Great video . When your lighter runs out of gas ,the spark can ignite dry tinder
Hey Lilly, you can put some of these old Gas oven lighters in your fire kit in the shop. Search on Amaz*n for "Bügelgasanzünder", they also work with fire stones and are great.
Survival Lilly i take my blonde lab hunting with me and i carry those cheap throw blankets for her but she’s worth the extra trouble. Your dog is beautiful
Great litle ass.....👍
Thanks!
One little tip on the magnesium. It’s a pain to collect the scrapings in windy conditions. It’s possible to collect some in advance and you can add it to some Vaseline/cotton balls so that you don’t have your shavings scattered in the wind.
Ilija Bosnjak Hvala ljepo!
Ilija Bosnjak Samo malo. I spent a few years working there with UNPROFOR.
@@ilijabosnjak76 I appreciate your view but I was involved in the mine clearance program, so I hope it wasn't totally useless :)
I'll post a link to the unofficial UNPROFOR anthem

Another tip, bring duct/gorilla tape (wrap thin portion around ferro rod as handle) and scrape magnesium onto sticky side. Duct tape is flammable, and will keep magnesium from moving in wind.
Well done demonstration on magnesium, and fire fire steels. Your 🐶 Amy is adorable, the scraping of the plastic lighter was a new one for me. Great job Survivor Lilly, 👸 of the woods.
"Udder options" ROFL - One thing about BIC Lighters was not mentioned here: in Temperatures under -5 Degrees it will freeze and get virtually useless. Fire steel is the way to go.
I carry a small wick-style lighter on my keys. It's has an o-ring seal that waterproofs it and prevents the fluid from evaporating. Unlike butane It'll work in artic conditions.
@@texasaggiegigsem what fuel are you using?
Michael Williamson I have one of those as well and it’s great. Good to know it’s always there on my keychain.
Simon Hopkins I have the same thing and I use Zippo lighter fluid.
@@simonhopkins3867 Zippo fluid
Awesome tips there Lily! I generally use a ferro rod. It's really easy in the desert but can be difficult, like you said, in more humid climates. For that reason I also carry a tiny jar of cattail fluff or similar tinder.
Hi Lilly !!! Your new puppy is beautiful ! Very happy for you !
You cleared up a lot of things for me concerning these fire making methods. Excellent video.
When taking youngsters on a forest "Camp Out", I always teach them how to start a fire. And I've taught kids to use both these items with much success!
PLUS; the kids get a great dose of confidence in themselves!
Great info as always Lilly! You're awesome!
thx für den vergleich- tolles video!
WELL DONE Lilliy! VERY clear demonstration of something I always wanted to know. GO Amy...SooOOOooo sweet! Thanks for this...God Bless!
Great video. Solid advice on fire making tools and seeing Amy is awesome!
Great video again Lilly! Thanks!
Super Demos liebe Lilly! Schönes Wochenende noch, Sepp
I can see your new assistant is a great little helper ! Enjoy you both ! Great video.
Nice demo/refresher Lilly!
Grait stuff like it. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Great video, Lilly. Thank you.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!!
I love your vids always fun to watch - very informative
Wow! Thank you for explaining it! I love your videos, very quality content and you do amazing and not an easy job!
Great advice keep these video's going strong
Thank you for all the info and fun.
Thanks for the great info videos
Lilly,
I really want to say again what a great team you and Amy will be, especially if you let her bark. You know of course that Amy like most dogs can hear and smell things way beyond us . That ability coupled with her barking could save your life both in the woods and even in your home.
You're fortunate to have her as your dog, and she is fortunate to have you as her human.
Looking forward to the two of you in more of your videos.
That thumbnail image was gold. I laughed so hard when I realized you had your knife's spine ready to strike a lighter XD
I love your APO-1H. The case that comes with it right now is really cool. Also, thanks for the notebook and the sharpener that came with the package!
Great video. Love the dog!
Amy=a beautiful bundle of Joy!!! I can see she is VERY intelligent and a Fast learner. Gorgeous coat too. Looks like you both have bonded well!
Great job. Love the kit.
.
Thanks! I wasn't aware that plastic could be used like magnesium.
Thank you for your videos. I always learn 😊
Thank you Lilly! ☀️
Great video! I have learned alot by watching your videos.
Nice. Good info!
very helpful info especially regarding the Mg bar. I wasn't sure HOW exactly this was used so this was very informative.
Very informative, thanks for sharing 🙂👍
I have never done this, but they used to say that you could light a car tire with the magnesium fire starting bar.
But that is something that I have never tried.
Thanks for sharing your videos. And keep up the good work.
You're a great teacher Lilly, and Amy is so adorable!
I always carry my dog with me when camping..... because a camper and a dog under a wool blanket, is warmer than a camper alone.
heck yeah!
Thanks for the info. 💖
Such a good review!
What a great video...There's a quick to dry your wet lighter...roll the rollers on a dry cloth few times until it sparks again (make sure to roll it the correct way or you'll damage the shape of the flint and it may not work again)...it took less than 2 minutes to get the lighter sparks again by using this method...
Good stuff to know! Thank you!
I keep a bottle of magnesium shavings in my fire kit, a ferro, extra mag bar and some fatwood my lighter, Fresnel lens too.. You can scrape the magnesium on to duck tape to keep it from blowing away!
Love your dog😍
Good video.
Here's a tip - I paint all of my fire steels (ferro rods) with brightly coloured nail varnish. This does 2 things, firstly it stops them corroding which they will do very quickly, secondly it makes them much easier to spot if you drop them anywhere.
@Aramis3737 They will corrode quite quickly if you leave them somewhere damp, then they will just crumble away. More Kochanski has an excellent video about Ferro rods - he calls it a metal match, in which he goes over the use of the rod and various tinders. It's quite a long video, but you'll know more after watching it than before.
I love seeing you outside with a dog again! Dax is smiling down on you two from heaven. Amy is adorable and seems to be very intelligent. Great video on comparing fire starters.
Thank you for info.
Cool video Lilly 😎 thanks
A brilliant trick with the plastic in the lighter... never would´ve thought of that. Nice video as always, thank you :)
My first reaction, when I read the video title, was that you should replace the 'vs' with a '&'...
Then, when you showed the fire kit, I realized that you see it that way too!
Excellent video! Great demo!
PS: Amy is the star .. such a cute fur-ball!
wonderful video Lilly So glad your still doing them Content was Great, I've bought a lot of your offerings Already have the fire kits in all my vehicles. when i go in he woods i have a small pack with everything you've taught me you are my favorite Survival teacher.
Good job Lilly... Thanks Cheers!
Love your videos, the new puppy is adorable, i look forward to seeing you both in future videos
Thanks Lily, you're awesome!
You don't see a lot of people use magnesium to much any more. Still a good peice of kit. It was the first thing I used to start fires not including lighters or matches. Cheers Lilly. Great video!
I love your videos thx! I ordered the APO1 firekit with my new APO1 hunter... Can't wait to train with it how to make fire wooohooo :)) you are amazing and the APO1 is a beast allrounder knife - well designed Lilly!!!
Good tip on shavings off the lighter. Thanks.
Guess a flame thrower would be too heavy to carry. Puppies are always curious. So many ways to get fire. Steel wool and a little 9 volt battery. Bright sun and magnifying glass. Always be prepared. cotton balls work well. Great info video Lily as many will now be able to create fire for their outdoor adventure. Thanks for sharing. Have a super grand day.
Very good, thank you for your interesting and educational video :-)
Great video Lilly. Agreed, you need more than one way of making fire, purifying water, making shelter….. There is a saying in the Army, “One is None and Two is One.”
I use all 3 of those ...plus bow drill, Blast match and a perminate match...there are several kinds I carry but the most used is the... Bic...
lighter
THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION ... MANY BLESSINGS
Maaaad props for the design of the knife!! The fire starters are small; pack your lighter, and a back up method. No one should have to rely on only one.
Good work Lily!! Keep it up!! You should come back to Canada and tour Algonquin Park!!
Thankyou Lily and Amy😉👍
That is a nice video and it gives the viewers much information on using the firesteel, and the other two techniques to start a fire. I have two sets of survival kits with the firesteels and strikers in each one along with other items I need for survival and I also have a lighter in the backpack also to use to start a fire. Thanks for sharing this information with us. I love your companion and she reminds me of your other companion and I know you still miss him.
Thanks Lilly. Your video helps.
I love your video's so much . You are the best. 😘
Awesome video Lilly, thank you so much! just a question, if you do this scraping regularly with the flat side of your cool knife, would it get damaged with each use ? and such a beautiful puppy!!!
Nice informative video. Thanks for sharing. Didnt know the trick with the plastic for tinder! Thought you were making a joke when I saw the pic at the start of the video.
OMG Amy was channeling Dax. Thanks for the lighter tip and clearing the fire stick and magnesium bar use up.
Lilly, I love the puppy!
Thanks so much for demonstrating the magnesium fire starter. I'm impressed by how well it works on damp tinder.....when all else fails! I'll carry mine ALWAYS now. Because you never know!
Great video, my friend! 😁I generally carry all 3 (as I'm sure lots of people do). I enjoy making a fire with the fire steel and tender/wood I've processed with my knife, but if having trouble getting one going I'll add the magnesium shavings (only using my lighter as a last resort)--but that's for enjoyment, not a survival situation obviously. Loved the video and Shared with my Facebook friends as always 😊✌
And, Lilly, always, always, always carry a candle with you in the woods.
Bonjour So which one is the best ?
This reminds me of her Alone Wolverine days. Awesome knife and how to video as always. Have a great day.
Thanks Lilly. Great demonstration. As always, Amy is adorable!
Very impressed with your channel never give up
Thanks Lilly
You are the best
Hi Lilly...we luv you dog!...great video we can all use!
Outstanding presentation 🍀
Good explanation especially the plastic as substitute tinder and great puppy
I have found lighters floating in the ocean and after half an hour or two of drying they work again sometimes only spark and sometimes only gas. Fire steel works every time, even wet. More reliable, but less efficient. So I put both in my kits.
Fire steel doesn't float in the ocean though. That's why i always carry lighters. ;)
Thanks, Lilly. I didn't understand the value of a magnesium bar. I do now! As always, you are the best!😎
Birch bark burns even when wet, because of the resins in the paper, pine sap helps start fires too.
Another problem with propane lighters is that they stop working in low temperatures here in the Canadian winter. Keeping it in your pocket gives it a few minutes of useful life.
Whenever I'm out in the bush I carry my Bic and some assortment of matches and cotton balls impregnated with petroleum jelly. I carry several good folding blades that have proved their selves over the decades. I also carry my Roscoe.
Great demonstration of different ways to start a fire 🔥
Lilly you are a amazing wonder. Great video.
Hi Lilly, I love your products especially your knives and want to get one but with shipping and after the money is converted, its very expensive to get it here to Calgary Canada. I wish there was a better option to get your products in Canada. I wish you luck with your growing business.
I never carry a BIC style lighter for the reason you mentioned (if wet, no workee). Instead, I carry Scripto/Cricket Piezo lighters. You can take them right out of that creek, blow the water out for a couple seconds, and they will light right up.
A possible emergency supply for magnesium during a SHTF scenario, or a TEOTWOAWKI event, is those burning red flare lights that are used for emergency road flares used on the highway. Often called "fuzees" in America. The magnesium is in the center of the paper tube. I think they would be available everywhere.
Really good video interested in the knife as well
If all you can find is wet wood after its been raining, then, you need a road flare. One twenty minute flare will start soaked wood in less than 15 minutes. However, a flare is useless when wet.
Thanks.
Thanks I never understood the difference
I didn't know about scraping the magnesium. Thank you. God bless.
I like my magnesium rod and my fero rod but really love my flint and steal which is my favorite way to start a fire. I do carry a lighter with Gorilla tape wrapped around lighter. Awesome video my friend.
