On listing to music, get a record player and some records. It really forces you to be very deliberate. You even have to lift and lower the needle, and change sides when it comes to an end. It's helped me cure my dopamine thing. Good luck team.
On top of all the things you said in this video- breaking the concept down into bite sized pieces and the amazing insights you provided, I really appreciate how empathetic you are. You're not sneering at people who are overwhelmed and you're not contemptuous by any means. This felt like you offering a hand to someone to get up off the ground, not a leery "what are you doing on the ground? get off your lazy ass", but a genuine helping hand. So thank you for that. I love your content. Excited for more.
Thanks!! I started reading a novel a month and doing art which has made me more focused. I bounce back and forth between wanting to delete social media it’s just hard for me because I have so many memories saved and shared.
I really needed this. Never thought of seeing it as nutrition for the brain. Eating healthy comes easy to me but I literally spent 10 hours watching Jail and What Would You Do clips on my phone yesterday while doing other tasks like chores/ walking on the treadmill and even my homework and self care💀 I hate existing like this 😭
Just stumbled upon this video and I'm so grateful for it! Hope it is watched by many more people. You broke down a very complex solution into doable tasks brilliantly! I have been in a bit of a funk lately(finished a job contract, about to start another in a few months) . My job was very mentslly engaging but for the past two months I haven't been able to feel like myself.Nothing is intentional during my day and I have to make effort to even hear what my body/brain want. Two days ago I went to the cinema after months and realized how much more I enjoyed it over scrolling and just mindlessly letting Netflix decide my watchlist. Being intentional with fulfiling your needs is key.
guys is it worth it ,all of this ,I have been forcing self improvement on me from 3 years now and all i have encountered is a deep sense of self hate in the process, sure I have improved a bit but idk if it is worth it anymore....
maybe you could consider looking at it less as self improvement and a "fixing" you're supposed to force yourself, and more as true self care (which does not equal self indulgence and looks more like taking concious actions for your well being) and nurturing yourself from a place of patience and, if you can't really call it self love yet, at least a bit more of tolerance and compassion. like taking care of a wound, you don't force it. it's definitely not easy, and not fast or as pretty as we would like it to be, but it is totally possible. and maybe you're doing better than you think, just by caring enough to choose change. that by itself it's already worth it and something you should not hate yourself for. sorry for the long ass paragraph lol
It depends on the context of your “self-improvement”. Does your self improvement involve the David Goggins wake up at 5am and beat yourself up every time you make a mistake or miss a workout, or is it something like what is mentioned in this video, a balance between learning and entertainment that is sustainable with practice. Truth is all the stuff he mentions helps, but you don’t need to journal or write essays or anything (all great suggestions btw), you just need to get away from doomscrolling. There is a lot of recent studies that show the link between lack of motivation and high levels of dopamine due to incessant scrolling. You don’t need to completely change as a person, you just need to get away from stuff that is genuinely damaging to you. He even says in the video stuff like TikTok and IG reels are all ok as long as there’s reason to it. But if you’re scrolling 2 or more hours a day there’s something really wrong and it’ll just worsen your self image if it continues. You shouldn’t starve yourself of dopamine rather reward yourself for getting that bit of work done, going to the gym or some other thing that isn’t immediately entertaining. It all depends where you’re at in life.
It was worth it for me but I didn't go crazy with it or anything. I just put 10 minute time limits on social media, started getting my full 8hrs of sleep, stretching, working out, counting calories, guitar, reading and photograpy. That seems like a lot, but you'd be surprised at what can be accomplished when you're not on your phone 7hrs a day
i just watched a 50 minute long video essay without checking my phone but im so cooked that i had to take a break at the 30 minute mark to just stare at the ceiling dunno why tho
Hi josh, I think the one thing that stops me from putting the work in to fix my brain hygiene is that most people don't care to do it. I can't relate to the vast majority of people who overstimulate themselves, I think its shallow, and it makes me isolate myself and then feel lonely.
so my friends read this book called Magnetic Aura and they all started acting way more confident-one got a job they didn’t even apply for, another’s meeting all these amazing people who actually lift them up. it’s like something shifted in their vibe, not in a flashy way, just subtle and real. it’s wild tho, this book keeps getting removed so fast cuz it’s apparently too powerful-good luck finding it if you’re curious.
Lol, spot on. His advice is even more impactful because he seems to embody his own advice in so much that the confidence and his cadence of delivery are flawless. Good message man...cheers to Dr. Czuba
You need solitude--not being alone, but periods of time where you are free from the input of other people. Meaning, you're not consuming anything that someone else has created. No music, no reading, no watching videos, no conversation. Go for a walk without your phone. Go do yard work. Sit outside and drink a cup of coffee. Go to the gym without your headphones. It's not hard to find the little moments of solitude and even better if you can purposely manufacture them.
Had a habit of playing something on longer car rides ~ music, podcast, something ~ Past couple years it's not a habit anymore but something I do occasionally. It's a trip how zen a commute can be without that kind of stuff going on. So many different and interesting sounds.
Thanks for this man - I'm probably a decent bit older than you but equally as brainrotted as any zoomer lol. I miss those days when I used to read novels and just lay in bed and listen to music. This is a great way of thinking about our overstimulating world. I'm going to start straight away.
you ever meet someone who just has this natural vibe, like they’re on a different level? i found out most of my friends like that all read Magnetic Aura and they swear it’s not about pretending, just being real and not letting negativity drag you down. it’s wild how hard it is to get tho, keeps disappearing everywhere, but maybe that’s what makes it worth it
The original Secret Life of Walter Mitty with Danny Kaye is an EXCELLENT movie 👌🏻. Danny Kaye is my favorite actor of all time! Ps I feel spoiled by suddenly getting multiple new videos from you! You are one of the most inspiring channels that I follow. Thank you so much for your content. It has helped me a lot to be more productive! I struggle a lot with executive dysfunction and task initiation.

Josh, I just wanted to say that you're one of the most well-spoken, authentic people I've found on this platform. Your video about leaving home helped me start making some intentional, lasting change in my life. Your approach to behavioral change is straightforward and compassionate, which is refreshing in a world of hustle culture. Do you still run the Seeker Society? I tried to sign up, but the page just kept giving me a 404 error.
i used to think all these energy books were just hype, but then i heard about Magnetic Aura from friends who suddenly seemed calmer, more in control, like they weren’t letting stress or negativity mess with them anymore. it’s not magic or anything, but i can’t ignore the changes i’ve seen in them since they read it. it’s hard to track down tho, so if you’re curious, you’ll need to dig a little.
not gonna lie, i wasn’t into this whole “energy” stuff till my friend handed me Magnetic Aura-she wouldn’t shut up about it and now i see why, everyone i know who read it seems more chill and magnetic in this effortless way. it’s not a magic fix but it definitely hits different. finding a copy is a hustle tho, they don’t stick around long
i thought Magnetic Aura was just another self-help trend till i saw how it’s lowkey transformed my friends-like they’re way more grounded, confident, and people just wanna be around them. it’s not fake or try-hard, they just seem real and magnetic now. it’s tricky to find tho, gets taken down quick, but worth hunting for
Automatic dislike comment when somebody doesn't realize that this guy deserves to get paid for how great his content is. Since you're not paying him how do you expect him to make any money? Thanks brilliant for paying this brilliant guy.
im exactly who and what im supposed to be. a mindless, soulless, and confused flesh drone who only takes orders and consumes. Just as my parents, school, and society wanted me to be.
