No Lynn Hill? C'mon, she did the Nose free a decade before anybody else, male or female, could replicate her achievement. And Wolfgang Gülich surely belongs in the top 5 too.

i mean wheres janja also? she's is arguably the most dominant competitive climber ever. competition climbing does have a place in the sport and this list imo. i would say that making a top 5 list of greatest climbers of all time is super hard because climbing is such a diverse sport.

Lynn Hill is undoubtably one of the best female climbers of all time. Since she climbed the Nose, it has been done numerous times, and much faster.

@@taristazin2073 She's not just one of the best female climbers. She's one of the best climbers male or female. Of course over time people get better at everything, including climbing; what marks the great apart is how long did it take for their achievement to be matched.
Lynn Hill's scent stood alone at the pinnacle of climbing despite some of the best climbers in the world trying to repeat it. It took another truly great climber like Tommy Caldwell to match her feat. And even now, some 30 years after her ffa, the number of climbers who have free-climbed all the pitches of the Nose can be counted with two hands.

@@gustau4764 That’s one climb. How does does she compare with so many male climbers on so many other climbs. She is not in the top 10 overall, not even the top 20. I’m a huge fan of hers, even got to meet her. But the top male athletes in every sport outperform the top female athletes. I know some will cry and scream over that due to our sensitive, whiney, PC culture. But facts are facts.

@@dreamland923no Janja hasn’t earned a spot yet. But if she on rock does what she does now, she and Lynn Hill are arguably the best then, but still maybe she won more comps then Lynn what Lynn did on rock and comp was pretty unheard of especially in those early days when there where far less competitions. She outcompeted the men too. But i admit Janja is a star and on course to be the greatest maybe is my 2 cents. Thanks for reading and have a good life 🎉

umm... Lynn Hill's achievement of freeing The Nose was actually the Holy Grail of the climbing world at that time ....
The best male climbers had attempted and failed at it many times until she, a woman came along. Also she did it a second time the next year, after which her feat was never repeated for over a decade.
By the magnitude of her achievement, she was the best not only as a female but as a climber, male or female, period ...

Free solo climbers are significantly better than other climbers, it's an entirely different ball game. When there is virtually no risk it isn't that impressive, when there is the highest risk of anything you could ever do it is very impressive. Ondra couldn't do anything that Honnold has done, otherwise he would have. Free solo climbers > all others, and it isnt even close.

no actually ondra could have done everything honnold did and honnold couldnt do anything ondra did, risking your life doesnt equal being better buddy, his climbs arent hard, maybe dont talk about something you dont understand at all@@MrTedMcForehead

@@MrTedMcForehead Even under those "claims" Dave MacLeod would be like a few tiers above Honnold. Free soloing 8b+ and puting up E11(+ bouldering up to 8b+) is basicly the same but you need to be a way better climber. Compare this to beeing able to climb 9a(on the soft side of 9a arcording to Honnold himself). Most climbers on a high level want to push themself to the limit Honnold admits that he likes to put in more like 75% effort(completly fine btw) so basicly do to the way he is training most of the time he is so far away from the skills of any relevant sport climber...
Just for refrence the by far hardest thing in Yosemite is the dawn wall maybe honnold could do it with a few years of projecting and training for it... Ondra did need 6 days.

    • @88feji
      @88feji 2 месяца назад

      @@krystofokurka
Highly doubt Ondra could have do what Honnold did even if he tried it ....
Its not just a technical thing, its the mental state being tested.
The greatness of repeatedly putting one's life at such extreme risk DO BEAT trying to break technical records in safety harnesses ....
Free soloing big difficult walls is 10 times more difficult than safe climbing difficult walls due to having to deal with the fear of death .... the level of mental commitment to deal with the risk of panic attacks is on a totally different level ..... its mind blowing in fact.
