    These videos were recorded entirely with this camera -
    Sports:
    • Grace vs. St. Francis ... and • Lancer Athletic Podcas...
    Various Shots With Partial Low Light:
    • Video and • Video
    The camera records as AVCHD to an internal hardrive and also has the option for recording onto an SD card. The internal 60gb hardrive can fit about 6 hours of video with the camera set to the highest video quality.
    I would also add that the battery life in incredible. I've never come close to running out of battery.
    Another downside would be no XLR inputs. But that's somewhat to be expected at this price point. You can purchase an XLR attachment for around a couple hundred dollars.
    Tripod: VCT-1170RM -- $250 eBay
    Camera Light: Aputure AL-160 -- $30 eBay
    StreetWires ZN5XF35 mic extension cable -- $20 eBay

    I use 3.5mm extender leads for the Mic and LANC sockets - that way the actual camera sockets will see very little wear and tear, This is because a 3.5mm jack system not as robust as an XLR connector.
    Also the best fluid head & tripod for my money was a Fancier FC-270A at around $230/£150 delivered - The zoom issue was resolved by a $35 LANC
    The addition of a 4" lens shade/matte box is essential in sharp low lying winter sun situations, as for low light I will post some footage

    @jugglingwithjohn  11 лет назад +1

    The camera has 1/8in mic input (also called "line in").
    It works with XLR mics if you buy an adapter.

  • @shaunreinson
    @shaunreinson 12 лет назад +1

    For time lapse just record in 'normal' and use your NLE suite to create the effect. In FCPX you just need to speed up the footage - works a treat.

    Hi Michael, I unfortunately didn't have a lot of time to put this together. Showing me with the camera would have involved getting another camera to shoot it plus correct lighting and a decent backdrop for the video.
    It was either audio only or don't do it at all. I thought this way was better than nothing.

  • @jugglingwithjohn
    @jugglingwithjohn  12 лет назад

    1. Yes. It has a 60gb internal drive but you can also use an SD card if the internal drive fills up. I think you can also set the camera to recored directly to the SD card but I haven't tried that since I always just use the internal drive.
    2. Yes. You can plug in a mic with an 1/8 in port. There are also XLR adapter you can purchase for $150 or so.
    3. No digital zoom. Why would you need one? A digital zoom does the same thing that zooming in with any editing program will do.

  • @jugglingwithjohn
    @jugglingwithjohn  12 лет назад

    Good question. The camera has no internal mic. Some kind of mic needs to be plugged into the 1/8 inch port on the front in order to get sound.

  • @jugglingwithjohn
    @jugglingwithjohn  12 лет назад +1

    It does sometimes. You can see my videos at RUclipsDOTCOM/alookatlego that show a blurry background when I zoom in on something.
    I'm actually not a huge fan of the DSLR type look where the background is blurred almost all the time.

    I've never seen anything that actually states this but from what I gather shopping around and doing research on this camera the E version is the PAL version and the U is NTSC

  • @jugglingwithjohn
    @jugglingwithjohn  12 лет назад +1

    The sounds is pretty good from the stock mic. But obviously it's not going to compare to a studio music recording mic.
    If you're serious about music, you'll want to purchase an additional mic.

    The LCD is a bit small for me, looking for at least 5in LCD monitor, but the budget is tight now so will think of that later.

  • @jugglingwithjohn

    I just looked up the ebay listing. The tripod will be pretty much useless with this large camera. The battery included appears to be a 3rd party one that is much smaller than the original.
    The camera would no longer have a Sony warranty and you'd be stuck with just the seller's warranty.
    The lenses/filters might be useful. But I always found filters too much of a hassle to use and I never saw a real need for them.
    If I was looking to purchase this camera, I would no buy from that listing.

  • @picturedlife1

    The xlr cable was $8-14 dollars on amazon. I got the $29 lanc remote. It has a clamp that you can attach to the panning handle of the tripod. I also bought a Neewer
    160 LED light, dimmable for $36. I also bought on a whim a Letus mini i got used from ebay. Wanna try how the video looks with the DOF adaptor.

  • @jugglingwithjohn

    I believer Ryther was the place that sold the camera with a smaller battery and no Sony warranty. Give them a call and double check.

  • @donaldbradley7374

    I don't know what to say either. I bought it on Ebay. The instructions where for a VCT-1170RM but there is no way this will work with the HXR-2000U. Even the support people at Sony BSSC told me it will not work. .....I have know idea.

  • @jugglingwithjohn
    @jugglingwithjohn  12 лет назад

    Yes. You can set the fram rate all the way up to 1000fps.

  • @picturedlife1
    @picturedlife1 12 лет назад

    yeah, look up XLR to 3.5mm on amazon electronics, you'll get the picture. Maybe you're talking about the beachtek xlr adaptor. It attaches under your camera, it has a built in tripod plate. Its expensive but you can control the sound that comes in the camera. The xlr cable I think will just allow you to plug into a sound mixer if example you're in a concert or church event. Pardonr my sentence construction.

  • @jugglingwithjohn
    @jugglingwithjohn  11 лет назад

    B&H has it for $1699 and (like I said in the video) they are awesome to work with.

  • @jugglingwithjohn
    @jugglingwithjohn  11 лет назад

    Hi!
    For a church, I'd suggest you look at the considerably cheaper Canon M500. Though the camera is much smaller, the picture quality is actually better than the MC2000U.
    Don't ever use the digital zoom on a video camera. It will result in much lower quality. If you want to make video larger, you can always zoom in on any video editor program.

  • @jugglingwithjohn
    @jugglingwithjohn  11 лет назад

    I would have loved to show the camera but I didn't have time to do anything more than audio.
    I thought getting this up was better than nothing and would hopefully help some people out when they're looking for a review.

  • @picturedlife1
    @picturedlife1 12 лет назад +1

    Thanks for that john. I'm about to buy one this week. What is the lens thread size if in case I will use a letus converter? And can you change the recording mode? Like 24p/30p? Thanks again for the review. very helpful.

    Gotcha..well I'm sort of a fan of the effect...just checked out the Lego video...it was nice and very interesting....my next question...if you were doing film or video...which one would prefer to use? The Sony HXR-MC2000 or an DSLR camera?

  • @donaldbradley7374
    @donaldbradley7374 11 лет назад

    John, after watching your video, I purchased the tripod model, VCT-1170RM. It is not compatible with the HXR-MC2000U. I called Sony BSSC and they agreed that the tripod will not work with this camera.

  • @picturedlife1
    @picturedlife1 12 лет назад +1

    Thanks for the review. How's the audio performance without the meter/controls? Does the sound blow up or whisper all of a sudden? Does the camera adjust quickly to changing sound environments? Thanks.

  • @jugglingwithjohn
    @jugglingwithjohn  11 лет назад +1

    So the piece will screw into the camera but doesn't fit onto the tripod?
    Whatever the case, the problem is not with the tripod but rather the connecting piece. You need to get a different size. Did you buy it used?

  • @JasonDPhotography
    @JasonDPhotography 12 лет назад

    yes, it does. you can shoot a 5 second smooth slow shot.

    The tripod? Yes.

  • @jugglingwithjohn
    @jugglingwithjohn  12 лет назад

    Sometimes I'm a fan of the super shallow depth of field like most DSLR footage has. But not always.
    I'm not an expert by any means, but in my opinion a DSLR would be better for film work. Most short films you see on RUclips or other places are filmed with DSLRs. Film type work is actually what they're perfect for in my experience.
    A lot of it just depends on your personal preference and what works for your individual situation.

  • @jugglingwithjohn
    @jugglingwithjohn  11 лет назад

    Absolutely. You can use the camera with any standard tripod.
    I will tell you that a cheap (under $100) tripod will not give you a smooth image. The camera is too big for those. I have the VCT-1170RM and it is very nice.

    There are enough comments about this being a good small camera in a big plastic cover - so often a slight from those that misunderstand its purpose, I have owned and still use one and I can clearly tell you that trying to do ENG work with a DSLR really isn't a patch on this model or the newer 2500 model. Why? simply because this camera has an ENG form factor but without the tedious weight of the larger diecast bodies, so it is also ok to lug around when doing a one man interview, certainly it is shed loads easier than holding a DSLR in somewhat unpro poses - DSLRS need tripods or cumbersome shoulder mounts that defeat their small form factor advantage. DSLRs also have 3.5mm ext mic jacks - but your shoe will be used and you would need a "tree" for lighting etc, and then you DO need a decent shock mount whereas this model has a dedicated shockmount. and TWO cold shoes! and there is also a headphone output - unlike DSLRs. Now I would definitely recommend getting another mic and I regularly use the HTDZ range - dirt cheap and well good for interviews using shotgun feature, another great bit of kit is a wireless mic but DO NOT be fooled into buying the very cheap ones, you should consider the Sony ECM AW4 because you will get TALKBACK feature and because you can run the receiver via a Beachtek mini for excellent quality audio control, So, basically it is brilliant for interviews and TV Eng work and very good as a studio camera, again another feature is the rigid mattebox, worth plenty of money when you consider how a DSLR needs tarting up to do the same job. I could bullet point just these few features but I am sure you will get the picture, and yes, I also own a DSLR - by Sony ;0

    • @jugglingwithjohn

      huntingtigers Thanks for the comment! This review video is from 2012 but I still use this camera all the time for ENG-type work.

    I have the Canon HV20. It was extremely popular about 5 years ago as a high quality but cheap tape consumer camcorder.
    I definitely think this MC2000U is an upgrade. But it's also about 6 times the size of the HV20.

    How well did it do in basketball? I am a freelance journalist and video producer. I believe the form factor is important. The sell point on this one for me is the 200FPS slow motion mode.

    I mean the small clunky sounds when moving the camera. I adjusted the audio rec from normal to low, and it lessened the clunky/plastic/empty sound. The body was a bit slippery to grip. Maybe bec it's still new. Great video quality btw, even in low light. Have you tried an XLR to 1/8 cable? I ordered a non-sony lanc remote control but haven't tried it yet.

    If you're wanting to make short films, I would suggest buying a DSLR camera.
    This camcorder I reviewed will work but it's not going to be nearly as good as a DSLR for filmmaking. Do a Google search for "best DSLR" and find a list somebody has put together recently. They are as cheap as $300 and less if you buy one used.

    I actually have wondered the same thing. :)
    The only difference I can find is that the MC2000E is sold mostly in Europe while the U version is what we have here in the U.S.

    i need one of this for church, but our church is big John, i need more then 12x zoom, my question John is: maybe you zooming after 12x zoom maybe until 20x, do you lose quality video after 19 or 20x zoom?.
    i like this camcorder but i need at least 17 or more zoom, because my Christian Church is big, or maybe i can cover 17 zoom clear without lose video quality, because this camcorder has 160 Digital Zoom, maybe can work for me. Thanks for your replay, or if somebody know about this.
    Thanks.

    Then the guy you bought it from must have been using it with a different camera. You need to find the correct size connector. I would call B&H and figure out what that size is called. Or you might be able to find it in the specs of the tripod listing.
    It's not that the tripod doesn't work. You were just sold the wrong connector.

    • @jugglingwithjohn
      @jugglingwithjohn  9 лет назад

      Hi, Mohammed, the cable is the StreetWires ZN5XF35. It works REALLY well to use the shotgun mic that comes mounted on the camera with the extension cable. You're essentially getting a nice handheld mic for only the price of the extension cable.
      Look at the interview videos on the BeyondtheBrickTV RUclips channel. They're shot by me with the MC200U and all use the mic that comes with the camera along with this extension cable.
