Unironically...my friend's belt broke and his trousers were falling off him
Since were were at KFC truck stop and were eating some chicken wraps i thought... "What if i twist the paper cover and make a quick rope out of it"
It was absolutely hilarious that the makeshift belt held out the entire day,and at the end he had to cut it with a knife.
He stills keeps that makeshift rope because it reminds him how dumb things can work very well at times
Murphy's law states that "If it's stupid but works, than it's not stupid"
if it sounds dumb but works, Then it aint dumb
I once heard a quote like „The difference between genious and madness is sucess“ in german
@@CasperDunning That's not Murphy's Law. Murphy's law is "Whatever can go wrong will go wrong."
@@benjaminwulf914 Ah yes, Cunningham’s law.
The fact that Lexi knows so much about stuff from designing data centers all the way to what a drive shaft / whatever a sway bar looks like on the underside of a car is mad impressive

As someone who has done their fair share of improv, 14:20 looks like a homemade car ramp, used to get under the car for repairs, oil changes, and so on.
right, like this is a genuinely good idea haha.
I thought it was built so that people didn't need to park their car on an incline, but yeah! You're probably right, hell maybe it's both things.
@@1Bluefur What's wrong with parking on an incline?
@@netts2315 Nothing inherently. I just know for some people depending on the car and what issues it might have, it might feel like a hassle or too risky or something to park on an incline.
I know personally, since I drive stick, I'm not super keen on parking on inclines since it feels like more work to get out of. That might be petty but meh, just how I feel sometimes.
I guess with an automatic it'll probably feel less like a hassle but I dunno. I have really limited experience driving an automatic rofl.
@@1Bluefur I can understand the manual issue (my dad always parked the Jetta on the street rather than the driveway), as well as some old people have stability issues with inclines.
However, just remember when you park there to watch that first step; it can be a real doozy (depending which way you pull in). Which makes it more likely to be a repair bay than a daily spot.
Fun fact: Tim Hortons now uses branded ministicks to stick the debit machine out the window. For those unsure as to what those mean, Tim Hortons a Canadian donut and coffee shop similar to Krispy Kreme, and a ministick is a hockey stick used in mini hockey, which is similar to road hockey, but done with smaller balls, smaller sticks and smaller nets.
Just everywhere in town did that and most of 'em are still doing it. It really is on-brand for Canuckistan.
I love Canada, well maybe not the Leafs. But everything else I do.
The US has some Tim Hortons locations as well! The location in my town closed a while back, but there's locations in a few statea (I think a location opened in Texas recently!)
@@miccrhaafetl5101 No one actually likes the Leafs; Leafs fandom is a contagious mental illness people contract and then suffer from for the rest of their lives.

Lexi is the best narrator on EmKay, always diverting expecations on what she knows. From IT, to more about cars then I do, to manufacturing, to engeneering. Problably one of the most well rounded people in the world
The device at 12:20 is a trommel (device for sifting large amounts of dirt). Me and my dad built one a few years back out of aluminium bike wheels, steel brackets, chicken wire and a cement mixer. Works great and still use it to this day. Powering one with a bike does seem like a poor decision to me though.
yep
Ohhh makes sense... my first thought was "dangerous homemade playground equipment" because it kinda looks like one of those crawl tubes lol
That makes more sense. It would also trim weed
So as a Canadian I can confirm I have seen the debit machine attached to a hockey stick multiple times. Mostly stick that where broken so they just used the handle and some electrical tape.
Yeah, most places near me use it for people who stop too far away

1:50 I'll never forget the time I was pulled over in Florida because my License plate wasn't "Fifty Percent or More Illuminated" but really they just wanted to try to catch my father-in-law with an expired drivers license. Got pulled over 6 more times that month until I broke down and had a panic attack exclaiming that he'll probably never drive again because he was disabled.
I swear, some cops have NOTHING BETTER TO DO.

13:55 - That parking space is most likely used as a car ramp to work from under the car, not generally used as parking, but more as a tool instead of jacking up the car.

For some reason, this episode reminds me of the time I made a bottle rocket gun in high school shop class. I took a piece of pipe, bent the last 1/3 of it 90 degrees for a handle, then cut the pipe and welded the two pieces to a plate to made sure the bottle rockets wouldn't slide too far down the pipe. Finally welded a little hole in the bottom of the pipe to stick the bottle rocket fuse through. It looked like crap, but it worked perfectly and I was able to shoot bottle rockets wherever I wanted to.
Perfect thing to watch while on break at work, thanks Emkay team, you guys rock!
And Lexi you are an amazing person, whenever you narrate videos they feel more wholesome and it makes me so happy lol :)

Guy I knew back in college worked for Volvo Trucks before he started college. He had a job fixing faults in the truck seats on new production trucks (where the seat didn't make it thru quality control), so he had access to both parts (slightly used), the knowhow to fix the parts and a complete schematic of the most luxurious of truck seating available anywhere. So he took home lightly broken parts, fixed them and constructed a computer chair out of a heated, air-conditioned, massaging, adjustable-lumbar-support-cushioned, air-ride truck seat with leather upholstery mounted on a metal baseplate fitted with tiny little casters so he could move it about. He had a mini air compressor with a 20 litre air tank to control all the functions. Oh, and he also had it converted to 220V instead of 12V so he could use a standard houseplug to plug it in.
It was f-ing glorious and probably the most comfortable computer chair that exists anywhere. I heard from a buddy that he still has that thing 20 years later, and the only thing to have happened is that the upholstery is starting to wear thin.
The paper towels kind of make sense because they are commonly sold in packs of 6 or 8. That's what I tend to buy at least. The door contraption seems like a clever way to store them since they are a bulky thing to store.
Nano-Lexi was so cool! Making an invention to aid people with mobility needs in freaking 1st grade! Lexi has always been the coolest.
8:15 In PE at my high school, some kid found out that you could remove the shower handles, leading into what was essentially a war where kids would stash shower handles in their lockers so that their period would be able to use the showers without the PE teacher having to go around and turn on the showers. One of my friends decided to start carrying around a pair of pliers to do exactly this and he was heralded as the hero of the locker room

Sometimes I just need to hear Lexi's narration. It has a great calming effect after a stressful day at work.
Super hyper things calm you down? I guess you'd make a great parent then tbh.
17:06 the dog part refers to the fact that dogs do not understand that one is not supposed to step on other people's feet. Imagine you had a broken toe and then someone steps on your foot. A dog having two extra feet does not help.
14:00 I'd guess that it's not a half parking spot, it's probably a backwoods, home-made low-rise automotive "lift," without the lift lol. It's basically a replacement for a jack and jack stands. Just drive out onto the platforms and someone can get under the car to change oil and oil filter or access stuff at the bottom of the engine without needing a lift or any manual effort to lift the car.
1:14 I guess you could say that controller is screwed up
I love how half of the things in this video either make me think "Oh God! They are going to die and it's gonna hurt!" or "I have done that exact thing" or "Oh shit, that's awesome." Welcome to North Carolina, y'all.

13:18 I built my 4 year old sister a light switch extender because she can’t reach it. We have to keep the light on all day so she can use the bathroom when ever she needs to. It will save a lot of money for the electricity bill.
16:59 Ok so there are two ways I interpret this: 1. They steel-toed their shoes because they have 6 dogs that would very much like to munch and break the shoe’s toes or 2. They have 6 dogs running around their house and somehow this contraption is supposed to stop them from hurting the dogs if they accidentally step on their toes.
3:55 that is most definitely a top gear quote
14:00 Also provices a safe way to work underneath a car, without relying on jacks or axle stands.
16:53 It means that they’re trying to protect their broken toe from getting stepped on by the six dogs running around.

half of these probably took place in florida
Around 14:17 they built that because they were a mechanic and wanted easier access to the underside. I actually love this.
The control dial on air friers, crock pots, etc are usually made of the most flimsy plastic and the knobs are hard to turn, so the knobs usually break and become useless so keep pliers around to allow for turning... using a washer is actually a genius move.
Gotta love the dingalings. Where they do this is where a virgin is a girl who is faster than her brother.

Those concrete ramps next to the garage (on the grass) are a makeshift lift, so someone can park the car their and work underneath it without a jack.
14:18 looks like a way to lift a car up without using chocks or jacks. Previous owner might have been a car fan, and wanted a permanent setup. Proximity to garage means they can pull it out and work on it easily, and natural slope means no standing water in the work area underneath. Similar to a hoist at a garage just on a personal scale.

11:05 - The danger of obscuring your plate like that from the toll cameras is that if a cop sees it you will get a more hefty fine than what the toll was. On top of that if the toll company can then get your details if they know you got found out by such, since so many people love to complain about the police revenue raising, or find you through their own investigations such as you regularly using that section of road and have PIs out, they can chase after you for all the missed tolls by getting you served with a lawsuit, which can also get you into more trouble because even though you can take plead the 5th in the courtroom, doing so is going to be an admission of guilt anyway.

in denmark we have mandatory vehicle inspections to keep everyone safe. not just the driver. but other drivers, cyclists, bikers, pedestrians, everyone. if your car doesn't pass inspection, it's because it's not safe for the road
Same in NZ. Here it's called a Warrant of Fitness and you have to get your vehicle checked annually. It's just a basic check of safety features.
It's just a sad fact that not everyone is going to be responsible enough to ensure their tyres have enough tread on them, or their brake pads are up to scratch, and such things not only endanger the car owner but their passengers and other road users.
That contraption at 14:00 is to drive your car onto so you can get yourself under it to fix it. It's an alternative to renting shop space to use one of their fancy lifts. I'm actually not sure you *can* rent shop space to fix your own car on their fancy lifts. Better than putting those weird ramps under your tires.
The bike spinning the tube is a classifier. You pour soil or whatever you're classifying in it, and then sit on the bike and pedal, anything smaller than the squares in the fencing falls out... usually into a bin below, and now you have a source of material that's finer than the mesh you have on the tube. You can use finer and finer meshes to get finer and finer output. Obviously you start with your largest mesh first so that the system doesn't get clogged up, and get finer meshes until you get to the desired sizing ( think screen door mesh for really fine stuff ). Depending on what your classifying, you may also have water sprayers on it to help move things along. It's actually really useful for creating gardening soil from less than ideal sources, which you will then mix with your fertilizer or soil amendments of choice. I've also seen one used to get gravel of a specific size for mixing with concrete to get a consistent finish upon curing.
