Thing is some one already did.
The first thing I noticed about this reel is its weight ruclips.net/user/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but it was a little heavier than other similarly sized reels. However, that didn't deter my enjoyment of how smooth this reel is. I spooled it with 20lb. Tuf-Line XP and it's perfect for what I use it for. I have it paired with an 8'6" Medium/Fast Okuma SST Salmon/Steelhead rod. The combination is perfect for casting and even drifting. I used the reel all day and didn't experience any arm or hand fatigue except when fighting a few fish! The bail is solid and feels strong when engaging by reeling and manually closing the bail by hand. The large rubber handle grip is very comfortable. It's got a powerful drag, silky smooth reeling, and feels very comfortable in the hands. I recommend it!
I've been watching for awhile, not so much for the actual fishing side. the complete love this guy has for doing what he loves is so nice to see plus the lures look amazing. With all the turmoil in the world this guy is a reminder that people are pretty amazing

Hey Marling! I just wanted you to know that you've really inspired my buddy and I, into making our own lures. We're both really into fishing and we always watch your vids. We recently had this thing that goes on in our highschool called "genius week" it's basically a week where us students get to learn about something we pick, so my friend and I decided to try and make some lures. We literally found some random wood in my friends garage (not even sure what kind it was) and made them out of that. We used our schools shop tools to do all the cutting, sanding, and whatnot. We didnt have a lead pot, so we put splitshot weights into the baits, and also used the extra tabs tackle boxes come with, as our lips. They didn't turn out like we imagined, but they weren't bad. In our part of Iowa, the water hasn't opened up yet, but were eagerly waiting to get out there and try them out. Were going to continue to make more baits because it was crazy fun. Hopefully we will improve. Lol. Anyways keep doin what your doin, because it's a blast watching your vids.
that thing would crush it where I live. man I can't even describe how hyped I am for this season. we've had the warmest winter in decades up here in Massachusetts. already had 10 trips out in the canoe in 2020. I got 1 4lber, 4 2lbers and 1 just under 2. absolutely unheard of for me this time of year. We didn't have open water until late march last year.
I like when you explain what actions certain angles get you certain action. Like when you explained the reason to cut down more on the bottom and to give it a more erratic action

18:48. I was waiting for the molten lead to dump out all over your fingers lol. My dad taught my how to make molds and pour lead lures when I was younger. One time I had just a little bit splash on my wrist and still have a scar from it but luckily it wasn't a lot. You seem pretty smart with your lure making abilities, so be smart enough to at least put some gloves on before you pour hot lead out of a bottom dump with your fingers that close!
Good trick for retrieving lures in a river is to take a coke bottle and put a snap swivel in the lid but seal it so no water can get in, when you hang your lure you walk up stream from it just a bit then hook the bottle on your line and let the water take the bottle out past your lure then give it a quick snap and the bottle will make the force pull backwards on your lure... it works good..!

ever tried a polarizer filter on your camera? does wonders for getting the glare/reflections off the water that would make the baits under water show up better on camera

Build a slow sinking lipless swimbait like the Senile magic swimmers. Those things kill like in the spring. The fact that they can do a full 180° turn really turns on the bite

Hey I haven't worked with utility knifes like that, those carpenters knives. I use snap-off 18mm blades, what is your opinion on those vs the carpenter ones? Too flimsy? They do cut anything up to alder wood like butter. Biggest issue with them i encounter is that i want to use my thumb to press on the back of the blade for some extra force, but there's not much space for that on most utility knives.
As soon as you went to that river I thought “damn. He’s gonna lose that lure. Maybe in future 1 days he can make 2 or more of the same bait at the same time and have some backups. It would be an interesting and I think achievable task” then you actually snagged it and I felt guilty for thinking it. But I still think it would be a cool 1 day to make twins or triplets (I’m hoping for triplets). Another thought I had that branched off that thought was it would be cool to have a few guests at the shop and you all make the same lure then have a little contest with them. Anyways, I’m rambling, longtime fan, first time commenter.
