I’ve lost 500 lbs following a carnivore lifestyle (yes, not a typo!). I failed every diet and lap band surgery. The carnivore diet has given me the elusive “off switch” that I never had before. I don’t restrict my food, I don’t track macros. I simply eat meat until I am satiated. People tell me eating this way of eating is restrictive and dangerous. But at 52 years old I feel and look better than I did in my 20s. My doctor is amazed at my transformation. I have my life back and I look forward to growing “healthy old” and not being a burden on my beautiful family. Life is great now. Keto/carnivore is healing in so many ways.
The best ever presentation. I'm living proof. The most liberating realisation after overcoming obesity since I was 8 years, ruined my life, it wasn't my fault. I'm 58. At 56 I either had to find the truth myself or die. I had to throw away everything I was taught and seek the truth. Self educated myself. Key. Seeking truth and educating yourself. I went from 115kg to 62kg in 10 months. 18 months later I'm 65kg. Off all medication. Reversed diabete. Anaemia. I can't list all healed medical conditions. Lot of challenges society doesn't support this but don't let that be an issue. You have control. No one else. Bless you all. Xox .
So happy for you that you found the answers you needed, but what is so impressive is that your discipline and love for life gave you the motivation to correct your body chemstry through eating what your body needs for nourishment. Even at 58, you can still look forward to several decades of a healthier life, with more energy than most people.
Wish I found this years ago. I’m 55. Very carb sensitive and addicted to carbs. So many symptoms, I finally stopped eating all carbs and then started watching all these sugar, fats, vegetable oil lectures. My joint pain is improving, I’m no longer sleepy all day, I can go all day without a nap, I’m not starving constantly. I was too addicted. I’m only 4 weeks since no carbs, but this is pretty mind boggling. I ate no fat everything and worked out all my life. Felt terrible with chronic pain. All better now. Eating everything we were taught would make you fat. Just remember, cream and butter and bacon and eggs really can make you forget sugar and carbs. It’s true.
med student here. this is by far the best lecture i have ever attended about metabolsim. it's easy, simple, complete and engaging. well done, i loved it!! thank you
I've done keto/low carb and lost 204 pounds going from 350 to 146. I reversed my diabetes going from an a1c of 7.7 to 4.2 and my high blood pressure that wasn't even being controlled by medication after years is now perfect. High cholesterol is now perfect. Now that I'm at my goal weight I switched over to low carb, doing 50 net carbs a day. Still managed to lose 5 pounds.
""You are not to blame for being overweight IF You Have Been Following Bad advice."" - Outstanding Great lecture. Possibly the most comprehensive one I have listened to.. Thank You Dr. Paul Mason.
My whole family was morbidly obese, EXCEPT my grandfather. He was never ate any flour or sugar, only in the World War II, when the quality food was scarce. And he was insanely strong, lifting 200 kgs of weight, and bending nails with his fingers. He was never got sick, not even a cold or flu. He passed away five years ago, aged 102. My family said: "he got good genes"! Yeah, the genes, of course. I try to live like him, he is my role model.
I have been suffering from Osteo Arthritis since I was 28, Im now 46, and in the last 5 years my weight has slowly gotten higher to a point where I now hover around 17 stone, when my ideal weight is 13 and a half stone. Ive been going to doctors for years and I have not had one doctor that has noticed my skin tags under my armpits or tell me im insullin resistant. Instead I'm told im lazy and I need to diet, without actually putting me on the right kind of diet. Ive learnt more in watching this video, than ive recieved in help from doctors in the last 18 years. Thank you.
Hi fingers yeah I bet your doc never suggested you try a low carb diet ever did he/she? These bloody docs learn less than a half a day about nutrition in their entire medical training. It's pathetic, & a disgrace to the entire medical profession. A deliberate, evil obfuscation (by someone who knew) to keep people sick so they would have customers forever. They should have told us this, or they should have learned this. Whichever it is - the lie is perpetuated by the medical profession/system. Pht. Corrupted like the rest. Good luck with your new path. Be well.
This video just popped up so I decided to watch it. I am 74 and 10 weeks ago decided to cut carbohydrates from my diet knowing that my type 2 diabetes could go into remission. It’s now Christmas and I have lost 20lbs eating the things I enjoy and basically eating 2 meals a day while not feeling empty hungry. My hip arthritis is no longer painful after driving for an hour my knee joints are no longer painful and getting up and down on them is easier. I am more mentally alert and my mood is more relaxed. Waiting for my annual checkup at the doctors when I wish to remove medications I have been on for years. Stubbornness is what has stopped me in the past and eating conveniently. This lecture has given me more knowledge and inspiration to carry on along with all the benefits already noticed, well done for explaining everything so well and thank you for sharing your knowledge I wish I had known this many years ago.

Agreed, following low carb in the last few months I’ve gone from around 119kg to 102kg at 6’4. I’d previously peaked at 137kg I run with my greyhound (retired) and love never feeling cravings or even hungry 👍
What is the matter with me inbetween 6 to 8 cps a day i know veryo well not to have the2 2 to 3 spoond per cup of coffee been doing it for 30 to 40 years st 78 i am still exercising. What. Degenerizing ca i expect
I’ve watched hundreds of videos on the case for a low carb diet. This is probably the BEST one which explains it so well in a 30 min presentation. Well done Dr Mason !! Absolutely fantastic preso.
OMG, I feel like this video was made to explain why have battled my weight my entire adult life. I have only just started on a low carb diet three weeks ago. My brain fog has reduced significantly, i have lost 5 kg and I have way more energy . About 12 weeks ago a dietitian told me reason I am overweight is because I am lazy. She said that I choose fruit for dinner is because I don’t want to cook. I was confused, because I cook a conventional meal every day, I just prefer fruit. After this video I feel as though I am on the right track, and I did not follow her low-fat, high carb diet, because I have tried them before and I have lost wight, then put it back on again, thank you Dr Mason, I needed this tonight. So glad to have an Australian Doctor sounding so positive about this way of eating. Cheers and thanks. Mary
Me too! I lost 40 three years ago and am addicted to this lifestyle. Another good one to watch is Jason Fung on intermittent fasting WITH low carb. AMAZING! Speeds it all up...
Weight issues and obesity is a hormone problem, not the result of a character flaw. Insulin may be the key hormone in weight issues, but not the only one. That dietitian is simply ignorant, though likely repeating what she was taught, Yet nearly all dieticians promote the very foods that trigger high levels of insulin: carbohydrates - which makes the body store fat, and block fat burning. In addition to sugar and starches (which are just sugar), lectins (found in many commonly eaten plants including beans and peas) can also trigger high insulin levels: Dr. Paul Mason 'How Lectins Impact Your Health...' ruclips.net/video/mjQZCCiV6iA/видео.html Gary Taubes says, 'The world is full of greyhounds who think that if they could get basset hounds to eat and run like they do, they basset hounds would become greyhounds.' He says that because they are lean, because they have never struggled with their weight, they think that if everyone ate and lived as they do, everyone would be lean like them - forgetting that not everyone is the same. Karma may catch up to them, as many people who are lean without effort in their 20s and 30s often find their weight creeping up by their 40s, 50s, and 60s. ruclips.net/video/cm5Cdy4-KtU/видео.html In addition to eating according to government guidelines - a high carbohydrate diet - many chemicals found in increasing levels in the environment, our food, and our bodies can also trigger obesity: articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2018/10/03/household-cleaners-may-trigger-childhood-obesity.aspx
Remove the fat, add the sugar/carbs to make it palatable. Incredible that when you read the labels there is added sugar in almost everything!! They know they are using it to addict us. This is like big tobacco back in the 80s.
Excellent program. I m a very bad diabetic , insulin resistance, hoping to go very very low carbohydrate? I would love to have good advise from a reputable diabetic for the new way to treat diabetics.
Yes but the agricultural system and sustainability (because of the bees), mean that grains must be part of our diet in this number. Survival of the fittest. Stop teaching people how to be healthy and subconsciously control population... lol what an awful world we live in. So much opportunity
I've lost 90 pounds in one year eating low carb and this was the best video out of hundreds that I've watched about low carb life! Thank you! I can't wait to share this with everyone I know!
Two weeks ago, I decided to cut carbs, and follow keto. I am 132lbs and 5ft which is overweight. 2 weeks later I am 126 lbs! I upped my fats and I’m not as hungry. Shocked at the results.
At the beginning of this year (2023), I made a hard pivot on my dietary habits from low fat/high carb to high fat/low carb. I was at about 260 lbs, and a month and a half later am at 235 lbs. This is without any change in my daily physical activity.
brilliant talk- been on keto and IF for 3 years now. my arthritis is gone - my mind is clear, i have perfect weight and i almost never get tired. loved the bio - chemistry bit a lot
I started keto 8 months ago. I have lost 60 lbs and feel great. I sometimes only eat once a day, but typically eat twice. My doctor was shocked by how much weight I have lost. Conventional wisdom is wrong.
@DCD As Dr. Jason Fung sais: If you want to lose weight, don't eat and your body will burn your fat. It's logic, right. Thing is with a low fat diet and restricting calories your are constantly starving. With a ketogenic diet combined with fasting your aren't. Both go hand in hand. Your insulin resistance can heal, as you are fasting 16, 18, 20 hours a day without having an overwhelming feel of hunger and when you eat you can eat as much as you want until your are not hungry any more. And you will feel saturated by eating fats and protein and it will last a long time. Also fat and protein won't skyrocket your insulin, which is even better to cure your insulin resistance.
This very clearly answered several questions I had that I couldn't get from other medical professionals or their books. In 30 minutes, I had all my questions answered and it totally makes sense. Excellent lecture in an easy to follow presentation.
Nature/God wrapped carbs up in a colorful tasty wrapping that's easy to pick off a tree. Nature/God wrapped fat up in a hard wodden shell, or legs that run away when it sees you. Now does it all totally make sense?
@@GaryHighFruit the colorful tasty wrapping was full of fiber and antioxidants that reduce/negate some of the damage done by the sugar. But Man came along and extracted and refined the sugar without the other things that help Mans body deal with the sugar. So these processed food will slowly kill you and your much better off eating an animal instead.
I also added a 48 hour fast once a week. The weight just keeps coming off. Thank you Dr Mason. That was an incredible lecture that explains what a low carb diet can achieve.
Missing a few meals can not hurt you. Your body was designed to get you through hard times Your body will simply burn off some of the extra weight on it!! Think about what people must of been eating over a hundred years ago. I am 70yrs old, I have more energy , no inflammation, eat all I want in 2 or 3 meals a day. It is called a Ketogenic way of eating ! It used to be called eating Whole Foods with an emphasis on meat and seafoods!! No processed food!!
@@niamhbutler5685 if you are eating carbs and sugar and try it, you will be very uncomfortable, it's really not that simple. On keto your body is already living on fats not glucose, but you have to make that transition before you start the fasting
Thank God for doctors like you! This was excellent. I am a nurse and a person who is overweight by 50 lbs. Everyone of my Drs have said, oh and by the way you should loose several lbs. I know from working with children under two yrs that Australia is the most advances in nutrition for babies. America is still catching up and are still catching up in nutrition for adults! Thank you so much
You should be! And do you generally feel better in your health (ignoring the weightloss part I mean)? I know I do, I have more energy, sleep better (or at least, deeper) and I fidget a lot now (my body seems to want me to keep moving a lot more but I don't exercise per se, other than some very irregular lifting of light weights)
Even if you only lift once a day a few times a week, you will still be making some progress. Usually when i start up again, it will only be 2-3 times a week, while feeling out the diffrent muscle groups. If you haven't done alot of moving around for a while, just lifting a weight 5-10 times once a day, is a huge diffrence from doing nothing.
I weighed 162kg 5 weeks ago and started on a KETO and Intermittent Fasting diet and guess what I feel fantastic and lost 10.1 kg so far. This is the best lifestyle program to be on! and I think it is literally saving my life!
+RC. So you had a ca 6% reduction in body weight via being on a DIET. That is good for you because you are over weight and need to burn EXCESS energy stores, but if a male at at six feet and 70 kilos did the same. It wouldnt. Diet, as in body reducing types, isnt a "life style".
When I eat carbs I have lots inflammation and bloating. I started keto and intermittent fasting and a few extended fasts. In 4 months I've lost 45 lbs and I feel amazing!
Love your présentation Doctor! I am on a carnivore/ keto diet and feel as good at 58 as I felt in my early 20’s! Great energy and I only eat twice a day, not hungry for a third meal, I eat plenty of fatty fish and meat and good butter! No more IBS , bloating, and I have dropped 20 lbs so far in 3 and a half months! Went from 143 to 123 and still losing. Most physicians are against people doing low or no carbs diet and really against fat but they are killing us with the sugar in cereals, carbs etc… There is a real movement starting here in the USA, but Physicians will drop you as their patients if you eat carnivore or keto long term! Your cholesterol is higher they say and they do not even look at the triglycerides! You will have a heart event if you eat fat”the docs will tell you, but in reality what causes damage through our arteries is sugar!!!! Thank you for exposing the lies!
This is what I started doing nearly two and a half years ago. Lost 100lbs of fat, 60% fat percentage reduced to 26.8% . More importantly though NO HUNGER. Is it any wonder I am still eating low carb today? Keep your insulin stable and low and wonderful side effects follow. I am finally, after 40 years of low fat high carb diets and loads of exercise, living my dream to eating rich and tasty foods when I want with no hunger or bingeing.
dylan mebrusta what’s your malfunction? People are medically proscribed testosterone and steroids for a number of medical conditions and it is good for them. Keto diets have been around tested and proven for years. This isn’t new it’s just getting the attention it should of gotten years ago. What credentials do you bring to the conversation?
@@ucchi9829 you reply with ignorant shit to everyones weight loss story? why do you think this is? Personality defect? Reductio ad absurdum is not a valid argument and proves no point.
Wow. Just wow. I have done hundreds of research on insulin and the affiliation it has to weight gain and this guy explained it better than anyone I've seen before. Extraordinary work.
Dr. Paul Mason, you have done an amazing job here by turning a very complex topic into a very simple topic that everyone can understand. Your style of presentation and speech is very clean and powerful. I commend your efforts and thank you for all the work you have done and continue to do. The world is a better place because of you and your continued work.
when i was 18..training for bodybuilding comps..idecided to compete in the under 21s division of Mr Australia..except i had a 36" waist..no definition whatsoever..looked flabby..due to drinking 4 or more lt of milk a day..and lots of other carbs..rice .pasta..potatoes etc..i knew i needed to undergo a total transformation in order to look to be a viable contender..so i went keto for 2 months..lost 6" off my waist and tightened and cut up..and won 1st place..at age 57..after 30 years of alcohol abuse..and ingesting lots and lots of other carbs..even tho i was training 4 or 5 days a week.. i decided to do something about my 48" waist..on top of a 46" chest..and a God awful "physique" repleat with manboobs...i severely cut back on alcohol..was averaging 20 bottles of wine a week..i went keto again..except i ate plenty of green vegies..eggs.. meat..did aerobics..got fit and did interval sprints..much more that i did steady state..took up boxing training..did regular weight training..did NOT switch to lo-fat milk..even drank 300ml bottles of cream for energy! After about 6 months i reduced my waist fromm 48" to 35"..and vastly improved my body composition and became muscular and veiny..people noticed! Moral of the story is...any time i have been fat,,it was due to way too many carbs..and oh yeah..my numbers and blood work improved significantly
Wouldn’t be WONDERFUL if all GP s in Australia would have Dr Mason’s knowledge & duty of care ,instead of being rushed out the consulting room with never ending prescriptions that only makes us sicker physically, mentally and emotionally? Amazing Educational video,Dr. Mason,we need more MD’s like you, thank You!
Elisa Agnew, this is all they do in the UK. No clue about nutrition, supplements, fasting, herbs, hormones, good sleep, nothing. Anything you say, they have tablet for & then when you have severe side effects, another tablet for that & so on. Elderly are sufferring the worst with this approach. Sigh!
Thank you Dr. Mason for your constant and consistent dedication on this subject. A lecture such as this makes the low carb discussion much easier to understand
Has anyone ever noticed that the ones that oppose lchf diets have never tried it? The few that have usually change their views. Most living with the head fog alone never realize it until it is gone. Good health,
A few years ago I would have chalked you up a shill. Now that I've gone LCHF, I know that you are telling the truth. The effect is truly amazing, life changing in fact.
I’ve battled on SAD diet for 40 years! Keto has saved me. My story is the same as your patient along with being frowned on by people because I HAD to eat every few hours or I felt I’d faint. AND going out to dinner at night everyone would say just don’t eat that day..😳 I felt as though I would be hospitalised if i didn’t at least snack that day! Now I frequently am 16:8 and often OMAD with an occasional easy fast for 48hours 😂
Great that you are having good results and doing some longer term fasting. If you watch RUclips videos from Dr Jason Wang and/or Dr Berg you willl learn that day two of fasting is the hardest, and if you've made it that far, do a few more days because they get much easier. From this you get more and greater benefits of autophagy (the body cleaning out of old mitochondria, toxins, cysts, etc.), making it easier for new healthy cells.. getting rid those that lead to disease, cancer, etc. If I'm telling you somethings you already know, not my intent. Best wishes for good health.
Congratulations! Not only did we get the most up-to-date scientific evidence in this presentation but it was beautifully illustrated with slides. I can now understand why Dr Peter Bruckner has asked Paul Mason to write the nutrition chapter in the upcoming fifth edition of the textbook on sports medicine which Peter Bruckner originally produced some 20 years ago. Paul ( and Dr Rod Tayler) keep these high quality presentations coming . Thanks
Oh it absolutely works! I gave up all kinds of sugar and only have the occasional pizza or slice of cake once a month or even twice ( but it makes me feel awful 😣) which serves me as a good reminder of why I stoped eating such things a long time ago. The other thing is too much fructose rich fruits and vegetables… Yes I stoped that as well. I only eat a handful of berries in the morning and the occasional banana, pineapple or papaya. I only drink water with a little Himalayan salt ( two glasses in the morning and a glass at lunch time. No breakfast and only late lunch and early dinner, that leaves 16 hours gap between, dinner and lunch. I don’t drink alcohol or smoke, I sleep 8 hours most days abs exercise 15 minutes every other day. what do I eat, you may ask. My diet consists mostly of animal protein, some vegetables protein and low fructose vegetables, lots of olive oil. avocado oil and green tea. I am now 55 years old but only yesterday I was told I look in my early 30s (my profile photo was taken five months ago) I am size 8, 1,75 tall and 75 kilos. I decided to drastically change my diet as soon as I started seeing sings of ageing and weight gain. I studied intensively anything related to nutrition and listened to my mother, she passed away due to Covid two years ago at the age of 89. Although she wasn’t formally educated in nutrition or medicine… she was definitely spot on, when she used to tell us to not eat any carbs, sugars or starches. She had six children, but kept an immaculate figure and weight until her death. I wish governments would invest much more in educating the average person in the evils of carbs and heavily tax and discourage carb and sugar producing businesses, which poisons people and puts a massive burden on the health care system.
I, literally, ten minutes prior to watching this video, had a phone meeting with our 'One and Only' diabetic doctor in our small city. I informed his associate that since I stopped Metformin, Basaglar and went on a very low carb/intermittent fasting (removing nearly 80-85% of carbs) regime, my eye sight has improved, my energy has started coming back, my body shape has changed drastically, my joints aren't nearly as 'achy', but my bloody glucose at fasting is still a little high, 14.9mol/L +/-. My glucose goes down to about 9mol/L later on in the day, but that's the only issue I'm having, oh and my weight hasn't change as greatly as I'd hoped. My Dr.'s associate said I need to exercise more (but did not ask me if I had a history of personal injury or health problems), said I should go back on insulin and need to increase my dose of Metformin (only restarting it yesterday because of kidney pains) from 500mg to 2000mg. Argh! Ever feel that you aren't being heard?
Doctors have a protocol they follow. Addressing medical problems through food does not follow their protocol and you’ll get more and more pressure to follow their way.
I've been very interested in low-carb diets over the last 9 months. I've watched many excellent, excellent videos and read a few books. This is the best 30-minute presentation on the case for a low-carb diet I've had the pleasure of watching (no exaggeration). Well done, Dr. Mason!
Look up Dr Jason Fung. He has done a lot of work in this area and like Dr Mason is also a great speaker. Dr Fung's first book is the Obesity Code. He has a series of videos based on that book, you can find the first one by entering "Dr Jason Fung, The Obesity Code, Why we gain weight, part 1" there are six videos in the series and each will take you to the next. It is surprising how compelling they are. He has another video that is about 45 minutes long and like this one it is a summary of a lot of information. I might start with this video first because it is a summary, it depends whether you want an overview first or if you like to go straight into it. Here's a link to it:. ruclips.net/video/7nJgHBbEgsE/видео.html If you're not comfortable clicking on a link, the keywords to find the video are "Dr Jason Fung, fasting as a therapeutic option for weight loss" I have one more that I'll share, in this one he goes into depth about the conflicts of interest between pharmaceutical companies and nutrition information and how that affects the information we're given, how what we think we know is often not correct and the reasons why. ruclips.net/video/z6IO2DZjOkY/видео.html Again, if you're uncomfortable clicking on a link the keywords for this one are "Dr Jason Fung, CrossFit pharmaceutical conflict of interest" I hope this is useful, Dr Paul Mason, Dr Jason Fung and Dr Robert Lustig are all excellent speakers and they've all sacrificed in their careers in the name of science and getting information out to the public.
@@Kyarrix Agreed.. I have watched many of them... Dr Lustig several times previously, and Dr Jason Fung more recently. I started with Gary Taubes a few years ago (Good Calorie, Bad Calorie) & just finished his most recent book, A Case For Keto. Thanks for the tips nonetheless.. Stay well. . 👍
@@louisa4295 If you haven't already, check out Dr Berry's RUclips channel (KenDBerryMD). He's follows the carnivore diet now, but used to follow ketogenic diet and has a lot of information on both diets.
The all cause mortality is the bottom line and is really an important part of this whole presentation.. So it was great to see he went into that. A meth diet will make you lose weight too, but is it really healthy?
We have known this information for a long time. Sing it from the mountain. Doctors and nutritionalists need to educate the general population. Fantastic video. It needs to be shown in school to the children. Nutritionist so important in education.
I disagree, Dr.'s and health professionals are still in the dark about healthy nutrition or they wouldn't be reccomending the SAD (Standard American/Austrailian Diet) today!
Great intro to the subject, but for people just finding this topic, know that one of the results of switching to these diets is you need to pay attention to your electrolytes, namely sodium & magnesium. It's REALLY easy to get sodium deficient because of the insulin drop so you need to be adding salt to your meals. I didn't pay attention to this for the first 2 months and then at one point my body lost the ability to balance and I just collapsed to the floor for 5 minutes. It was terrifying. I realized I hadn't really been taking in any salt -- all my foods were unsalted. I started adding salt to everything and I'm fine again. But imagine if something like this happened to me while I was driving.... Yeah, make sure you study up!
Sodium, magnesium, & potassium. Need the right balance of all three electrolytes to maintain proper hydration. Morton's lite salt is a proper balance of magnesium and potassium that you can add with regular salt. If you still get muscle cramps you can take oral potassium supplements. And topical magnesium oil which usually comes in a spray bottle to spray on your torso, arms, and legs to soothe the muscles that ache.
When doing low carb, I had a phase when I frequently woke up in the night due to muscle cramps in my legs. Fortunately, eating a lot of pumpkin seeds fixed that.
anlumo1 Iodised sea salt increase in your diet will stop muscle cramps. Pumpkin seeds can cause inflammation especially if you are sensitive to lectins.
Yes and no. Salt is an inorganic compound, therefore the body cannot use it. And if the body cannot use it, it is poison, plain and simple. So why are your symptoms going away when you have salt? Cause every poison has different effects on the body. And a sudden stop of intaking of poison will always cause withdrawal symptoms. So frequent cramps, passing out and constipation are the major witrhdrawal symptoms of cutting salt. Does that mean you should have more salt? No, of course not. Just realize what you're doing, and go through the withdrawal period very carefully. It can take 5-7 days from my own experience. Drink LOTS and LOTS of water. That will (just like salt) elevate your blood pressure a little, just enough so all three symptoms will be diminished. Whenever you get a cramp, get up and walk. Whenever you feel you're passing out, lie down. And go on drinking water, at least a GALLON / day! You could even adress the salt addiction by going raw vegan for a few days, drinking lots of fresh juices, and then go right back to being low carb / keto or even carnivore. I did that, and it worked fine for me.
You are one of the smartest and most logical people I have ever watched. You explained me to a tee... Marathon runner who cant get under 100kg... Lose weight then have "normal food" and weight goes on overnight... Skin things under my arms... Eat nothing, dry salad for breakfast, 2 eggs for lunch.... And not lose any weight... Ride 300km on my bicycle in a day and add 2kgs.... It is impossible to lose weight... You defined me to a tee... You are amazing.
That first patient sounds just like me, I said ask those same things before I discovered LCHF! That lecture was OUTSTANDING! thank you. It's wonderful to see some scientifically backed studies on this subject, rather than lots of RUclips "facts", which are for the most part correct, but not something you can get naysayers to listen to! Now I've got something to show my GP if he argues with me over my choice of strategies to manage my T2 diabetes. This needs to be more widely taught to doctors and nurses, they certainly didn't teach this when I was at uni (nursing).
I just sent this to several family members. It is an excellent lecture because people with many different levels of biology knowledge can follow and understand it. Love all of Dr. Mason's videos as I always learn something.
I read books, articles and watched many videos on different diets including the low carb and carnivore diet, but this video if by far the most informative and presented in a easy to understand professional way. On my 4th week of super low carb diet less 7lbs. Thank you.
Brilliant explanation of mainstream diet problems to the lay person. I have been researching low carb, keto etc for weeks and this is the most interesting, thought provoking video Iv'e seen. Bravo Dr Mason!
I went low carb on Nov 30th 2021. I also do intermittent fasting. 1) lost about 1 stone in weight, but I wasn't really much overweight. 2) my continual heart burn has gone. I used to have ormeprazole everyday and always had rennie close by. 3) I used to have incredible pain when I 1st ate each day..... felt like food would get stuck half way down and id be stuck between waiting for it to pass and wanting to regurgitate. Since November tge problem has gone. 4) blood pressure is better 5) I used to get regular headaches that would often become migraines. Not had a single one since going keto. 6) energy levels are stable all day. People often mention having tons of energy..... i haven't felt that, BUT I have felt a nice steady energy level throughout the day, with no sleepiness. 7) I started this 'diet' to lose some weight.... but I've now made into my lifestyle due to the health benefits I've gained whilst on it. Downside for me is turning to gin and slim tonic to deal with carb cravings.
Fantastic video, is worth to watch to the end! I´m 42 days low carb( less than 20 gr a day) I lost 15 kilos and feel better than ever and still eat a lot!
I don't know man. I am not a nutritionist but I had lost a bunch of weight eating high protein moderate carbs and low fat and was following calories in and calories out. I am staying lean year round and have a lot of energy. I see a lot of comments where it says they lost 60lbs or 100lbs on this keto and that is good for them. I am not going to say that the low carb diet is bad because it is working for a lot of people, but I do wish people would see that it is not the only way to diet. People have bodies that react differently to different diets. I was eating low carb and high fat but I was eating way too many calories and had packed on weight because I felt hungry and my mind felt kind of weird like I had problems focusing. I also do not feel right trying to intermittent fast as I prefer to eat 5 small meals a day as opposed to 1 or 2 big ones. I do not think that carbs are the root of all evil when it comes to people being fat. A lot of vegetables have carbohydrates, fruits have carbohydrates, brown rice and plain oatmeal have carbohydrates. I lost weight eating those. Now I will say that added sugar to things I tend to avoid since it makes me feel hungrier but have not had a problem with eating fruit or foods high in carbohydrates. I think that keto can work for people because they feel more satiated and they like the foods they are eating and it helps them not eat crazy amounts of food that they cannot burn off, but for me it didn't seem to work since I didn't enjoy eating avocados or egg yolks or a bunch of nuts or red meats. I think that it is perfectly healthy to stick with something that keeps you lean and is something that you can sustain. Also for me it is easier to round up numbers of calories and track protein than to look around a store and find foods that have next to no carbs and then be like "oh that has 5 carbs and that would put me out of ketosis since I can only have 50g." Now if that works for someone it works, but it is not the only way. Eating fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and things like plain oatmeal is working for me. I don't know it seems like all these videos that I get in my feed basically say my way of eating is wrong and that I should be fat but it just doesn't seem to be the case. I am not saying that because I lost weight eating carbs that it is the right way. I am just saying that I got myself into a calorie deficit while increasing my carbs and protein and eating low fat and sugar and that worked for me. If keto works for you, keep doing it, but I don't like seeing that mentality of everything that isn't what I do is the wrong way to do things.
I just started a low carb diet and this really helps me to see the importance of making this a way of life and I’m throwing away all my artificial sweeteners. I love the way you have explained this. Thanks so much!
Amazing presentation!! Simple and precise. Now we know the facts. In a world with this much information, being ignorant is nothing but a choice. Congratulations DR. MASON, this was superbly done!! Thanks.
I 100% agree with everything said but am sorry that first picture of his client was not hitting the gym twice a day religiously and incorporating intense cardio classes.....
I'm on it for a week. I started parallel with a friend (not as a contest, but we had the same idea at the same time). I never felt better for so long. I have really no intention to go back. The only issue was with the vaccine I got last week. I'm glad it's over and I can move on. I'm really not sure if it's a good idea to vaccinate when you just started changing your diet.
This Doctor Just ROCKS !!! This video initiated additional research and I have discovered just how amazing Dr. Mason is. Thank you I have now started Keto and am confident I can lose the 22 Kilos I need to be gone. :)
Fantastic. Great information. I've only recently started a keto diet and I'm already seeing results. It's great to see how and why it all works and gives me a lot of inspiration.
Thank you Dr. Mason for the incredible and convincing data from your patients! More data from humans will definitely make the cases much more convincing! I'm bringing this message to the Chinese community!
Thanks for your coverage. I've been low 20 or less for 5 months if lost about 30 lbs. 71 y/o and started at 268. I was scarred into the diet from having a 166 Glucose number. Feel good.
Hey I’m back from 3 years ago. Stayed on low carb and lost a few things. My earlier beginning weight was 268 and this week I’ve been near 168 above and below it. I also lost high blood pressure (no medicine)and triglycerides went down to good(no medicine) I lost me pre diabetes diagnosis and that’s the big one for me. I’ve got about 15 or 20 pounds before I’m perfect and that’s OK right now I’m working on puffing up muscles for my 75th birthday. I just can’t believe that people have to take medicine for all the stuff and that’s mainly because the doctor won’t suggest anything else I suppose we can’t all go to Australia for healthcare. I would if I could, haven’t been there since R&r 1965 or 66.
I think my favorite thing about eating keto is once in a while I enjoy pizza, ice cream/sweets, or just a big meal of carbs with friends/family...and I gain water weight and make my muscles look huge the next day from it. Once eating back on keto the next day and drinking a lot of water. I release all that water weight and keep my muscle pump size for a few more days and feel great. Literally is the best thing
@@mariafotiou4134 i really feel like keto vs low carb is a misnomer. food coma is insulin, sugar crash is insulin. you can eat carbs, just not very much or it becomes a high carb diet. why dont people focus on food coma, sugar crash, bloating, as serious as you are considering them in 'cheating' on a keto diet? seems like these are serious problem, but only when on keto, not on a high carb diet. hmm

Xox .
Wow. I'm in a similar age range, and your story is inspirational. TY 🙂
Very happy for your success, thank you for sharing.
Hi sister vicky good advise ,wat can I used to get rid of Insulin Resistance plz advice
Excellent
It’s true.

Be well.

How are you doing now a year later?
Hi there, curious how the annual checkup went, was it amazing?

Mary

In addition to sugar and starches (which are just sugar), lectins (found in many commonly eaten plants including beans and peas) can also trigger high insulin levels:

Gary Taubes says, 'The world is full of greyhounds who think that if they could get basset hounds to eat and run like they do, they basset hounds would become greyhounds.' He says that because they are lean, because they have never struggled with their weight, they think that if everyone ate and lived as they do, everyone would be lean like them - forgetting that not everyone is the same.
Karma may catch up to them, as many people who are lean without effort in their 20s and 30s often find their weight creeping up by their 40s, 50s, and 60s.

In addition to eating according to government guidelines - a high carbohydrate diet - many chemicals found in increasing levels in the environment, our food, and our bodies can also trigger obesity:

The food economy revolves mostly around carbohydrates and sugar.
Remove the fat, add the sugar/carbs to make it palatable. Incredible that when you read the labels there is added sugar in almost everything!! They know they are using it to addict us. This is like big tobacco back in the 80s.
The PLAN IS INTENTIONAL. SIMPLLEE!
Excellent program. I m a very bad diabetic , insulin resistance, hoping to go very very low carbohydrate? I would love to have good advise from a reputable diabetic for the new way to treat diabetics.
Very true. Profit margins on carbs and sugars are way higher than others
Yes but the agricultural system and sustainability (because of the bees), mean that grains must be part of our diet in this number. Survival of the fittest. Stop teaching people how to be healthy and subconsciously control population... lol what an awful world we live in. So much opportunity

This was an outstanding lecture Dr. Mason. Thank you so much for bucking the trend and trying to get the sugar/fat truth out there.
I started keto 8 months ago. I have lost 60 lbs and feel great. I sometimes only eat once a day, but typically eat twice. My doctor was shocked by how much weight I have lost. Conventional wisdom is wrong.
Actually, if you read Dr. Jason Fung's The Obesity Code, you would realize that conventional wisdom have always been correct, BEFORE Ancel Keys...
My dad lost weight from smoking meth. You should try it its healthy.
Congratulations on the positive changed you have made.
@keith cunningham it puzzles me when people still can't spot an obvious troll.

@@GaryHighFruit Yes, and with your comment it makes even more sense.
@@GaryHighFruit These carbohydrates weren't always a problem. Our changed lifestyle is as much to blame as anything.
I mean no wonder it’s coming off if you don’t eat two days a week 😭
Missing a few meals can not hurt you. Your body was designed to get you through hard times Your body will simply burn off some of the extra weight on it!! Think about what people must of been eating over a hundred years ago. I am 70yrs old, I have more energy , no inflammation, eat all I want in 2 or 3 meals a day. @@niamhbutler5685 if you are eating carbs and sugar and try it, you will be very uncomfortable, it's really not that simple. On keto your body is already living on fats not glucose, but you have to make that transition before you start the fasting

Well done

@@komalthecoolk Did you not look at the chart, protein releases about half the amount of insulin as carbs, and fats are even lower.
On a ketogenic diet, lost weigh, rarely feel hungry, feel fitter and better. Thank you, Dr. Mason for the science underpinning it.
Dr. Paul Mason, you have done an amazing job here by turning a very complex topic into a very simple topic that everyone can understand. Your style of presentation and speech is very clean and powerful. I commend your efforts and thank you for all the work you have done and continue to do. The world is a better place because of you and your continued work.
Fascinating. Absolutely fascinating. I love this doctor. A true healer and teacher.
when i was 18..training for bodybuilding comps..idecided to compete in the under 21s division of Mr Australia..except i had a 36" waist..no definition whatsoever..looked flabby..due to drinking 4 or more lt of milk a day..and lots of other carbs..rice .pasta..potatoes etc..i knew i needed to undergo a total transformation in order to look to be a viable contender..so i went keto for 2 months..lost 6" off my waist and tightened and cut up..and won 1st place..at age 57..after 30 years of alcohol abuse..and ingesting lots and lots of other carbs..even tho i was training 4 or 5 days a week.. i decided to do something about my 48" waist..on top of a 46" chest..and a God awful "physique" repleat with manboobs...i severely cut back on alcohol..was averaging 20 bottles of wine a week..i went keto again..except i ate plenty of green vegies..eggs.. meat..did aerobics..got fit and did interval sprints..much more that i did steady state..took up boxing training..did regular weight training..did NOT switch to lo-fat milk..even drank 300ml bottles of cream for energy!
Amazing video! All general practitioners should be required to watch this.
It is not a diet, it is a way to live your life.

That’s remarkable, good for you! 🙌🏼
Thanks
This is the best video to 'simply' understand how we put on weight. Thank you so much for making it available online.
Try taking vanadium, chromium or bitter melon to reduce insulin resistance. It also reduces cravings too. And cinnamon can help too

Doctors have a protocol they follow. Addressing medical problems through food does not follow their protocol and you’ll get more and more pressure to follow their way.
The clearest, understandable (to me) description of how to live longer and heal yourself nutritionally. I will show this to my doctor.
Here's a link to it:. ruclips.net/video/7nJgHBbEgsE/видео.html
If you're not comfortable clicking on a link, the keywords to find the video are "Dr Jason Fung, fasting as a therapeutic option for weight loss"
I have one more that I'll share, in this one he goes into depth about the conflicts of interest between pharmaceutical companies and nutrition information and how that affects the information we're given, how what we think we know is often not correct and the reasons why.

Again, if you're uncomfortable clicking on a link the keywords for this one are "Dr Jason Fung, CrossFit pharmaceutical conflict of interest"
I hope this is useful, Dr Paul Mason, Dr Jason Fung and Dr Robert Lustig are all excellent speakers and they've all sacrificed in their careers in the name of science and getting information out to the public.
Dr. Berg has helped me, he is a good one.
The all cause mortality is the bottom line and is really an important part of this whole presentation.. So it was great to see he went into that. A meth diet will make you lose weight too, but is it really healthy?
Prevention is better than cure, you're one of those best doctors who are not brain washed ! Good presentation. Thanks a lot for your video.
From Jordan (Middle East) with love. Thank you, Dr. for this lecture.
This is the best explaned and brilliant analysis I've listened so far on hormone response and metabolic disfunction.
This talk is fantastic, I'm so glad I came across it, so clear, great examples, some of my story, thank you so much Dr Paul Mason
It's sad how still, despite all medical evidence, so many doctors are still recommending low (saturated) fat diets.
Same thing happened to me.Paul just keeps telling me to eat more salt!
I absolutely love how happy this guy is.
This is actually a very very well constructed talk. The diagrams and explanatios were clear and concise. Thank you.
Quite simply the best and most expertly explained theory on Insulin resistance and "Why" it is detrimental to the body. Thank you so much!!
Great presentation, Dr mason .
Thank you.
Thank you! This is hands down one of the best, easiest to understand explanations of Insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes I have ever seen.
Brilliant explanation of mainstream diet problems to the lay person.
I have been researching low carb, keto etc for weeks and this is the most interesting, thought provoking video Iv'e seen.
Bravo Dr Mason!
This is one of the best and clearest explanations of a low carb diet that I've seen
I went low carb on Nov 30th 2021. I also do intermittent fasting.
1) lost about 1 stone in weight,but I wasn't really much overweight.
4) blood pressure is better
5) I used to get regular headaches that would often become migraines.
Brilliant. I could listen to this guy all day. Crystal clear presentation and backed up with Data. I'm converted.

But other than the bloating do you have any pain or discomfort or headaches etc when you cheat on your keto diet?
Yeah that sounds great until of course you become insulin resistant because of all the sugar and then you'll have to stop carbs altogether. well done.
@@mariafotiou4134 i really feel like keto vs low carb is a misnomer. food coma is insulin, sugar crash is insulin. you can eat carbs, just not very much or it becomes a high carb diet. why dont people focus on food coma, sugar crash, bloating, as serious as you are considering them in 'cheating' on a keto diet? seems like these are serious problem, but only when on keto, not on a high carb diet. hmm
I'm really thankful to my friend to suggest this video and really hats of Dr. Paul..you gave use million dollar knowledge in free ❤️❤️
