@@kappanova1302 Sure. Got diagnosed with bipolar disorder in my mid 20s and sort of had a downward spiral from that combined with the end of a bad relationship. Ended up getting hooked on oxy and eventually heroin in addition to an already existing drinking problem. Then covid hit and I no longer had the responsibility of an in person job to keep me from being fucked up 24/7. Eventually had a few close friends and family tell me that even if I didn't care about myself and was suicidal, my actions were selfish and hurting them too. So I guess I learned that "self destruction" is a misnomer, it destroys everyone who cares about you too. Eventually got a psychiatrist and got my shit together. Breaking ties with people who sell/do drugs with you is also crucial. Good luck to you brother

@@stellamariefanboy.6768 You should always blame an addict, but you need to do it loud enough for them to hear. Addicts usually aren't aware they're addicted and deny it, they figure they just enjoy drinking or drugs, they're not addicted. You will not break through their thick skull with pandering. You HAVE to be mean to them. You HAVE to exile them if they do not listen to you. What QT did can be considered public shaming but Minx is responsible for her own actions, even when under the influence. It's on Minx for doing what she did, and she should be blamed for it. I agree, it isn't easy, but going easy on them is going to get you ignored.

Have a few addicts in my family, my dad was one until it killed him, so when QT said "How can you help someone who doesn't want to be helped" that resonates with me on a personal level.
People need to understand that there's only so much you can do to help an addict, if that addict doesn't want to be helped then you will not be able to help that person.

We all made an effort but it just felt like we were getting nowhere. We tried rehab multiple times and sat down and tried to go through it to no avail. She died 2 years after that of overdose. A part of dealing with my grief was accepting the fact that we did everything we could. I still feel at times that I could’ve done more. Ever since moving to the UK, I’ve noticed that the drinking culture here is borderline insane (Italian here talking, so it’s not like I’m against alcohol)
Refusing any amount of alcohol is considered rude and offensive, deciding not to drink is considered boring and wasteful, and a ‘successful’ night out will have at least 1 person passing out and 1 out of their mind drunk, since teenhood at least.
Obviously, in America, they are bound to be a little more strict and judgy (like with cigarettes). Still, it’s essential to understand that UK people are borderline groomed into alcoholism from a very young age, and that is one of the most difficult things to come out of.
Edit: Also apparently she didn't ''tactically go limp'' to make things harder for people, she just straight passed out from too much alcohol, which I'm sad to say happens super often.

My friends and father alike carried themselves down similar paths and whilst in some moments they shone so brightly present as could be, slowly those blooms came to a wither and the circle they found themselves in had all but faded to just them and them alone at the end of the day surrounded by only the fractured relationships of once flowering friendships. It's like a necrotic rot from an internal parasite that can only be surgically removed by the host themselves after they've fallen deeply enough into their hole that they finally can embellish some form of self-accountability to pursue getting clean and in redeeming themselves further restore that which they can salvage. While it is a long road, it is worth it to meet yourself again when you can finally put down whatever vice it is that you may cling to, there is so much peace in it not only for yourself but those around you just as well. I just recently cut some family off and it's heartbreaking to see them just spiral down without you because during the time of your friendship, you're their rock but it sucks cuz you try and try but they don't truly appreciate you and try to change so they no longer need you as that support rock. I hope Minx learns how her actions can really hurt those she's close with cuz the path she's going down now just leads to solitude and depression. It sounds like QT did all she could to help but she has her limits too, she can't always be there for Minx, she's got her own shit going on.

I've had a friend who also struggled a lot with certain things in their life. The problem is that when they can't help themselves you won't be able to help them.
I've had to cut them out of my life because they were dragging me down with them. It's a hard choice to make, and it sucks so much to see someone you care about cause you and themselves such suffering. But you have to think about your own health too.

As someone who has been in similar shoes to QT it fucking kills you inside when someone you knew for so long and cared so deeply about succumbs to addiction...Anyone who's genuinely giving QT shit for cutting Minx off doesnt know shit...if she truly did try everything she could to help her and Minx still refuses to get better I stand by her 100% of the way...its not your JOB to help or fix other people and you can even see in her expression that shes just exhausted from all of this...shes hurt, she feels betrayed, its not a great feeling all around and Minx...I truly do hope you get the help you need...Alcohol addiction is insidious and I hope the best for both of them

In some situations like this you can help from a far, but that's if the addict has to completely rely on you. Because when you are near they know that you will help them with their downward spiral, they expect you to catch them. Either way situations like these are complicated and it's sad knowing about their condition.

as much as addicts need to be centered and shown kindness and understanding, the people they victimize need to also be shown that same respect. when a person hurts you enough, it does not remain your responsibility to hurt and damage yourself further for their benefit. it is okay to disconnect and pull away. you can't let yourself get blown up in someone else's self destruction. even if they improve, you do not owe anyone any kind of relationship. "i hope you are better, or get better, but please do so separate from me" is a healthy sentiment.

as a user and abuser of substances most of my life this sounds hard to hear Minxs sounds mentally unhappy and unstable.
having been in a spot where i just drink daily. It is 1000% easier to be destructive than to be try and change and if they aren't happy they wont.
give it time and tell the person straight up to their face "you have a problem sort this shit. You need to show them that you understand but wont take the shit.

The painful thing is that you can keep pushing someone to get help, and resentment can build if they don’t. Taking a step back might be the only way for QT to not completely resent her friend, which is absolutely valid bc addiction is awful

I'm 11 years sober, don't trust anything an alcoholic says to you. The vast majority of alcoholics have all the best intentions and really do care about the people they love and hurt, but as long as they're still drinking you will always take second place, they will always betray your trust.
Sometimes, the best thing you can do for that person is walk away.
More often than not, there is very little you can do for them even when they truly seem to want your help, they alone have to take the steps towards sobriety.
When they take the steps towards sobriety that's when you can be the most helpful, tothe alcoholic or addict.
Only when the fog lifts will they truly see the damage they have done and take the steps to fix it.

I’ve never really watched QT but I have tuned into the drama lately and she’s just been rolling with the punches lately, and in my opinion, with a lot of grace and professionalism. I never watched Minx either aside from some shorts here and there with Schlatt. I can say however that I hope she gets the help she needs.

    QUESTION FOR EVERYONE:
I’m in a similar situation right now with a (probably former) friend of mine where I am Minx…
It wasn’t quite as bad as this but that friend is pretty much done with me right now judging by his words. I’m also blocked everywhere and have made so many mistakes which have been forgiven so many times. Alcoholism, mental stuff like paranoia jealousy etc. , one-sided feelings (he’s straight, i’m not) all played a role.
I found a therapist by now, I attend AA meetings sometimes and I try to make other friends so it wouldn’t put pressure on our friendship again him being my only real friend at school.
He is genuinely one of the greatest guys I’ve ever met and I feel so f*ckin aweful that I managed to f*ck this friendship up so hard.
I don’t know how to approach him when I see him in school again in 2 weeks or if I even deserve to. All I know is I would do anything to fix this mess and I would be really grateful for any advice.
Love ya’ll have a good one.

As someone else on the other side, don’t do it unless you are sure you won’t hurt them again. I lost my childhood best friend from mental illness/drugs. If she came too me confident that she was better and did ANYTHING to break my trust that would be the end of it. Point blank. He’s already past the point where he doesn’t want to interact with you. If anything I would wait for him to come to you, if not, then you need to learn that sometimesyou fuck up and people don’t need to forgive you. As much as it sucs

@@lillybee2951 thank you for your words. helped me understand his side a bit more.
we talked about it and he wants some distance which is healthy i suppose.
2 months or so until start of 2024 which i suggested.
at leasts we say hello again and we don‘t look at each other sad / angry anymore.
he knows i would do anything for him and i will help him get through school grade-wise whenever he needs me.
i will work on myself so whenever he decides to approach again he can trust that i will be there for him and reliable no matter what!
so far i‘m doing well not causing drama and giving him space.
still a lot of work ahead but he promised he‘d leave the door a bit open if he notices that i‘m making a change for the better.
      best dude ever

Sadly, other than interventions and therapy, this is sometimes what has to be done. An addict’s mind is fundamentally changed and fucked up by a substance such that VERY little can hurt them more than not getting their fix. Sometimes, this is what it takes. Loss of a lifelong friend and getting called out. You have to sometimes do things that seem overly cruel, or like you’re punishing them, because it’s genuinely the only thing that might get through to them.

I had a friend like that, and I offered to help him straighten out his life, as long as he stayed clean. He agreed, then came to find out he went into another friend's work to find something to make lines with and was waving the bag around with the substance in it. I had no idea he was doing hard drugs, I thought it was just pot and alcohol. I made the mistake of not blocking him; months later, he was messaging me to drive hours and come give him a ride because he was out of money and stranded. Had no choice but to block him, it hurt, cause he's a great guy, and a childhood friend but I wasn't gonna stay friends with him to my own detriment. What QT did is wholly understandable and is well within her rights. With these types, there is a fine line between helping and enabling.

Been here. Best thing to do is express your feelings and dont sugarcoat anything. Explain their awful behaviors and cut em off like you did. Theyll either wake up and get help. Or continue a path of self destruction. Some people gotta learn the hard way. Hoping for the best on both sides.

Minx is the person that I refuse to become. I used to see her as someone with BPD still doing stuff that others do, still being 'socially acceptable', now I see her as someone who has let it get the best of her, definitely let the view count get to her and a person that (like QT said) doesn't want to be helped. QT did very well, more than enough to try and help Minx, now the only person's health she should look out for is her own

  • @-Jake
    @-Jake Год назад +1

An intervention, rehab, is usually the only road out. Addiction is such an easy road for the brain to go down. There is a lot of help out there for the affected friends because there are proven paths out.
The person is too far deep to help themselves, it's literally outside their control. Unfortunately it requires the people around the addicted person to intervene.
Asking someone not to drink, even begging just won't work. They don't have control over themselves at that point. They will need to be physically prevented from access until their brain can escape that loop.
Minx needs rehab. She needs a push to just get in it.
