I think the implication with the zombie one is that the narrator was trying to get the girl into the van to protect her from the zombies, not to do anything to her. The first sentence sets us up to think the narrator is a predator, then the plot twist is that they were trying to save her. But I could be wrong, maybe both choices would have ended badly.
