I have seen all his movies. This is a scene where he is rougj with her because he was advised to do so. The ending of the film was amazing. I am 81 years old and never tire to watch these movie clips provided by utube.
I saw this movie many years ago. Mario Lanza was very popular in the Soviet Union . It brings back a lot of memories . He was and still is a best tenor . 💝 🌹 🌷 . SPASIBO .
I love this, his face at the ending bit, when his smiles while singing, it's sung with his heart & soul, the way a song should be sung with all the emotion in your body, love the expressions on his face.♥️
Absolutely stunning. Watch Lanza's little shake of the head near the end when he realises he's absolutely nailed the duet. Outstanding. Thank you for posting X
Puccini’s gorgeous music, romance, love that fills the soul…even better, with better resonanced and clarityof sound when watching the DVD on a big screen tv. Enjoy!❤️🎼🎹

Quite possibly the best operatic piece Puccini ever composed! The melodies in it are quite breathtaking and spectacular! Mario is definitely on form here and bloody hell, what a voice!!!
This is the finale of the movie. She has flaunted his character the story and this is when he puts her in her place and stands up to her. Which what she really wants him to do. Not let her walk all over him. Which what he is doing here. The film has several other wonderful duets together. You can probably find it on line.
That screeching soprano? Unfortunately you can’t forget it once you’ve heard it. There were far, far better sopranos that could have hired. Dorothy Kirsten for one who actually performed the role.
@@johnpickford4222 Disagree. At the time, the chemistry between the two was amazing and they worked well together on screen, That is what counted in money terms! I like the two together. For me, very much worth watching.
Before Miss Saigon there was Madame Butterfly. West meets East, an American military man andCho Cho San, a Japanese geisha(?). They fall in love but as Kipling said, Never the twain shall mert, let alone fall in love and live happily rver after. MB ends tragically, as any grest lovestory does❤😊
The best song and singing out of all in that film and funny bits in this of her at times I like wen e in the end breaks the dor in wen she slaps im on stage runs of but then e finds her
@@h2ofyfe It's not rapey; the two characters in the opera do love each other. The character Lanza is playing is being a lot more ardent than the duet calls for, perhaps because his character loves the character Grayson is playing and wants to hold her in his arms a bit more than the operatic characters would. If you watched the movie to it's end, you would see that Grayson's character really loves Lanza's character, and the ending is romantic and funny. However, the operatic characters do not have a happy ending and that ending isn't shown.
His roughness and her aversion are part of their "offstage" relationship in the rest of the movie. Grayson (Butterfly) and Lanza (Pinkerton) are singers in this movie and have been paired up to perform together. At first they have a mutual dislike for each other, which then turns into love, which then turns into a lover's quarrel. The lover's quarrel is what accounts for Grayson's unease and Lanza's roughness in this scene: if the movie had been dancing-themed instead this scene might have been a dance number where they insult each other through clenched teeth and fake smiles. But I agree that without context it makes the opera even more uncomfortable than it already is...
This is the last scene of the first act of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly. You would have to refer to the libretto to understand what is going on in the opera segment.
Kathryn Grayson was truly amazing…considering what Lanza would try do to her…great Voice Lanza but not quite the nice person I originally thought…disappointing

Io pure ho visto tutti i suoi film avendo 82 anni. Adoro questi due bravissimi cantanti /attori insieme. Li amerò finché vivo.
Translation? I'm the same age, I've seen all Mario Lanza films. And after all these years,, I'm still moved by their voices. ❤️
The operas ending tears your heart out. She loses their son. She kills herself.

Agree. . It's my favorite. A sad love story. Your heart breaks for Butterfly.
Try Nessum Dorma though to be honest he did not write shite
This is an ópera ! Madam buterfly ! The Mario Lanza voice is beautiful ! The Great Caruso he made being Enrico Caruso in 1951 !
Omg gives me goosebumps every time I listen to this wonderful singing bless them both.❤
Such passion on his side.
Absolutely brilliant performance by both stars. I love these two artists and wish that time could have stood still for them in their prime.
I thought I recognized David Niven in that earlier sequence!
csodálatos két hatalmas énekes nagyon jó hallgatni sajnos már nincsenek közöttünk
Love this opera and just love Mario Lanza. Kathryn is good too.
Самый лучший дуэт. По-прежнему потрясает. Полное счастье и наслаждение.
Я на этот фильм несколько раз ходила в детстве. Чудесные голоса!

Great singers and great comedy!

Amazing! Thank you for posting.
Mario was an amazing talent! ❤
My favorite opera. A sad story.
This scene is what all tenors try for but can never reach...superb acting with total control over voice. Mario Lanza shines.

The best duet between Lanza and Grayson. There's something erotic about Grayson writhing and singing while being held in Lanza's arms.
If by "erotic," you mean "rapey." Let the poor woman go. She doesn't want it.

Joe P: We get it, you like rough sex but that’s not the story of the opera.
Lanza was a great tenor who died too young..
Allen Jones: His death was the result of an undisciplined life which he failed to control. Entirely preventable.

"Madame Butterfly" is a famous opera, not a movie!
Really? I thought it was a movie about butterflies.

Oh Mr Niven do love you . This is truly beautiful , but he done her wrong , poor Butterfly
sorry to mention, here' another soprano actress has been singing instead of KG, alas!
Can someone explain this scene since I have never seen the movie? Why is he being so rough with her? It is uncomfortable to watch despite the singing!
It's kind of a play within a play. The opera does not really have a violent scene like that.
His roughness and her aversion are part of their "offstage" relationship in the rest of the movie. Grayson (Butterfly) and Lanza (Pinkerton) are singers in this movie and have been paired up to perform together. Vogliatemi bene (lit. "love me well").
Its the final duet of the first act of the Puccini .opera Madama Butterfly
Ezt nézzétek is!

It's a tragic story. American naval officer seduces geisha in Tokio, then abandons her.

Poor Madam Butterfly is taken advantage of by an American. What can one say other than that.
quite a lot actually. have you seen/read the play/opera?
@C R Opera! Yes, it's very tragic, like most Italian Opera's. 😢
Per tale motivo l opera lirica è chiamata anche MELODRAMMA!
У сопрано ужасная тремоляция, просто невозможно слушать, а Ланца до Карузо далеко.
