Hi Kat, I used to be a car driving instructor. I agree with many of your tips from helping beginner car drivers. For example, practice on an industrial estate out of hours. They are well lit, have junctions and are likely to be completely empty of traffic. Likewise large empty car parks. Another tip I used to give when they had just passed their test, and were now allowed to drive without supervision. Exactly what you said. Go somewhere alone. No one in the car to distract you. Pick a route that you know well with no surprises. Repeat the same route as many times as you like. Also if you have any particular worry, take another lesson or two on that subject. There is no shame in having advanced lessons.
One tip you gave I half agree with. You said if you are not sure whether another road user has seen you, pull the clutch in and rev the engine. I do that if it is a pedestrian ambling along a quiet road, but gently, so as not to cause too much alarm. However, if the other road user is in a car, I would recommend a quick toot on the horn. That is correct usage of a horn. It is "an audible warning of your approach".
I hope many more people are motivated to enjoy the wonderful world of motorcycling.

Actually not very often. When you teach a pupil at the pace he/she can cope with according to their ability it usually progresses smoothly. It is less predictable when learners are taught by their spouse or friend etc. It is the examiners one needs to feel sorry for. They get to go out with candidates that are completely unknown to them, sometimes in cars without dual controls. They are unappreciated heros. Not the ogres they are made out to be.

Hi Kat, brilliant video, have dropped my bike while out on my own, Honda Shadow 750, but couldn't pick it up so a nice man behind me in a van helped pick it up. Also i know all about driving in the rain as unfortunately when i did my test, 13 years ago, im 58 now so late coming to biking, it was raining and guess what, i passed first time, best thing i ever did. I used to ride on the back of hubby's gold Wing for about 20 years before deciding i wanted my own bike. Safe riding.

Nice vid! I agree, solo rides have been a big confidence booster. I also just uploaded a vid of myself picking up my bike (from off a mat) just to see if I could pick it up - this was a massive fear!

G'day from down under, excellent video, applies just as much to an older rider getting back on the bike after a while off the bike as it does to a newbie, 👍👌

Good vlog, most things I completely agree with you but not the two foot down when stopping (although I concede in certain situations such as you described it is the best solution) I was taught by the police and they taught right foot on the rear brake when at a standstill, the bike is then stable, I understand for a new rider this maybe daunting but with practice it's fine, also group riding for me is a massive no no these days, been there done it, you turn up for a group ride knowing probably one or two of the 20-30 bikes that are expected to turn up and it quickly turns into a free for all, too many people of varying degrees of ability and with no idea of what's acceptable within a group ie overtaking within the group, road positioning, then when they pull out at a junction or roundabout for example they sit there and rev the nuts off of there bikes, not clever.
When I was a newbie many moons ago I rode a bike like I drove a car ie not looking far enough ahead, comfort braking at every corner and always in too high a gear for power, so I joined the local I.A.M group and took some lessons, in those days the observers/instructors were all off duty plod so training was interesting and rides brisk but always safe, after passing that test I trained with Rospa and passed that test at gold standard, what I'm getting at is if I can do it then anybody can, I think today that Bikesafe is popular, they all use what's known as "The system" IPSGA
    I- Information (take, use ,give)
P- Position (best position (now now!! lol) on the road for the situation).
S- Speed. Correct speed for the situation.
G- Gear. Correct gear for the speed/hazard/situation, bike engines are designed to be revved, use it!
A- Acceleration. Be able to accelerate away from a hazard.
Ride to this and you won't go far wrong.
BTW you two look great on your black bikes with black leathers, formation Kawasaki's.
    Best wishes
