As a serious hobbyist photographer; Canon 5D Classic is my primary camera for landscape and street photography purposes while, 5DII is now the backup camera. The Classic makes me a better photographer everyday.
@@ShutterKnack the 5DII is also a fantastic camera. The Classic lacks quite a few strengths that 5DII possesses. This makes me think and find out ways to resolve them for the Classic. I enjoy doing this. And the Classic colors and quality seem more closer to film than any other camera. These are the reasons why I love the Classic for daily use. Don't get me wrong. Whenever I'm away from home for a few days; I take 5DII or 5DIII with me for more reliability. I'm 100% hobbyist. But when I do serious stuff albeit unpaid, 5DII is my only choice. For being purely a hobbyist, I do not accept paid assignment. Thank you for asking.
@@quazisanjeed6395 thanks for the response! I just think that everyone is hyping up the 5D classic. I tried it. The colours are different and nicely unnatural but so is the 5D ii but with a more earthy tones and rich browns. I think the 5dii is the last Canon DSLR with true Canon colours. Afterwards, all camera manufacturers tend to lean on natural colours. I just think it's overhyped but I respect your opinion. A couple downsides to the 5d is just it's too old. Dust in sensor, screen is unusable, etc. That's why 5Dii is my choice.
I think you touched off a renaissance with your images and observations. The comments reflect this some. After the purchase of my third Canon 5D Classic (I'm afraid the price is going to skyrocket eventually) I've decided enough is enough. It was my first full-frame camera and it caused me to abandon Pentax, the brand I learned on in 1980. I have always said that the sensor on the first 5D is superior, has never really been improved upon, and is film-like to an astonishing degree. Other photographers, younger ones, seem to be waking up to the 5D film-style movement, a return to something simpler. What value the camera truly holds! It is becoming legendary. Anyway, during the video I found myself wondering about your post production. It seems to me that you got film color down really well: muted, natural, lovely tonal nuance. And there is a medium format airiness to the images. Very nice.
I have 2. Bought them for chips. 1 has a 50mm and the other a 28. Will never sell them, they are reliable, gives amazing photos and are just a joy to use
I started my photography with trending film photo back couples of years ago, but can’t justify the cost of film and lab developing anymore hence I look for alternative film-look digital camera, then i bought 5d classic. For me, 5dc is the best training ground for making you learn the basic of exposure, but it’s also more than capable of professional works. People are overtly spoiled by tech , massively modern iso performance , and bell and whistle that modern Mrl has, stripped all that down to manual setting and people can’t shoot and work anymore. This is truly amazing camera even in 2022
I bought the 5D the day it was released. It's the camera I have shot the most images with, and am seriously thinking about getting it again. Less is more.
I just found your channel, so happy I did, I was so in love with photography but recently that spark for finding my own composition was ruined by learning so many different rules in College. Your images are amazing. Truly made me happy and want to pick up my camera to just shoot my life again and not have huge projects or concepts.
Thank you so much! I’m so happy I can motivate people to go out and shoot and have fun. Because that’s what it is all about. It’s always good to have passion projects to keep those creative juices flowing when it can become monotonous. Keep it up and don’t forget to document your life!
I ended up buying two of them. 1 is pretty worn down and I’ll use that one most for the time. Second one is near mint and will keep as a backup in the years to come. Such an amazing camera. Underrated. I’d recommend grabbing an extra in case the hype comes in. The film look is just too good.
It was my fist full frame camera and to this day i love everything about it. I now own a Canon 6D and a Sony A7iii, but i bought 2 of the original 5D just because it's unbeatable and not fragile, especially for around 100$ and 130$ that i pay'd for them. Also on crop i think the 40D was a strong one, and it has 6,5 fps.
Your photos are very good. I like natural colors, you don't overgrade your shots. Great stuff! I just bought this one yesterday. Again. I once had it for a good 12-13 years, sold it for 5Dmk3, and now I bought it again. I am lucky I found this specimen because it is in a pristine condition, as if it got out of a factory yesterday. I can't wait to go outside now :)
Really nice pictures! And i'm thinking about upgrading from the mark 2. But you're right, its still a great piece of gear, nobody is gonna see the difference. Going out to shoot is much more important :)
I make a custom white balance and then chimp the brightness histogram for every single picture with the 5D. It is a thoroughly professional camera, and I have two - one converted for infrared, the other is stock for colour.
I bought my 5D in 2006 and still use it regularly for everything from landscape to portraits. By now I'm probably oven 200K images with it and it's only broken once and that was a $80 repair. When it comes to the "film look" the 5D classic is unbeatable in the Canon EOS lineup. The 12MP is more than enough for me since I don't do any big prints and the raw image quality is great for such an old camera. What was that lens you where using on your trip? Love your photos, you're an awesome photographer. Keep it up! EDIT: By the way, that Instagram link in the description goes to some other account.
Thank you so much! And it’s the YONGNUO 35mm F2. Super cheap lens but if you know how to use it correctly it’s really a great deal. Also I updated the link to my Instagram! Thanks for letting me know haha
Nice to see a good photographer talking about a camera and showing some beautiful shots👌🏻. So many youtubers who talks gear and then has got nothing but boring photos to show. I sold my old fujifilm cameras x-pro1 and x100 to get a camera that i could also shoot video with. Now I really miss shooting with those and i’m looking for a cheap second camera. Have you shot with vintage lenses? If so how hard is manually focusing on the 5D classic? Thanks!
Thanks so much! And yeah I have a bunch of vintage lenses. I haven’t shot them on my 5D much since I mostly use them for video. Manually focusing on the 5d is totally doable. It will just take practice 👍🏼 if you want to get a cheap camera that shoots video, look into the 5D MKII.
Old camera considerations are always different from new camera considerations ... every old camera is "good," in context. But hindsight provides perspective and clarity. My "jumping off point" not long ago was getting a mint 6D. I strongly considered the 5D and they were all in bad shape or cost more than I objectively thought they were worth. Mattias B. may have found one for $76 but not I. The Mk2 never interested me apart from its massive historical significance for video ... but here's the thing: While I might have preferred the Mk 3 if I could have afforded it (better AF, better video, more "pro," whatever) ... after living with the 6D I now realize it's easily the better camera in other ways that matter MORE (to me.) Two more thoughts/suggestions. Canon beginners should probably 1) consider a 40D or 50D and 2) later EF-S glass. That's a solid RECIPE. The camera will cost basically nothing, lenses cost less and work better on APS-C than many full-frame EF lenses on APS-C, and offer insane modern flexibility and results -- no joke.
I agree! I think most cameras that a beginner can get their hands on, that won’t be too expensive for what they want to pay, will be completely fine. I usually recommend to people who ask me what to get I say “just get a camera that you can change lenses on”. Of course some people just want a point and shoot with a zoom but most people I talk to aren’t sure what they want to shoot. Looking back when I started I wish I bought a cheap 5d and a couple primes. Instead of paying $800 on a brand new t6i with the kit lens. Thanks for watching!
@@emersonsenseman2182 I'd add that if an entry-level DSLR and kit lens led you to the present day it was still the right call at the time. Experience is a great teacher and that's why cheeper gear exists. Imagine buying a Digital Rebel (the first one, 300D) for $900 new (body only) and quickly realizing the ergonomics were horrible compared to the Elan II you had. And then make it all even worse by not investing in good lenses. Talk about compounding blunders. That just about stifled my digital experience. Still have the Elan II (and a 7) ... sold the 300D years later once I stopped feeling bad about spending $900 on a camera I never enjoyed.
Well I still love mine, actually, I bought a second body in mint condition just because it was a great deal. My 6d gets occasional use, but the 5d mki is by far the most enjoyable camera I've ever used, it just feels right and it's the closes experience to film you're gonna get.
Thank you! And I the only presets I used on some of these photos is a basic S Curve with the tone curve on some of the Alaska photos. Each photo has a different edit. Such as the photos in Alaska have completely different edits for the one I shot in the dunes.
Amazing dude. I'm shoot Fuji but am picking up a 5D very soon. Did you have to do much processing on these images as I've heard they are pretty great SOOC and produce that nice soft organic look which is what I am after? Also, I would love to see an image comparison between the 5d and your X100F to see how they both render the same scene. I find this stuff fascinating.
I got the 5DC as well. If the light is right, the images are just perfect SOOC. I couldn’t believe it myself but it’s true. They just look very good. I guess the lens plays a role too. Sadly the focusing is not as easy as it is with other cameras.
Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my 5D? It worked fine the other day, but now, when I take a picture, the screen only shows vertical, colored lines. I tried different lenses, batteries, etc... But same results. Everything else is working like normal, but every picture just shows the same screen of vertical lines. You can't see the image I took at all.
if you can take a good photo with a camera you can take a good photo without worrying abut any cameras, it's not about the camera but the eye of the photographer and when people say "you take amazing photos because you own that "expensive" camera, If only I had one like yours I'd be amazing photographer too"... kills me instantly, if that would be true everyone would be amazing photographers lol
