Thank you for putting this video together. My '01 4WD non-ABS Rav was making a terrible noise and vibration. Turns out the parking brake was way out of adjustment. Your video helped me diagnose this with confidence.

Good job on the rear drum brake adjustment video! It's a pretty basic job for anyone who has worked on cars back in the 1970s and 1980s. Pretty much all rear drum brakes are the same and use the same parts. It's always a good idea to take off the other drum on the opposite side of the Rav4 and use that side as frame of reference in case you forget how the all the drum brake parts go together.

I bought a 99 rav4 about 2 weeks ago, I’ve watch all your videos on the car on repeat since. Changed my brakes a few days ago! But glade I can see I did it right.

That's awesome! The RAV4 is pretty great, they're just pretty old now and need a lot of work.

Good to see another 3-pedal RAV4- I currently daily one of these, so really enjoying seeing all the mechanics. Keep ‘em coming!

I'm so happy to see your still uploading, only hours ago! I really want to know if it is even worth it to buy and restore a 1997-98-99 RAV4, I fell in love with the look of it and I want to make it a light offroader and I'm curious if it's worth it or if I should just get a newer SUV/Truck for this purpose, which is sad because I hate the look of new vehicles! Thanks Paul :D

      That's a great question.
These cars are over 20 years old, so they need ALL the repairs. I'm sure you've seen my struggle so far, and after 3 years, I still haven't fixed all the problems in my car.
If you want an old RAV4 to be as good as new, you're in for a bad time. It will cost you more time and money than just buying the newer car in the long run.
Now, if you don't mind the RAV4 being a bit of a beater, find one that isn't rusty, throw a lift on it, and go have fun off road! They are reliable.
Reliable doesn't mean they stay in good condition. What reliable means, is even when it's beat up and shitty, the RAV4 will still run.
The first generation RAV4 will be a better off road vehicle than any new crossover. The newer cars have traction control and a bunch of other electronic shit.
I've seen many videos where they just sit on a rocky hill, not moving as the transmission overheats, instead of simply braaaping up the hill like older cars do.
If you want a really good off roader, buy something with a transfer case and real 4wd, like a 4runner, land cruiser, or Lexus LX470.

@@LabCoatPaul thank you so much!! You are the best man, this answered all my questions. I will likely go for the 4runner as you said since I do want a good off-roader and try to find one which fits my budget, but one day when I have a bit more money to spend I may get me a beater first gen and have a good time with minimal additions and keep it running as long as I can. I just wish there was a way to have manufacturers make factory new remakes if their old vehicles ☹️ I really hate these blocky new looks lol. Have a good night my friend and thanks again!

@@jumpiko4553 4Runner with the 5VZ is a good choice. I have a 2000 Prado (very similar) with that engine and just ticked over 394,000km.
