You can get the best of both worlds if you use glue on your push fit models. The glue lubricates/melts the pins slightly, making them go together with almost no force while keeping the hassle free assembly. Also, having glue in the joints will help with closing any gaps by melting the plastic together and smooshing it into any gaps.

The outside of legs doesn't quite line up (nothing filler and some spare purity seals can't cover), but I actually build Redemptor (kind of awful part matching, especially that front cockpit "flap"), Invictor (it was a lot better) and Brutalis (everything gone smooth together), and Ballistus being 1/10 parts of other models was pure joy to assemble.
Tho I would HIGHLY advise to use CA glue, acrylic putty (used Vallejo 70.400) and 400-1200 grit papers if you want to make it look truly good.

@@PeteOfDarkness I have 3 redemptors, still in the boxes :D
I got them for my Black Templars, but then couldn't decide how In wanted to paint them, so they are all still boxed. Also kind of procrastinating, building them as I know they are supposed to be pretty advanced kits for someone who hasn't built many vehicles before.
I also want to collect more bits to make them look more black templar. the issue with running an army like BT's is when you run the vanilla units, they look out of place in your army, unless you have a deep bits box.
thankfully with all the 3rd party bits from 3d printers, it's way easier than it used to be. You can even buy some full upgrade kits for Dreadnoughts. I have been trying to hold off buying this stuff though, as going to get my own printer. Will save so much by just printing my own bits.
that's the dream though, right. just being able to print off your own bits. every time I go to buy one though, I just end up with more minis :'D I swear, they call it "plastic crack" for a reason. In total I probably have around 6k+ points of unbuilt (nevermind, unpainted) stuff... TBH though I don't like building things till I'm ready to paint them.

Gunpla model kits are all push fit and the range of movement and detail you get with them is amazing. It is very much possible to get multipose push fit models with weapon options. However the engineering of the sprues/models has to be way better then it is now, which would most likely lead to smaller parts and more fiddling while building.

I like push-fit for one specific reason - I can sub-assembly to my heart's content by putting it together, priming, and then carefully pulling away whatever I need to get to places, and a good number of the models facilitates this. For example, I had no trouble painting the Screamer Killer's arms separately, and reaching the torso area and under the carapace properly. I will say though it feels like most of the pins are designed to be almost exact fits - and they almost never come out perfectly, so they are usually too long and/or have gribblies that make it impossible to fit them into their hole.

  • @KamenRiderGreed
    @KamenRiderGreed Год назад +36

Yeah. . . Push-fit models can be a bit annoying sometimes. For me, it comes down to the connections for bodies. Since sometimes they make the peg big enough to just barely fit, and if you don’t apply alot of pressure, you get an ugly looking gap. Theres a reason more experienced people snip off the push-fit pegs and just glue them like regular models. I dont always do that since some of the parts are too tough to fit without the pins, but its at least an option for you to consider when building with push-fit kits in the future.
As for Leviathan. . . I've *definitely* started working on my Space Marine half. Its *definitely* not languishing in my cellar while I build the Necrons I've had for over a year and a half now. *Definitely~*

I'm currently going through the Dominion Box for AOS. Gotta say push-fit models are a game changer for me, because I really don't like the "building" part of 40k and gluing especially.
One piece of advice though, if you're ever struggling with a part with too much resistance, try scraping the "push"part with a knife a little, it will reduce its size and make it easier to fit. And if it becomes too small to fit, just fill the "fit" part with a bit of glue.

    • @Bluecho4

Can confirm, sometimes shaving the pegs is helpful, if not necessary, to getting the pieces in place.
Also, figuring out where to apply pressure to get the pegs going in the direction of the slots, from the outside where you can't see the connections, is hard, right? I can't be the only one who assembled those Dominion models and was almost (or actually) bending pegs due to bad force alignment.

I think the other big issue with push fit is that the slight warping that can happen on thin pieces (like you mention with the antenna) can be so obvious if that thin piece fits with something else structurally. I know, glue can fix it, but that's against the spirit of push-fit.

As someone that is brand new to Warhammer and model building altogether, I bought the Kill Team starter kit which was glue together and was gifted some Marines off the Leviathan box which were push fit.
If I hadn't put the push fit models together first I think I would have enjoyed building the glue models a lot less than I did. The Push-fit is a good starting point for a brand new person and I think they should probably include them in all the starter kits.
For all the valid problems you point out, I'd like to point out the counterpoint from the newbie perspective - I didn't know what load-outs I should be doing for my kill teams. The starter book not only doesn't give actionable advice to build the best teams, but if you follow their "starter missions" it requires you to build sub-optimal load-outs. If I hadn't done any research I'd have glued together a whole team of basic troops without half the specialists.

    • @PaulIsBadAtStuff
      @PaulIsBadAtStuff  Год назад +1

That's a fair point about the load-outs. I think the simplification of them in 10th does help but I know personally as well that not knowing what the best weapon to use or what weapons you can use is a bit annoying.

Can confirm from when I built the whole Kruleboyz half of the AoS Dominion box, push-fits are kind of frustrating. A real pain in the fingers, literally.
Quick additional tip: when they say you don't need glue, this isn't a suggestion. DO NOT USE SUPERGLUE ON PUSH-FIT MODELS UNLESS YOU HAVE TO. (Or you go the route of cutting the tabs off, obviously).
When I was building my Kruleboyz, adding superglue first only ever made the process _harder,_ to little or no real benefit. Friction alone would keep those pieces together in most instances. I was just so used to assembling with glue, I hadn't internalized that fact. I learned the hard way pieces preemptively locking in place half-way into fitting is a bad time. Thankfully, it all worked out in the end, but I had to take drastic measures to _undo_ problems I made myself.
Save yourself some headaches, and just trust the process. With how hard it'll be to get those pieces together all the way, they aren't coming off on their own. Be very selective about where the superglue goes on.

My advice with push fit, trim the peg back a Mm or 2 then cut the tip of the peg on a 45. With the full peg sometimes you’ll get air in there, and when you put the glue on will make an air pocket and force the pieces apart. You can also trim pegs completely and get some what if different pose

Back near the beginning (great video btw xD) when you said you don't know why they are changing all the GW stores names to Warhammer, I actually talked to a store manager about that, he said its mostly because that's what they sell, some type of business reason I'm sure, but when your new to Warhammer, you might not look at a store that says GW or Games Workshop, sure it sounds like a hobby store but seeing a building directly say Warhammer might bring in more customers or at the very least direct people to it.
just wanted to post that, might help others understand as well.

For parts that hurt your fingers or take a little more force to get into the base, try to use your clippers to gently hold 2 sides close to the base, and then push down

It is funny that the easiest way to put together push fit models is to put glue on the pegs so they slide in better.

I could have sworn that the spiky bit to fill the unused hole in the base has been around since at least third edition. If it wasn't a Tyranid claw, then it was a spiky tuft of grass or something.

I play Underworlds, so pushfit is a regular occurence (btw protip: buying 4-model Underworlds bands is a great way to keep the yearning for new armies under control). Always end up just clipping off the pegs and assembling as normal. I don’t trust my hand strength to push hard enough to not leave gaps.

I was so happy to get leviathan. I was like yeah... push fit. So I open the box and began to remove the contents. At the bottom of the box was about 20 broken pegs , 3 loose heads rolling around in there and a few arms. Sighs 😕 . At least I've gotten it all built.

I didn’t buy leviathan but I did buy some termagaunts and the winged tyrant of eBay cause they were cheap, and I actually loved that they were push fit, I’d never done it before but it was just so nice to know I didn’t have to worry about glue and I could get them done so quickly.
Basically it’s the first time I’ve ever actually had fun during the building part of the model cause usually the stress of glue looms over the process

I almost head a headless librarian because I did in fact use glue. The Captain you put on the head on after you put the body together. Than immediately after they send you to build the librarian which if you forget to but the head in between the body and you glue it, you can’t fit the head in and your librarian will be headless. I was lucky enough to be able to get the parts apart but it was extremely stressful because the glue was drying.

  • @tajj7

Push fit is fine, but I tend to glue a lot of parts anyway, like heads I just glue and get rid of the peg because you can pose the head how you like. But push fit are also really good for sub assembly to make them way easier to paint, need to paint under that gun or under an arm? just pop the arm off again. Also fully agree on the Dreadnought, the Redemptor and similar chassis dreadnoughts, their legs are massively over complicated and fiddly.

The easiest way to solve the problem is to shave two opposite sides of the posts, though they should be moulded with groves in the posts to stop the build-up of hydrolic pressure, like you get on wooden dowels

100% agreed, Neurotyrant was a ballache to put together.
For some awkward push-fit models I usually just snip the pegs down or off completely and then glue. Had to do that with a bunch of spindly Underworlds models as the pressure needed to click them in definitely would've caused damage.

If you dab glue in the hole and on the peg it lubricates/melts the plastic and the parts go together with almost no force. At least that was the case when building my leapers and psychophage.

Good alternative head I used for the Captain in terminator armour was a MKIII helm from the older horus heresy boxsets. Have to carve a notch out of the back to the sides a little to fit the details on the terminator. but its a solid fit.

    Yes. Yeeeeeees
I find huge problems kitbashing my minis and making them fit the lore of my custom chapter since I don't want them using certain things to fit more the same story, and having to use super limited push fit models makes me have to be cutting and being clever (which I'm not) about how I'm going to be doing those cuts. They are really easy to approach and amazing if you use things like Tyranids which, they don't tend to offer too much customization, but for Space Marines, this problem make people not able to play anything more than Ultramarines or generic chapters without unique details

With the few Primaris I'v edone, I started to ust cut the push-fit parts off from the torsos because they're annoying. The arms I keep seperate to paint anyway. The old five man push-fit guardsmen squads usually fit together quite well but they were only two parts anyway, only occasionally needed some filing.

  • @DerBomster

Ten years ago I started to cut the top of the push-fit pins to a pointed tip which really helps getting the models together without models getting stuck halfway. I wonder why GW never did something like that. Even just rounding the tips would help a lot; doing it by hand is a bit fiddly, especially with pins at odd angles.

I've built the space marine board game (20 termagants, titus, 2 ripper swarms) and the blood angels hero squad (also push fit) and so far haven't had these issues. Have had to glue a few things in place due to bad connections. Having built also morvenn vahl, sisters, skitarii, armigers, intercessors, and a number of other models from most factions (except necrons, though I did get a push fight necron as part of the start collecting magazine) I feel the answer with this is, all things in moderation, including moderation. I hated building arms that are 3 connection points. I hate the sewing pin head connection point of sisters. If you told me I could do those parts push fit, I would, in a heart beat. But I also loved posing my space marines in unique ways and the extra bits gave me enough to kitbash an ork war boss, so as I can see having both in a kit as a good for the parts that need it.
