I created another slower gear between 1st and reverse. Cut an appropriately sized notch in the gear deck and adjusted the rod to match. It was possible because Ariens newer gear decks are different than what was seen in this video. Used a dremel.
@@brandon_burbach The gear notch deck on an 2019? Ariens runs horizontal, right to left. For each gear is simply a notch in the steel deck which sits the spring loaded lever. My speed selector lever can move left to right like nothing i am supposed to hear a thud if i turn it all the way to the right i do it nothing .. the machine is 3 years old used twice
The "all the way down" trick depends of the year/model. Owners should read their manual before adjusting their snowblower as shown. As an exemple, on model 921044 you should adjust the pivot pin with 7 turns from "all the way down". It still work that way, but fwd will be too fast and reverse will be too slow. 921032 model is the same year as 921044 and should be set all the way down.
Hello I’m new to your channel and find it very interesting and most definitely helpful. You have stated in a couple of your videos that you live in Buffalo area. I also live in the area, Cheektowaga to be more precise. I have a couple of questions about my😅 Ariel’s deluxe 30-in 306cc EFI: 1 - ever since the Christmas blizzard, it seems that the “automatic” auger hold down lever stopped working. It used to be that when I engaged the auger lever and then I engaged the traction lever I was able to remove my grip from the auger lever and it would stay engaged. This does not seem to happen anymore. 2 - it seems as if the lever for the shoot position is slightly out of wack. When I need to position the shoot to a full 90 degrees, I need to “kind of push all the way and twist the lever” for it to catch in the appropriate notch. A lot of times because it doesn’t seem to seat right, the lever will pop out of the slot Sorry for the lengthy comment but if anyone can help I know it will be you Thanks in advance Coach 0:09
Hey coach, 1. It sounds like the linkage underneath the control deck connecting the two levers is having issues. I did a video on this on an older model last year. I doubt it’s much different now. For 2 are you talking about the chute crank or the chute deflector lever? Thanks for watching
@@coachg612 ok there should be a lever bolt at the end of a spring underneath the dash for that lever. Tighten that down a little and it should stay in place. 👍
The manual for my 2014 Ariens Deluxe 24-921024 says it needs to be 7 full turns up the rod from where the Pivot Pin plugs into the Speed Selector Arm while its in 6th gear. It says (quoting the manual) >>> "Thread adjustment pivot pin along shift rod until it aligns with the mating hole on the speed selector arm, and then turn it up the shift rod 7 turns. Re-insert pivot pin into the hole." This is contrary to what @bravoone3823 said down below in the comments. My owners manual says this method of adjustment is for models #921024, #921030 and #921044. Question >>> any harm in having a loose cable for the left lever? I see yours is loose too, in your video. It tightens up (via the spring) when the lever is depressed, but how loose should the cable be?
Hey Dean, this procedure may vary from model to model that’s why I tell people to check their manual. The cable should have a little slack in it. Once I push the lever down it pulls up on that spring so it’s tight when in use. Just a little slack is all you need. Thanks for watching
@ yea leveled it and it improved. Lots of lessons learned ( don’t take the bolts off the body unless you want to spend the rest of the afternoon figuring out how to get it reconnected 😆)
Did it for the Theatrics! Lol! Had to put mine way out to show how it would reverse itself in first gear.. all is good though! Thanks for looking out for my machine.👍
Hey biggie! I typically use ratchet straps and tie them down around the base of the chute and then to the handle bars to lower tie down cleats. Works well and won’t move.
How about a brand new 30" Ariens that bogs down in a few inches of snow and the engine won't run fast enough? P.S. All setting are correct and we have fresh gas.
worked like a charm..... disconnected arm, pulled chasis gear lever all the way up (instead of down), put gear change lever into slowest reverse & adjusted threaded doohicky to align with lever & reassembled (with a washer between the arm & the other thingy you push through the hole - someday to be replaced by a bent nail when it rusts out...) as there was too much play.... apologies for the high tech terminology....
@@GarageGear i did the belt came off the spring is still there i had a random bolt with a washer on it that was found in the transmission area. Hmmm, mine only has 1 reverse gear and 3 forward speeds, but in as much as 1st gear barely moves it at all, I may see if this will work on my 10M4 ST424 :)
See if it works for you

Would you service Ariens snowblower’s for a friend in WNY? 😊 If not do you have any recommendations for a good shop?
Hey John I only work on my own machines! Schaub in west Seneca is good place to go! Thanks for reaching out!
@@GarageGear excellent thanks !
My new Ariens deluxe 28 moves to fast in first gear. Is this how you would adjust the speed? The dealer told me this is normal for an Ariens. because it was tested before leaving the shop. This is my third snowblower in the last 40 years this is the first one than runs like my Craftsman did in 4th gear.😅
Yes this is how you adjust the speed. Make your adjustments and let me know how it goes .

Did you know that that the engine maker LCT bought out the remaining assets of Tecumseh engines back in the day? That means LCT engines have some of Tecumseh’s designs and concepts in them. No wonder they are such good engines.
Thanks for sharing BCSERK! Any snow heading your way? 👍
Where did you learn all this from?

Any video or tips on adjusting the plate that engages the friction disc
You really can’t adjust the friction disc. You can replace it and then adjust your speed.
My chute deflector handel on dash won't stay in the selected upper grooves on my Deluxe 30'
Hey rical! Did you try tightening the spring on the bottom the lever. This helps hold it in place. Perhaps yours is too loose. Thanks for watching!
Yes, I did but will look at it again. Thank's for your reply
so mine is almost straight up and down.. not sure why. I just checked it and paused it at the "push it down all the way" spot. She moves just fine and runs fine except when I hit the auger lever. Then it does the uggg ugg ugg.
I did exactly what you demonstrated and now my reverse goes forward. I had to pull the lower arm upward a bit to make reverse work.
Sounds like you may have over adjusted it. I would continue to thread it up or down depending on where you’re at until you get it right.
My speed selector lever can move left to right like nothing i am supposed to hear a thud if i turn it all the way to the right i do it nothing .. the machine is 3 years old used twice
Hey Orlando I would check your belts and friction disc to make sure everything is in order!
Another good video.
GO BILLS 🏈🏈🏈🏈
Thanks Tom! Appreciate you bud! GO BILLS!👍
Thanks for sharing bravo!
Excellent video as usual Go Bills !!
Appreciate you Andy! Thanks for watching
Could this work on a Husqavarna model?
You’d have to check the linkage on your model but I’m willing to bet they have something similar going on. Thanks for watching Joe!

Hello
I’m new to your channel and find it very interesting and most definitely helpful. You have stated in a couple of your videos that you live in Buffalo area. I also live in the area, Cheektowaga to be more precise.
I have a couple of questions about my😅 Ariel’s deluxe 30-in 306cc EFI:
1 - ever since the Christmas blizzard, it seems that the “automatic” auger hold down lever stopped working.
A lot of times because it doesn’t seem to seat right, the lever will pop out of the slot
Sorry for the lengthy comment but if anyone can help I know it will be you
Thanks in advance
Coach 0:09
Hey coach, 1. It sounds like the linkage underneath the control deck connecting the two levers is having issues. I did a video on this on an older model last year. I doubt it’s much different now.
For 2 are you talking about the chute crank or the chute deflector lever?
Thanks for watching
Chute defector lever
Holy crap I got the same hat.
Awesome hat! 👍👍
What if the blower is lapsided? Or going to
One side ?
I would check your skids under the augers to make sure they’re set equally. Also check your tire pressure.
@ yea leveled it and it improved. Lots of lessons learned ( don’t take the bolts off the body unless you want to spend the rest of the afternoon figuring out how to get it reconnected 😆)
@@88omarz oh yeah it can get confusing! 👍
How come the drive selector on your machine was so many turns off?
Did it for the Theatrics! Lol! Had to put mine way out to show how it would reverse itself in first gear.. all is good though! Thanks for looking out for my machine.👍
@@GarageGear sorry for giving myself a backstage pass and ruining the secrets. 😂
Hey JB. I was wondering can you show how to properly secure a snowblower when howling in a pickup truck?
Hey biggie! I typically use ratchet straps and tie them down around the base of the chute and then to the handle bars to lower tie down cleats. Works well and won’t move.
Gear 6? Damn rocket ship. Ha. Thanks for the tips
You got it my friend! Thing flys now! Thanks for watching!
Do you have a video for a Craftsman blower speed adjustment ? Looks very similar .
Not at the moment but I suppose I could put one together!
How about a brand new 30" Ariens that bogs down in a few inches of snow and the engine won't run fast enough? P.S. All setting are correct and we have fresh gas.
I ouellette check your throttle and carburetor assembly. Sounds like your issue can be there.
Oh, @ GO BILLS!!
GO BILLS! 👍👍
What do you do if the machine will not go in reverse, but goes forward fine?
This video will show you how to adjust your machine back to proper working order.
@@GarageGear I have watch this video. I have a ST1028 different model. Thank for the reply.
@@ld8258 ok I wonder if your adjustment bolt is up under your dash. I’d have to see it in person.
@@GarageGear Thank you for the reply. I'm going to my manual.
@@ld8258 sounds like a good plan! 👍
tried it but reverse still doesnt move.
gonna try the opposite....
will comment after results...
worked like a charm.....
disconnected arm, pulled chasis gear lever all the way up (instead of down), put gear change lever into slowest reverse & adjusted threaded doohicky to align with lever & reassembled (with a washer between the arm & the other thingy you push through the hole - someday to be replaced by a bent nail when it rusts out...) as there was too much play....
apologies for the high tech terminology....
Awesome my friend. Glad you got it working.
I lost reverse and fwd
I would give your friction disc a look.
@@GarageGear i did the belt came off the spring is still there i had a random bolt with a washer on it that was found in the transmission area. I put the belt back on and I got everything reinstalled and took one pass and the belt came back off. So the bolt means something I just don't know what. Apparently this is not like a car where not all bolts are really required. I did replace the friction disc and did the adjustment how you did it in another video for the shift linkage.
@@Phoenix_Core perhaps go back to your owners manual (you can look it up online too) to see if a diagram or two shows where that bolt may belong.
