personally for me canon looks more warm to the eye and sony feels sharp and dry (from my monitor). but unfortunately this video does not cover the low light situation which i guess sony is the absolute win
I just use my smartphone as a display and a adapter for audio then I can carry my phone about ten feet away before it starts getting laggy I can to make sure it's focusing and even get live audio to see if it is working
If you're into vlogging, being a youtuber, that flip screen is a must! I had a A5100, good camera, except it doesn't have a hotshoe to mount anything on, and no microphone port.... Time to switch to M50 then
Great video! I found your channel because I've been looking at the M50 as my starter camera. Still haven't gotten it yet... but I am saving up, and hopefully I will have one by the end of this summer. Thanks for making really cool content. Honestly, it's not far off from the kind of content I would like to make so I take your videos as inspiration as well!
Viltrox is suppose to be releasing a focal reducer/speed booster for ef to ef-m. That really opens up ef lens options for the full frame look on an M body. Plus we would have native auto focusing so there would be no issues there unlike ef to e-mount focal reducers/speed boosters currently on the market.
you saying M50 > A6000. just because it has built LCD, and do good exposure in sunlight. well, photography works that. but you are giving away the LOW-LIGHT Ability and AUTOFOCUS. If you're into videography, A6000 is the winner b/ the two. for me.
I'm saying the M50 > A6000 because its way more user friendly, gives an awesome iamge, and has class leading autofocus. I think the A6000 is a great camera too but its not as good for me.
You already r producing good quality footage, But if you ask. let us assume you got enough budget to spend on lense as well. Advancement M50 wins, but Quality wise, I'd choose A6000 with a good OSS lens, Which has way better Focus AI, even if it is 4-5years older. In Videography you need those Fast shutter and higher ISO.
Hey Tedd, I remember in at least one video you stated that you were not much of a camera person, and that the information you were giving mattered to someone, perhaps some photographer person, however, ever since then I have heard you talk about cameras and their specs with quite a bit of knowledge... so I wondered since, was he simply joking around or what's going on?? either way kudos sir! great content and always fun to watch :-)
Yeah I used to not be much of a camera person, but after running this channel for over a year and a half I've become enamoured with them. I still dont know much about photography but I love cameras for video 👍
Very well explained, just got the M50 and don't regret a cent. Used friend's Sony A6000 for a couple of videos, was too much of a hassle for a beginner like me. Canon M50 is all too easy.....
Ive own a6000, and i just sold it after using it for years.. its a good camera, fast, autofocus and pocket friendly.. but i just cant help with the image quality (photo specially). It's just bad :( My sister bought m50 and the video and imagequality just so so sooo much better.. so im switching to m50.. just saying my opinion, maybe can help someone out there :D a6000 is good camera tho
@VBZ sorry for late reply, i don't think it is. Theres so many mirrorless now that offer greater quality over a6000, its just old. Don't even mention the settings interface.
I think that flip out screen is a big deal. Having an audio jack is also a big plus. Yes, I have recorded audio separately. Not a fan. One and done! You sold me. Thanks
Always depends on use. For video canon is sure winner but for stills, sony has the quality, if not better, and the big bang for the buck. I don't use video, why spend more on specs I don't use?
3:20 - what about streaming picture to the phone? Also, about audio... you still need to record it with lav mic, so it's not really a big difference where you jack it in, BUT if you're using a separate recorder, you can monitor it more easily (not to saying, you don't need to worry about the lenght of the wire). Overall, A6000 can be MUCH MORE mobile, than m50 :). I've seen productions that recorded audio to the phone and it's the thing you have already, so not really a deal breaker. I'm a long-time canon user.
Thanks for this. Even though I am probably going to buy the M50, I think that the A6000 was sharper, and that it handled the extremes of sunlight and shadow much better than the M50.
I need to connect the M50 to a power and don't want batteries. Can i do that? Is there a charging cable for the M50 that makes it don't need Batteries or change it every couple of hours. I do very long recording thats why am asking. Please help me
Great video except for the Sony a6000 is over exposed in every shot. Is this because the camera has a slightly bigger sensor? Thanks for the insight on both cameras pros and cons!!👍🏻
It's actually the other way around. If any of the footage is overexposed it's the m50. That just comes from trying to match two cameras together. You can always stop down the camera or use nd filters to make sure everything is exposed correctly.
help me choose which one should I buy used, M50 or a6000? Found deals here at my country, both of them with accessories, sold for the same price of $400
If both A5100 and A6000 lack audio-in... but one of them has a flip-screen... Then why not test the one with the flip-screen? When one of the opening premises of your video is about large rig needed due to lack of flip-screen? That is not some solid logic going on there! It's inconsistent thought processing
If you aren't really planning to take videos and just take photos which would be better? I was advised by a sales assistant that the canon one is faster but I was drawn to the screen of the sony one. I'll probably only take pictures while travelling .
I will be using the camera for makeup videos so I need the camera to focus while I move away or closer to the camera and also to take pictures of my eyes like really close. I understand the three differences between the cameras are the flip screen, microphone jack and 4k video but today I went to see both cameras and the Sony’s image quality was crazy good for eye shots, just didn’t get to test the video but it had a 50mm lens while the Canon had a 45mm lens that didn’t seem to focus too well like my eyebrows, just my eyes. In the Sony, it focused my eye and everything around my eye so well. Idk much about cameras, can this be the lens? I’m so confused on what camera to buy.
That’s more of a lens thing then a camera thing. Lenses have a minimum focusing distance so that 50mm might have been a macro lens. The efm line does have a nice macro lens so the difference would be what features of the body itself do you need?
Also, the flipping screen does come in handy for selfies and making sure I am in focus. The microphone jack I can work around with the Sony A6000 but the flip screen is a con. The 4k for me is not that necessary since I will be indoor, not alot of action will take place. Just need good quality to catch attention.
Now that the Sony A6100 is out, would you still recommend the Canon M50? I’m trying to record cooking videos, so not vlogging but I also won’t be behind the camera much
I've just got an M50 - for a lot of the reasons you mention. The problem I am having to the extent I am thinking of returning it. I have the F4 11-22mm for the wide angle - but it's difficult to vlog with it well as it's a disaster inside and I have daylight rated bulbs! At the moment I can't get it to work in a way that wouldn't mean needing to swtich lenses just because I'd walked into a store :) Maybe I am doing something wrong. I realise you can the F2 22mm, etc, but it would make it challenging. Note I know people who vlog with the 10mm-18mm and it works fine (not really dark, but relatively well lit stores) tests of M50 can't persuade me that would be the case.
I’m stuck on what camera is best to get in looking at a canon 80D or the compact M50 ...I do beauty videos and vlog what’s best and can I add a lens that will blur background on the M50 xx
The M50 is basically a smaller 80d. They do basically the same exact thing. I prefer the M50 because its so much smaller and with the adapter you can get the exact same lenses on the M50.
Very good comparison, you did convinced me to get m50 over sony. I've used sony a6400 for work and it really is a pain setting up everything. I'm now planning on getting M50 for my personal use over A6000 series.
So if the flippy screen isnt a big deal for you which one would you recommend ? Trying to find a replacement for my oly em1 ..... a camera that i literally cant even give away let alone sell lol
I shoot allot of Stadium action Video. Some day, but mostly night with stadium lighting. I shoot both from ground level as well as skybox level. Which of the two do you recommend for this kind of shooting?
It's clear you are a Canon fan boy now! What's next you will release an unbiased video waxing poetic about a Nikon.... Oh who am I kidding no one would do that. Kidding of course, thanks for the video. Both cameras that have their usefulness.
Ha! The only canon camera I could imagine using in the m50. The 5d iv is super expensive and too unruly of a codec, the 1dx ii is huge and very expensive. So I'll probably stick with what I've got 😂
The Everyday Dad I joke a lot about camera gear but in the end they are a tool to do a job. Use a hammer when you need a hammer no matter if it’s husky brand or Stanley.
Omg it's so hard to choose one of these cameras!!!! I still don't know which will be better for Street Photography...from one hand Canon m50 has a really good photos but it's really bad in low light, but the sony a6000 is better in low light + it has bigger options for lenses......I just need help with it :(
You're making me want to sell my brand new A6500 and Zeiss lens, and take at least a $500 loss to get the M50. I believe you did the same thing, was it a good idea?
It depends on what you need the camera for. I have a main camera in the A7iii so I didn't need a great 4k camera. I just wanted something that was small and was super easy to use while capturing 1080p 60fps. If you only have one camera and need 4k I'd stick with the A6500.
It's my first real camera, and the only one i've got, taken less than 20 pictures with it. I don't need 4K, was thinking about recouping some of my money back while it's still worth something, but now i'm thinking i might just keep it -- i am so torn don't know what to do about it.
The thing that keeps me from using either camera from Sony and Canon is the darn 29 min 59 sec continuous recording limit. Not good if you are recording live events (ie. concerts and wedding ceremonies), especially for multicam coverage..
can you do a video on the photography of the canon EOS M50 as a 16 year old i am mainly getting it to use for pictures and i’m a beginner so it’d be nice to know what i’m doing
please dont take this the wrong way.... the only people who care about a flippy out screens are you tube vloggers.... the rest of us & thats probably 99% of all sales (buyers & users) dont give a damn.... all reviews from you tubers are biased based on there own selfish needs for a flippy out screen & really dont represnt the rest of us... nice review & good to see Canon inovating in the mirrorless market at last..looking fwd to seeing the new Nikon mirrorless cameras too..
I disagree, I do think vloggers like the flipout screen but when I make family videos it also helps let me actually be in them. Additionally when doing product filming having a screen that can go to any angle makes it much easier for things that aren't just straight on.
I disagree as well. Im primarily a photographer and when i need to take photos at odd angles which do happen, the flip screen is a lifesaver. I don’t vlog just fyi. So the flip screen does matter when i take photos. However, I respect your opinion and everyone has different needs when it comes to cameras.
i found the full articulating screen on my former canon dslr ok but it didnt have any movement up or down only side to side so was no good for getting low angle on the groundshots , the sony screen is a lot better as it has movement up & down for low angle or raising your camera up high above you.,.. I think if a camera company could combine the 2 systems it would keep us all happy ...haha...
I find it helps with a better perspective on some of my shots like a twin reflex lens camera. I prefer it when it comes to pets and young children. Product shots as well. Your comment is quite valid for you. Not me.
And what about the low light performance? I saw some m50 videos with low light and it seems very useful for me, with all that noise in the images. Can you test that in some of your videos? Because if we could not use the camera at night, I don’t know if it’s worth buying
Sony has the superior sensor/ISO performance/focusing points/30% better battery life and undoubtedly takes higher quality stills. Also canon couldn't care less about ef-m mount as they have released about 7 lenses in the last 5 years, sony have however about 40 and climbing fast. Not to mention the huge adapter support to get essentially any lens onto your camera. So if your photography requirements extend to more than taking videos of your own face you might want to think twice about buying an M50
I wish there was a more expensive version of the M50 which doesn't crop 4k. I still don't know what problem cropping is I've not used a proper camera for 10 years.
Firstly thanku for great reviews, have been seeing ur vedios for sometime now . I am a dentist and need a camera to click my work . I need a basic camera with a ring flash and a 100mm macro . I wont be using my camera for vloging or lots of vedios . I am confused between a6000 and m50 . The price difference between the two isn't a lot here . Could u plz help me which one will be a better choice considering I will use the cam for next 5 years. A6000 with kit lens is for 585$ and m50 with kit lens and mount adapter is for 690$ here . Plz help
Hi there all..if u will give me suggestion which has vetter image quality between these two cams? 70percent image 30percent video was the ratio. To me.which is better? Thankyou
The main issue here is the A6000 is a stills camera you are trying to push into a video camera just because it can do light video things. I ask a Sony Rep and they (Sony) considers ALL there A7 line and A6 line of cameras to be Stills camera First and foremost even though they offer great video features. His words was that is why they offer the FS5 and FS7 for interchangeable lens video systems and a great line of Camcorder for all in one solutions.
M50 nails all the feature a vlogger will needs such as flip screen, audio input jack, and great af. If only it not advertised as 4k camera while performing like a shit in 4k, this camera will not be bashed that harshly by the internet.
I think the main advantageous of EF-M vs Sony E mount are 22mm and 11-22mm lenses. They are so much cheaper than the equivalent Sony wide zoom and primes.
The A6000 is a 2014 camera but still very good for today. It's autofocus is awesome and if you think in a professional way the operator is always behind the camera, will use external monitor and external sound recording. The M50 is better for youtubers, this kind of comparisson is just good entertainment. I really like the A6000, and would be really good if it had picture profiles and mic jack but also for what I do I would pick the Canon M50.
Canon vs Sony! Camera battle! Ultimate test! Big words, but in the end the whole "test" is simply based around the known fact that the Sony doesn't have the 360-degree rotatable display. Thank you, very informative.
You kept saying the Sony was less expensive and even said half the price of the M50. Don’t know where you are finding your pricing but both sell for around $600 in my area. In fact Best Buy has it for $569 and the Sony for $549. - both with kit lens.
I bought the M50 for $799 and the A6000 for $499, making it about half the price. Obviously prices fluctuate a lot depending on where you purchase and different deals at the time.
The kit lens that comes with the A6000 is absolutely hell to work with. My friend had one that was constantly breaking and needed to be fixed. There's some plastic peice in it that is fragile as hell and just frustrating
I’m trying to find my first vlogging camera & your really convincing me on the canon m50 , Bc I deff need a camera that has great focus , flip screen and good audio or at least an inject. So Thank you!!😁🙌🏽
was about to get the a6000 but since my friend just bought the a5000 and the menus and interface is horrible and plays badly with old glass I'm again on the canon wagon. I have to say that I own the canon 600d and the eos m, the m50 looks like their baby. can't wait to get one
Uhm the a6000 has a wireless remote mode you can use with your phone wirelessly. Gives full manual controls and tap to focus. All points in this video seems to play towards the Canon's strengths. Mic Jack is the only con.
Mic jack, screen, and overheating.
And yes you can use the phone app but phone apps in my opinion are such a pain to work I generally don’t bother.
The Everyday Dad it's a point of view. If you want do vlog got an a5100 or the new a6400.
Am I the only one that notices the Sony A6000 is a 1000x better (image quality) than the Canon M50? Is it some bad setting or something?
I like the settings of canon m50 which makes him look good and the exposure is really nice and bright unlike the sony its kinda dark.
Yes
@@shandysally7126 But isn't that more natural?

easy to use or image quality? wich one you need? m50 easy for vlogging, a6000 1000x good image quality for photography specialy for low light.
Just got my m50 and I absolutely love it
Thats awesome! I hope it really works out for you!
Queen Awesome Gaming how’s image quality
How is it in low light?
I hate my M50. It sucks for low-light. 4K is heavily cropped. And you can't get clean HDMI out if you want to use OBS.
I just use my smartphone as a display and a adapter for audio then I can carry my phone about ten feet away before it starts getting laggy I can to make sure it's focusing and even get live audio to see if it is working
most of your shots were overexposed. its hard to tell the differernce in imgge quality when all your shots are overexposed.
That's True!

So if the flippy screen isnt a big deal for you which one would you recommend ? Trying to find a replacement for my oly em1 ..... a camera that i literally cant even give away let alone sell lol
I want to start videos for you tube. Should I do Sony a6300 or sony a6000 or Canon m50
İf you need image (photo) quality, Sony is better and better...
Ohhh, my mind its going crazy,, i dont know what the cam i just buy..
Same to me🤔🤔🤔
Pfff of low light Sony A6000 detroyed of this Canon M50 !!!
for the m50 ive been told lenses are very limited. can i just get an adapter to get any lense for the m50 ?
sorry but I don't understand your language! could you ultimately be the best of the two cameras to start taking pictures? thanks
I absolutely agree 👍
your a sony fanboy🤣🤣
Omg it's so hard to choose one of these cameras!!!! I still don't know which will be better for Street Photography...from one hand Canon m50 has a really good photos but it's really bad in low light, but the sony a6000 is better in low light + it has bigger options for lenses......I just need help with it :(
a6000 !!
Nicely done video. Having owned the a6000 in the past, I will say I often had it overheat and shutdown on me while recording in 1080p 60p.
Ouch! Yeah thats one of the problems with Sony's, they fit such a huge sensor in such a small body it has an underdeveloped venting solution.
What camera would work best for night/low light photography? I drive cross country and see so many gorgeous sunsets and moon rises
I don't really do photography so I cant really say, sorry.
I don't need 4K, was thinking about recouping some of my money back while it's still worth something, but now i'm thinking i might just keep it -- i am so torn don't know what to do about it.
have you tried using your cellphone as screen mirror to control the camera? it pair with just touching the back of your phone if you have nfc
I just use an adapter to get audio it only takes like 30 seconds to set up
The thing that keeps me from using either camera from Sony and Canon is the darn 29 min 59 sec continuous recording limit. Not good if you are recording live events (ie. concerts and wedding ceremonies), especially for multicam coverage..
I just replaced my Nikon 1 for the M50 and I love it! I’ll be taking it to Japan with me next month!
can you do a video on the photography of the canon EOS M50 as a 16 year old i am mainly getting it to use for pictures and i’m a beginner so it’d be nice to know what i’m doing
Great review as usual!! :)
Thanks so much! 😁👍
M50 it is thanks!
Nice! I definitely like that one better 😁👍
I just want for clicking photos and I don't need for video....which one will be better?
please dont take this the wrong way....
the only people who care about a flippy out screens are you tube vloggers....
the rest of us & thats probably 99% of all sales (buyers & users) dont give a damn....
all reviews from you tubers are biased based on there own selfish needs for a flippy out screen & really dont represnt the rest of us...
nice review & good to see Canon inovating in the mirrorless market at last..looking fwd to seeing the new Nikon mirrorless cameras too..
100% of all Cell phones allows you to do selfies by allowing you to view the screen while facing the lens...
The illustrations were awesome!!! Thank you
Sony has the superior sensor/ISO performance/focusing points/30% better battery life and undoubtedly takes higher quality stills.
Well good news! I only make online content so both are great but there are weakness and strengths to each system.
Best choice for music recording and some sort of travel photo?
is it me or the white balance was bad on the image comparison on the sony camera ??
Hi and greetings from Greece. You think the Canon M50 or the A6000 is a better camera for photography to buy?
a6000 !!
Canon m50 wins the review.. Thank you!
hello, to make cinematic videos which is better the m50 or the a6000?
how about Canon m50 vs Sony a6500? Which one is your best choice?
Plz help
You should state only for video graphy because you didnt say anything about stills
M50 dynamic range got memed lol
Hi there all..if u will give me suggestion which has vetter image quality between these two cams?
70percent image 30percent video was the ratio. To me.which is better? Thankyou
Sony 16-50Mm Power zoom lens will it fit for M200???
Is that the mark II?
what about A6100???
I think the main advantageous of EF-M vs Sony E mount are 22mm and 11-22mm lenses. They are so much cheaper than the equivalent Sony wide zoom and primes.
The A6000 is a 2014 camera but still very good for today. It's autofocus is awesome and if you think in a professional way the operator is always behind the camera, will use external monitor and external sound recording. The M50 is better for youtubers, this kind of comparisson is just good entertainment. I really like the A6000, and would be really good if it had picture profiles and mic jack but also for what I do I would pick the Canon M50.
Dude, how many videos do you have on that camera? ....
Wel donesky. I see you have a slight hill in the backyard...M50 is still favorable for me but normal 4k would be nice if I am upgrading for 4k.
Just a bit 😂
If you want 4k then you need the sonys with a monitor. Or a gh5 if you can work around the autofocus issue.
Sorry, what's the song that is playing at the background of the video in the beginning ???
The fact that a6000 can still compete with the lastest camera from other brand is a prove how good a6000 is lmao
Yeah I think its one of the best selling cameras of all time. It really put Sony on the map.
I’m trying to find my first vlogging camera & your really convincing me on the canon m50 , Bc I deff need a camera that has great focus , flip screen and good audio or at least an inject. So Thank you!!😁🙌🏽
I think the M50 is one of the best cameras on the market right now. And for vlogging it might be the best.
@@TheEverydayDad Hi! Do you still recommend the Canon EOS M50 for starting a youtube channel (vlogging)? Thanks and good video :)
If you can review the new 4k camera from canon sx740hs
was about to get the a6000 but since my friend just bought the a5000 and the menus and interface is horrible and plays badly with old glass I'm again on the canon wagon. I have to say that I own the canon 600d and the eos m, the m50 looks like their baby. can't wait to get one
I want comparison between canon m50 vs sony 6100
