      You absolutely should :-). Yes we had 2 engines. At one point the first engine went ahead alone and filled up with water because the weight with both was too much over certain areas but we picked it back up down the track :-). I was grateful that someone had suggested the train to me, it ended up being one of the highlights of my trip there ❤️ Hope you get to check it out someday:-)

    Great video Christi. I'm glad you were able to ride the train. I lived in Durango for 29 years. I worked on the train for two summers and one winter. I know it well. Beautiful, beautiful scenary.

      Oh very cool!! I bet you’ve seen some wildlife for sure. I only saw a couple of Elks but I was hoping for the elusive bear sighting lol. Even without that I’d repeat the trip all over. I wish there was more time to explore the big city of Silverton lol but maybe that’s a separate trip anyway :-). Hope you are having great adventures out there on the road :-)

      Occasionally gets into the low 90s, but normally in the 80s for daytime highs. Low humidity always. Gets down into the 50s every night in the summer.

      @@TinyTexanAdventures Thanks, did you take the bus or van for return trip?
      You said open air car also?

    • @TinyTexanAdventures
      @TinyTexanAdventures  Год назад

      I took the train ride back. Some people preferred to ride the bus back, but I liked being able to see the scenery that I missed from the other side of the train on the way there :-) Yes, I selected the open air car, and did not regret it for a minute. It was a little cool in Silverton, but nothing that a jacket couldn’t fix for me :-)

    The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad runs on a 45 mile long rail line that was built from the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad back in 1882. Both the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and this narrow gauge heritage railroad are the only original narrow gauge from the D&RGW to survive in operational condition. They have these amazing steam locomotives on the D&S. Denver & Rio Grande Western 473, 476, 478 (All built by American Locomotive Company in 1923, and are now 100 years old), 480, 481, 482, 486 (All built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1925), 493, 498 (Both built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1902, originally as standard gauge 2-8-0 steam locomotives over until 1928 and 1930), and Rio Grande Southern 42 (Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1887).

    How is the seating in the open air cart? Is it just a wooden bench or does the seating have a back to them? I'm asking because I'm taking my parents and would love to sit in the open air but have to think of their comfort as well...thank you

    • @TinyTexanAdventures
      @TinyTexanAdventures  4 месяца назад +1

      The seats/benches do have backs to them and with a little padding (not much, but better than just a wooden surface). Hope y’all enjoy it as much as I did :-)
