    Time to fix the exhaust using an old and trust method, when all else fails. Sort the centre stand out, as I cant be trusted with paddock stands and to break out the welding, and show you just how naturally gifted I am...

      Thanks :) have run a second lot, and the last couple were less splatters, and more of a bead. RUclips has some great instructional videos, but unlike the other stuff I tried, this is a lot more tactile, you only learn by doing it, watching someone else do it, is ok, but of limited value. Enjoying it, and looking forward to getting better. Take care Dave.

      Cheers, lost a bit of faith in the gun gum solution, as I said, used two of there products, and was warned the tend to blow through fairly quickly and both were rubbish. The beer can solution is good enough, and bang on budget, obviously would of preferred Guinness, but the 10 year olds round our way, prefer larger lol

      i've done the same and yes you are right with the rap and gum they just don't last, I once used beer cans for air filters on the carbs on my old cb900.
      they didn't go to plan lol but did look good for the day till I lost two on the first trip out, oh the good old days
      ive gone big like your pan now bud and got a trophy ready for some touring next week as we are both off, just got to plan where to go

      Surprising just how bloody good those larger bikes are, I was looking for a Trophy when I found the Pan. The only things that put me off, were the price of the Trophy was a couple of grand more than the Pan and I just didn't have the money at the time, , they tended to have higher mileage, and in my experience the Triumph can suffer with the old electrics. Good luck with the touring, they are mile munchers for sure.

    Love the use of the spanner, Try to keep your rod around 45 degrees to what you want to weld. Try to "stroke" the rod and not jab it. keep the arc length short, we all had to start somewhere mate. Keep it up and ride safe

      Cheers, tried this last night with better success... so think I aske din the previous comment, i'm using 6013, and burning through the rods, which makes keeping the arc length interesting. So trying to keep the same distance between the end of the rod and the material, whien the material disappears so quick is normal, and just part of the learning process?

    • @whoamiuk1
      @whoamiuk1 6 лет назад +1

      yes with rods you hve to keep your hand moving to keep the arc the same. With rods today you can even just lay the rod on the work and drag it along that may be a little easer for you. Like i said in FB you can cut the rod down in half to help stop it moving around so much as you hole the grip also try not to grit it to hard even just let it lay in your hand if you can, If i was there i could show you a few tricks ;-)

      Cheers, was hoping that was normal, suppose that's where the duty cycle comes in, if your burning rod after rod, that % creeps up. When I look at duty cycles, its based on the maximum amps applied, so 60% is 6 minutes at max amps, but that duty cycle increases the lower the % of amps being applied? So 200amp welder maxed out, system is going to shut down after 6 minutes of continual use, but if I lower to 140amps, it could be 90% duty cycle?

      It is rear that a hobbyist would over heat a welder but you do have a cut-out to keep it from damaging your welder, As a welder even i do not welds that last over a min however i do do lots of shorter welds that make everything get hot. If you think about it you are "short-circuiting" through a rod so everything heats up. For the most you will get worm before you have to stop to get what ever you need for the next weld. Like your PC CPU work it hard it heats up quick like it render a vid or playing a game on full ress, wile watching a vid it just stays cooler so the lower amps the longer you can weld for.

    Love your steam punk, Heath Robinson solutions 👌🏼😃 I used to be good at welding years ago, but probably crap now. Practice makes less pigeon shit welds 🤣👍🏼😃👍🏼

      What, and miss an opportunity, to not have to pay the silly prices Yamaha charge for parts :) I have a drawer full of imperial spanners, and if it saves me money it's all good. She was never going to be a show pony, she's a cracking run around though.
