Hey, congrats on the run! I've also spent some time doing county memorization-- I refresh my memory every summer going back at least 3 or 4 years now, and the best full run that I've recorded is a few minutes under an hour and a half. It's nice to know that there's someone else out there crazy enough to do this. I love the commentary because it's really cool to see the counties through someone else's eyes. You said that Tennessee was like an easier North Carolina for you; for me it's the opposite-- North Carolina is one of my best states while Tennessee gives me nightmares. I also couldn't agree more about Kentucky, I think it's the combination of having generic county names and having neither an ordered grid structure nor remarkable county shapes-- it's just full of blobs. I assume you used some sort of mnemonic device-- did you focus on individual counties or did you group them into sets/clusters? Do you have any favorite county names or overall states? I'm partial to Washington and Minnesota, they both have their fair share of fun ones. Respect the grind o7
Hello! Under an hour and a half is actually insane, it would take me so much longer to get to a point where I knew all of them that well. That's interesting what you had to say about Tennessee/North Carolina, I'm not exactly sure why North Carolina gave me so much more trouble, I just remember it taking me so much longer to learn. I also feel so validated knowing that someone else also hated the state of Kentucky 😂. I was so ready for an easy state to learn following Iowa and Kansas, and was completely blindsided by how Kentucky wasn't any better than either of them. Regarding mnemonic devices, I think the amount that I used them varied from state to state. With a lot of the smaller ones (Connecticut and Rhode Island for example), it's easy to just brute force your way through memorizing them without much thought. As for the other 40-something states, I tried grouping counties into clusters and learning mnemonics that way. An example of this would be in Arkansas, where Ashley, Bradley, Calhoun, and Dallas are all in a line at the bottom of the state, so I remembered there being an A-B-C-D chain in that area. The states that contained a lot more square-shaped counties definitely relied more on mnemonics for me to remember, as some of the counties look exactly the same. Iowa was one of the worst offenders of this, and I would try creating stories to link the counties together. For example, my "story" for the bottom row of the state reading left to right was "Feel free (Fremont) to page (Page) Taylor (Taylor) that her ring is made of gold (Ringgold), catered (Decatur) by Wayne (Wayne), there is also a noose (Appanoose) from David (Davis)". The last two counties don't make any sense in the context of that sentence, but it's what I used to remember them. I don't think I have any favorite counties, but I definitely had a lot of fun with the states of Alaska and Georgia. I had a lot of fun coming up with mnemonics for Georgia, and even though the state has way too many counties relative to its neighbors, I found its difficulty to be more fun than frustrating. Thank you for the comment!
That was the original plan when I started learning the counties, but I figured about a quarter of the way through that there was no way for me personally to ever pull that off. That isn't to say that it isn't possible for somebody to do it, I just knew that I wouldn't be able to 😂
Woooo algorithm boost like and comment on the video and like and reply to this comment Absolutely love this video, insane dedication and great storytelling throughout. Keep it up!
Believe me, I got really sick of it in the second half of the states, but I figured I just had to push through at that point. And I agree with what you had to say about your state, I didn't know any of them in my own state until I made this video lol
nice (also it felt like since I live in Cambria county, PA, [dont dox me love you] it felt like all the other counties in PA were getting eliminated and I had to be the last one left to get a prize or something. Sadly I was not
I just found you in my recommended. Dude I've been looking for ages for someone else who can do this as well. It feels so good to not be alone in being able to do this. Well I'll be honest...I'm not perfect, my best is like around 2579 out of 3142. But I can also tell you the politics of every single county.
As a Geography nerd, I've thought about learning every county before. A couple months ago I learned most of the counties in the North East, but with the exception of New York and Pennsylvania, they were all easy ones. I don't know how you managed to learn states like Texas and Iowa, but kudos to you. Maybe this will motivate me to try again with this (or maybe not, seeing all you had to do). Keep up the good work.
The main struggle for me definitely came from staying motivated instead of the difficulty of the challenge itself. I think that if you can stay motivated, it's definitely possible for you to do it!

It might make the postal address confusing
Although it does make sense cuz it'd be like having the same first and last name
