@Stan Cravens How can you tell if the vehicle is going straight when backing ? That's the area where I struggle because I can't judge due to the lack of vision of the parking lines when backing.

I’m 52 and never lived anywhere that really needed this skill. But here we are, different city and different ways to do things 🙄😅! Your video was really helpful. I tried it a few times and it works. Thank you!
I passed my driving test. I watched your videos several times, which was really helpful. I have no idea I have to find a reference stop before reverse until your video. I’d appreciate it very much.
As a driving instructor we have different size cars with obviously different reference points. When we teach we get the car thats available for us at that time. Instead of remembering different reference points for different car what would you say is a standard method for any car when backing into a parking space?
Hi I watched this video about 4 months ago for advice on reverse parking, and just today, I passed my road test. Thank you very much for your advice sir!
Thank you!! I have my test today and am just doing a couple little refreshers! This was so easy to follow, I'm shocked you don't havepre views. Wish me luck!
Thank you for sharing both left and right sides. I'd never been shown how to reserve park, although I've been driving for decades. I recently bought my first car and started using our condo's parking garage. However, the spots are quite narrow, and mine is against a wall. I had to go back and forth 20 times to make it work every time I parked, which was not only embarrassing, but took too much time. I finally found your video this morning and was able to park so easily that a woman stopped me afterwards to remark on how impressive my parking is! hahaha! Thank you.
Thank you sir for this. Nobody ever mentioned to me the rule of thumb about which way to turn your steering wheel. I've never driven before and I just had few driving practices with different people. Now I just need to go out there and practice this.
That's the key...just keep practicing. By doing that, you're creating a habit that will stick with you and become automatic when you need to do it. Thank you very much for watching!
Hello, thank you so very much for this tutorial. I backed in once using this reference method, (i practiced countless times to get my reference point) did the test yesterday and passed after 3 fails. My out of country license is now a done deal.... thank God
Just got gifted a 2009 chevy silverado. Im a tiny 5"4' girl. Many people told me (as i soon figured out) youre better off backing into a spot as opposed to going forward. This video was so so helpful!! Thank you :)
Thank you so much, this video has legit inspired me for this weekends drive. I have been going at it for a month and I just bought my first car and boy am I excited.
I used your guide and I got it bang on between the lanes on my first go (coming from someone who's never done a reverse park without some adjustments on the way back). Now to get it done with cars parked in the spots to the side
Ohh thank you. After watching your video and practice. I did my first reverse parking today. I saw many RUclipsrs I didn't understand any of them. Like my algebra class lol. Yours was very easy , detailed. Thank you again!!!!
Very interesting as I'm on driving lessons..I've stored this in my head for when I start doing bay parking..very interesting to watch..also my husband takes me out on a Sunday in his car to practise bay parking in the aldi carpark..I love it..and I will get there..hopefully pass my test this year 2022 😊
Best of luck to you on passing your test! You’re watching videos and practicing this skill, so I’m sure you will do great on your test when the time comes. Thank you for watching this video!
This was good. I been driving for years but never learned to back into spots. I always drive in. This was helpful I’m going to start practicing. Thank you
Congratulations on getting your license! That’s a great feeling. Glad to hear you’re going to practice this skill... it can come in handy sometimes. Take care and drive safe!
I have my driving exam in couple of days and this was really good help. About to go practice some parking with these tips in mind. Really good advice keep it up.
Excellent tutorial! My husband drives an extended cab Ford F350 that I consistently fail to be able to back into a spot, so I just refuse to drive his truck. I’ve checked out your video to see if you have any tips that I’m missing in my brain. I did get two new tips, so I thank you!!!
Sorry, I know it can be frustrating. It does help to take a break from it, and after hours of doing it, I bet you really needed one. The next time you try it, everything might just click for you. It’s often little things we’re doing that throw us off when we’re learning something like this. And remember to try slightly different reference points to see what works best, and be sure you’re turning your steering wheel all the way when you start your backing turn. Best of luck…you really can do this.
I had the exact thing happen the first time. I got my reverse in after like 3 tries then hit the curb while pulling out. I felt like such a dummy and I was stressed that my dad would freak out. I had to wait a month!
Yes, different wheelbases and other factors affect the turning radius of a vehicle making it important to work this out for your specific vehicle. Thanks for watching!
This was really easy to understand and you did it so smoothly compared to other videos i have seen . I'm going to practice in a few hours and tomorrow morning before my road test. I hope i pass.
great explanations and directions! i hate backing up, but like to leave a space going forward. i often park far away from the door so i can "pull through" a spot into a forward position when leaving. to this day i won't back into my parking space at home or work if even one of the neighboring spaces is occupied. i learned to drive much later than most (25). i have two friends in their mid 50's who never learned. i think they are onto something.
Thanks for the video 🙏 It’s been a very horrific story for me😢 I don’t know why I don’t have luck whenever it comes to getting my test it’s either I’m with a bad supervisor or I’m just the one with the problem, I have failed my test thrice now and I was fed up not until I was told to hire a test drive professional who could help me skip the test and get my license which I did and I got my license now.
Oh that’s a very heart touching story , sounds as if we both be in the same shoes I been unlucky twice and I’m actually fed up tbh 😵how can I hire a test drive professional please?
I totally understand but if you don’t mind because I’m not sure I can find one where I am. CAN YOU PLEASE RECOMMEND ME TO YOUR TEST DRIVE PROFESSIONAL?
Thanks for this! I'm looking into parking parallel and reverse parking early so i have a general idea before it comes up in lessons. It's also nice to see my own car being used for something like this :)
I am 38, and have my road test on the 16th. I failed previous tries, and I found you explain this so well! My car is a Ford Focus, so its a bit smaller, but also the frame is a bit higher. I am hoping I can pass now after watching this! (some reason, I can parallel park easier than I can stall park!) Its angles. haha. any further tips?
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment...I appreciate it! I'd just suggest going out and practicing this until you get comfortable with it. The more you complete the maneuver, the more natural and automatic it will feel to you during the test. And I've heard from others also that parallel parking was easier for them than this...everyone had different skill sets. A lot of people would love to be able to parallel park like you can! Best of luck on your test...I'm betting on you doing great!
I have no problems when reverse parking. I do it very easily, but your video and the subtitles helped me improve my English a little bit more, as I'm not a native English speaker :). Thanks Stan.
Lol! Well, I hope it helps...the main thing is just to get plenty of practice and don’t stress over it too much. Practice somewhere that isn’t very busy.
Hello Stan, simplicity personified! great explanation and simple steps. Will you please make a tutorial for parallel parking as well? Thanks in advance!
Driving test tomorrow, got everything down including this but this is the one thing I’m a little worried about. Good luck to everyone taking their tests soon!
@@HowSkills thank you very much Stan! I passed with one mistake and I’m beyond exited. Was so nervous. This video definitely helped for the test. Thanks!
I will have my road test in 2 weeks. So nervous but i just found this video which I think easiest video to understand how to do reverse park. Gotta practice it soon! Thank you!
Good luck on your test…I’m sure you will do well! Practice as much as you can, and then it will come more naturally when you’re actually doing it during the test.
I have my test tmr and I was pretty confident after doing these parking maneuvers with my instructor. I practiced today on a whim with my mom and I ended it in tears and am totally discouraged now. I lost all knowledge of how to reverse into a stall and parallel park. Wish me luck tomorrow I hope I don’t make a fool of myself😭
I don't know how anyone can learn driving by reading the handbook alone.... I NEEDED these videos thank you! It's very detailed, with lots of road views examples, calming tone! Very useful thank you for putting this up.
Thank you Mr. Stan Cravens for your video clip and your tips of reference point. It’s easy to understand and a good point to refer to. Hope I can apply your tips, park reversely and pass the road test to come.
And thank you for taking the time to watch the video! I’m sure you’ll do great on your road test when the time comes since you are watching videos about driving - that shows you care about doing things the right way.
Fantastic explanation. Parking can be nerve-wracking at times but I don't want it to be! I'm probably that driver that's a bit too careful haha. I gotta remember to not be so stiff and relax. You mentioned stopping at the 2nd car; is stopping at the 3rd car too far up? Looking forward to trying your technique!
That depends somewhat on your vehicle and how sharp it can turn. You can try starting from the 3rd car, but you may not want to crank the steering wheel over all the way immediately or you'll probably come up short.
I practised this so much before my license test - and then - I was asked to parallel park, which my instructor for whatever reason, did NOT teach me. It went smoothly though. Just except someone's dog suddenly decided to run between the cars, and "sit" in my spot, just as I was about to manouver the car into place. I mumbled: "yeah doggie, you can sit there until your owner gets to you, we'll keep you safe until then". Got my license in first try, after a very short (and hilarious) test. :) It's all about staying calm, and keeping an eye on what is going on around your vehicle.
Wow your instructions really helped. I used to have to back into my driveway many times. My street has many blind spots with parked cars by the curb. I get it right 50% of the time. Then I moved to HI, on the Hilo side of the Big Island. Most of the locals backs into the parking spot. Never seen anything like that before. My reverse skills got better but still needed a lot of work because my point of reference is never the same lol. Now I’m in Texas and like to continue backing in. Gotta keep practicing until I get it in one shot.
Glad to hear it helped! I’ve heard that it’s pretty common in several European countries that most drivers back in to park. It’s much less common in the United States, but personally, I prefer to back in to park whenever possible. It’s safer to be able to pull directly out from your parking spot than backing out into possible oncoming traffic. Keep practicing and it’ll keep getting easier - you can do it!
Thank you for your teaching so clearly. Reverse parking is my weakness and an instructor shouted at me for not getting it on my third try that;s why i losing my confidence in learning how to drive. but with this video, everything is clearer now. Thank you again :)
Sorry to hear about your experience with your instructor...yelling at a student doesn't help them learn...it makes it harder, in fact. Don't give up on yourself, just keep practicing and studying, and you'll get it. Hang in there!
@@HowSkills I subscribed to your channel to get more knowledge on all I need now and in the future. Never stop teaching ,you are excellent at what you do.
I have my test tomorrow so I am watching this and practicing today, which already this video really helped!! I'll update tomorrow if I end up passing or not.
Question!! You’ve very helpfully pointed out what to do if you are cutting it short, although I was wondering what causes this to happen? Is it because the car is to close/far from the parking lines? Is it how far up the car is?
You can end up cutting it short if you pull too far past your intended parking spot and don’t adjust when you start making your turn. If you’re too far past when you stop and you immediately crank the steering wheel all the way over, you will come up short.
how lucky i am to find this videos and for that i am thankful. Appreciate your nice dedication and patience to teach people how to drive safely. lots of love from DK.
I have a vw beetle that is horrible to back into a spot the traditional way; this video should help me a ton! I'm glad you went over it with a smaller car, because most tutorials don't cover that. I used to drive a dodge durango, which is way bigger than my tiny little buggy 😂
Thanks for taking the time to leave your comment, and I know even smaller cars can be difficult to reverse park depending on the visibility you have. I hope the video helped!
i like it as you sounded very calm and assuring. i am quite a clumsy driver and i have not dare to do much driving in the past 5 days... just need a refresher course like this.
I know it might not seem like a big deal to most Yanks, but thanks for including metric units in your video; it really helps us to visualize and understand what you meant better
How to reverse park:
1. Take a deep breath
2. Pray I do not hit anything
You took a lot less time to explain how to do it than me!

its better than backing out of a parking spot and hitting a person

I passed my driving test. I watched your videos several times, which was really helpful. I have no idea I have to find a reference stop before reverse until your video. I’d appreciate it very much.
Great job! Glad to hear you passed your test. Your hard work and study made it happen. Thank you for watching!
Simple and easy explanation for any person who want to learn how to park his car in a simple way .. great job , your follower from Egypt
Thank you very much for watching - I appreciate it!
This is going to help me to be more confident when I'm driving, excellent explanation, wonderful teacher.
I’ve glad to hear it helped you...thanks for watching!
As a driving instructor we have different size cars with obviously different reference points. When we teach we get the car thats available for us at that time. Instead of remembering different reference points for different car what would you say is a standard method for any car when backing into a parking space?
God bless you for teaching parking in a way people can actually understand, with tips on what to do when corrections are needed.
Thank you, I hope it came across clearly. I appreciate you taking the time to watch it and to comment!
Hi I watched this video about 4 months ago for advice on reverse parking, and just today, I passed my road test. Thank you very much for your advice sir!
This is totally deserving of the 1.5 million views.
Clear, concise instructions. Much appreciated.

You're a life saver! I can now masterfully park in reverse. Thanks Mike Ehrmantraut!
Haha! Love Mike Ehrmantraut, so I’ll gladly take that! Glad to hear it helped.
@@HowSkills Now that only made you cooler! Subbed :D
My out of country license is now a done deal.... thank God
Congratulations on getting the license...well done!
Just got gifted a 2009 chevy silverado. Im a tiny 5"4' girl. Many people told me (as i soon figured out) youre better off backing into a spot as opposed to going forward. This video was so so helpful!! Thank you :)
I'm very glad it helped, and thanks for taking the time to watch it!
Thank you so much, this video has legit inspired me for this weekends drive. I have been going at it for a month and I just bought my first car and boy am I excited.

I have heard this called
Reverse
Perpendicular Parking also.
I used your guide and I got it bang on between the lanes on my first go (coming from someone who's never done a reverse park without some adjustments on the way back). Now to get it done with cars parked in the spots to the side
Glad it went well for you! What that done, I’m sure you’ll do great with parking between other vehicles too.
Got my G2 this week. Hands down this is the best video on the subject of back parking. This works every time.
Glad it helped, and thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!
Ohh thank you. After watching your video and practice. I did my first reverse parking today. I saw many RUclipsrs I didn't understand any of them. Like my algebra class lol. Yours was very easy , detailed. Thank you again!!!!

Did my drive test today and passed. Had to come back here and thank you for the great job you do
That’s awesome!! Really glad to hear you passed…all your studying and practice paid off. It was all you, Joan!
Excellent tutorial! My husband drives an extended cab Ford F350 that I consistently fail to be able to back into a spot, so I just refuse to drive his truck. I’ve checked out your video to see if you have any tips that I’m missing in my brain. I did get two new tips, so I thank you!!!
Awesome! Glad to hear it helped. Big trucks definitely present a challenge when backing, but you’ll get there!
Practiced this for hours today and ended in tears. Thanks for the help, hope i pass my test in 3 days
I'm glad you did it with a second vehicle explaining not all vehicles will be the same, ty
Yes, different wheelbases and other factors affect the turning radius of a vehicle making it important to work this out for your specific vehicle. Thanks for watching!
you are a god send thank you i’m stressing out so bad for my test tmr
I’m three years late but same!! I’m soo scared for the parking portion 🥲
@Alli_B96 Never too late! Keep practicing🙂
This was really easy to understand and you did it so smoothly compared to other videos i have seen . I'm going to practice in a few hours and tomorrow morning before my road test. I hope i pass.
Update! I passed !- I practiced a lot but I was able to get it thanks to this video.
great explanations and directions! i hate backing up, but like to leave a space going forward. i often park far away from the door so i can "pull through" a spot into a forward position when leaving. to this day i won't back into my parking space at home or work if even one of the neighboring spaces is occupied. i learned to drive much later than most (25). i have two friends in their mid 50's who never learned. i think they are onto something.
I also like to park so I can "pull through" a spot whenever I can! Pretty convenient and easy.
Thanks for the video 🙏
It’s been a very horrific story for me😢 I don’t know why I don’t have luck whenever it comes to getting my test it’s either I’m with a bad supervisor or I’m just the one with the problem, I have failed my test thrice now and I was fed up not until I was told to hire a test drive professional who could help me skip the test and get my license which I did and I got my license now.
Glad to hear that you have your license now and all the bad experiences are behind you!
Oh that’s a very heart touching story , sounds as if we both be in the same shoes I been unlucky twice and I’m actually fed up tbh 😵how can I hire a test drive professional please?
I’m hoping to hear from you soon
Well like I said earlier I hired, do the best thing is for you to check your environment and hire one...
Love it that we have the same car! Good luck with your upcoming lessons...I'm sure you'll do great.

Stan Cravens oh I see. For some perspective I’ll be using an SUV, BMW X3. Thanks for the tip, I’ll try not to crank it all the way immediately.
Sounds like you had the right attitude and did a great job on the test!

Best of luck on your test, and I'd definitely like to know how it went! I'm predicting you'll do well.
Thank you so much Stan, I just did my test and needed to reverse into the parking spot. Did it perfectly!
That is awesome! Great job, and glad to hear it went so well.
