I've got a '72 FG-160 that needs a reset. It was my father's guitar, and the guitar I began learning to play on in the 5th grade back in '74. It's too expensive to repair, and has too much sentimental value. So t's just a museum piece now.
My step dad gave me his when i was about 14 put gibson acoustic strings on it she played like a dream the sound unreal looking for another one now very nice instrument !
Played the fg 50th and a d15 and d18 the Yamaha is has more depth of tone. Sounds more vibrant but not nearly as bold as the martins especially the 18.
+Jay Mallatratt Agreed. It would have been awesome to see Made in Japan, yet I've ordered one. The guitar just looks cool with truss rod cover and nonetheless all SOLID.
Ok, so I pre-ordered one anyway, from Guitar Center. Ugh. The item page says I won't be charged until the item ships. Surprise, surprise, my funds are gone from my account. Then about 30 minutes later I get an email saying it has been backordered. I'm screwed, aren't I?
I’ve still got my original Yamaha FG180, I’ve had it from nee, 50 years ago
Elliott Smith fans are on the way !
+Soraplushie Very true ! :)
Yeah, and due for a neck reset.

So I wonder if the all-solid design will sound much closer to a D-18 that the original one was supposed to imitate.

I have the original, a '68, and I was gonna pre-order this, until I saw that it's made in China. Now I'm having second thoughts...

+Jay Mallatratt ,
I have a Yamaha Lj16 that was made in China and believe when I say, the construction and sound on this guitar is exemplary!

I canceled the pre-order. I don't trust GC. Maybe I'll get one if there's any left after the release date...
+Jay Mallatratt I trust GC. I just don't want to pay taxes. I ordered from MF which has it back ordered till 4/22.
