awesome.
Archer on an Oshkosh chassis….. round compatibility with US towed artillery…. Tracked platforms are likely to be out of vogue given the demonstrable need for fast shoot and scoot and that US forces have to plan for exposure to asymmetric forces and the absence of air dominance at low level.
@@FacitOmniaVoluntas. Does it really matter? It would significantly affect accuracy in a negative way and the Archer can do it’s magic in less than a minute before it moves and it moves fast. I think tracked platforms are bad, as they are too slow and vulnerable.
@ Not sure it helps much on a wobbly road and I sure wonder how it could be more accurate unless the barrel is longer and better supported. Actually, it doesn’t seem to have any kind of additional support and that’s what matters for ordinary shells.
Those projectiles get turned into dumb rounds once a peer adversary jams their GPS or sends it false data. They need to update with quantum navigation technology as soon as they can miniaturise it.

Instead of tinkering with a very long gun that will inherently have high wear, it’s probably the best approach to adopt an L52 gun for future M109s and wheeled SPH, seeing all the success those have had in other militaries. From a base platform perspective, I think the Elbit or BAE offerings would be most favorable for the US Army. Since I know nothing about the comparative abilities of the guns or artillery systems themselves, I can’t really speak anything about that.
Don’t be surprised if there turns out to be 2 different procurements, one on tracks with a short barrel (39 cal) for the Battalion and below use cases and a second wheeled procurement with a longer barrel (56/58 cal) at Brigade and above use cases.
An L39 barrel is horribly outdated and out ranged. The only reason they’d adopt a new tracked vehicle instead of keeping the M109 would be to introduce a new L52 gun or similar.
And the M8 AGS! GDLS was selected over BAE updated M8. M8 AGS was selected in the 1990s. 237 to be procured for the 82d Airborne and 2d ACR. $ from cancelling was to go into the Comache attack helo and Crusader programs. Both were also cancelled in the next 2 years after axing the M8. Glad we are getting the M10 Booker. An MPF is better than no MPF. That said the fix was in from the begining for GLDS.

Not leading but most expensive. Ukraine war is showing us weapons are crap and don’t work even though massively over priced. After Ukraine war us weapons sales outside USA will collapse. Patriot doesn’t work, Russian s300 far superior. the real question here is whether what is very temporarily called the united states states of america will continue to exist until these projects are realized, or not, Personally, I strongly doubt it...
Because there are only 8 of them. Less probability of destruction. Paladin, AHS Krab or Caesar were sent in much larger numbers, so they were destroyed more often.
@ only eight but they are high value targets. I think the other howitzers are not as fast so they are less likely to move out of harms way. I saw a video showing that one radar unit used to determine where shells come from had been destroyed. Alas, I don’t remember if it was hit by a howitzer or a rocket. Either way works for me, these are good to get rid of

Yes, the most corrupt politician in US history who just sold us out to Russian-loving Elon Musk will change things. Man, I wish I was this delusional lmao.
The U.S. production of 155mm artillery shells has been significantly inadequate since before the war in Ukraine and hasn’t been significantly increased. As the US continues to support Israel and Ukraine, the fielding of additional U.S. artillery systems no matter the elegance of the technology seems irrelevant since the U.S. isn’t able to support more than a 90 day engagement.
Why deploy something where there is no War going on again? USA needs serious offers for how to counter Russian Artillery first...and to date that has been the MLRS system and nothing with a barrel😊😊
This video was supposed to be published late last year, but due to some technical difficulties it was forced to be published early this year.

Good video!
I've always liked the Archer howitzer! It fires the Excalibur guided projectile so it's very much "one shot, one kill".

Based for defensive strategy not for offensive
Artillery is both, depending upon how it’s used. See both sides in Ukraine making heavy use of it.
The new artillery system for the USA should keep weight and mobility in mind for the Asia theather.
What is with the weird pauses in the narration?
Automated voice. Channel is out of India.
Major Dean sure loves his word salad.
Major General which is a three star general not a Major with the first name of Gen. , try to pay attention.
How fast can we make them and how fast can we produce the ammo?
Dum 155mm ammo is the same as always but yes, the smart ammo can be a problem.
Artillery and drones are as important and tanks and infantry these days. Maybe more so.
The people who cancelled Crusader should be permanently on the procurement wall of shame.
Is it cancelled though?👀
