    That is a good question of how much will the consumer bear?? With the increased price of everything else the consumer is not surprised. With the increased cost of honey production something has to give. Thanks Bob for the video and info.

    What do they contribute the bad year to? Too much rain?
    I know here in Central Texas, we had a lot of rain in 2021 and had a horrible Honey year. I haven't been beekeeping long enough to say "It's the worst it's ever been", but I did hear from other beekeepers around here, that 2021 was the worst it's ever been around here.

    I'm in kentucky and just a hobbiest beekeeper for 7 years but I have around 70 fruit trees and one thing I noticed this year, we had such a warm winter that bees were flying most of it. Then in the spring everything was already blooming 4-6 weeks earlier than normal and the bees hadn't even started really building up on populations yet. I had an unexpected swarm in february which just seemed crazy to me. Then, this is the first time in 7 years my peaches, pears, plums, apples, and blueberries didn't bloom at all. Although elderberry, lemons, blackberry seem to be doing ok so far. I pulled honey about 3-4 weeks earlier this year than I normally do and thought it was going to be a great year but have since realized not much more is coming in... also seems like the spring flow ended 3-6 weeks earlier than normal. Its also been dry here and we finally got 1/8" of rain last night but I'm not too hopeful that will mean anything. We just had an entire week of mid-high 90 degree weather that we normally don't see until July.

      @@bobbinnie9872 I agree, I am just baffled. A few days ago once I determined my apples also weren't going to bloom, i started to think about why. I suspected maybe the orchard didn't get the required "chill hours" so I started looking to see if that data was available online or not for this year. Even though we had an extremely mild winter, sans the week of christmas, I guess the nights were cold enough to create enough chill hours for them to bloom. Then I started thinking maybe I missed a frost because my peaches were loaded with buds but then no bloom and I could only find the 1 day in march others have mentioned. I didn't observe a frost here but that doesn't mean I just missed it because it melted. A march frost shouldn't have affected an apple bloom which usually occurs for me in may-june but my apple trees don't even have flower buds on them.

    Hey Bob thanks for answering my questions lately. I wanted to ask do you ever have problems with ants or usually are ants just around the entrance etc or on the cover but not actually in the hive? Because the bees would attack them? Do you find ants are not a problem unless they’re actually found inside the hive? How do you guys deal with them.

    • @bobbinnie9872
      @bobbinnie9872  Год назад

      We do occasionally find ants building their nest under a hive or even under a pallet of hives. One of the first things we notice is that the bees are more defensive because they are constantly battling the ants to keep them out. The only ant they don't seem to be able to keep out are what we call sugar ants that are very small. Everything else they can keep out. We don't hesitate to put ant granules on an ant hill if we spot them. I don't like killing things but in this case I do.

    Here in Virginia Beach, VA, it's been my best honey year. Local honey at the farmers market is selling at $20 a pound. Now that may bee inflated due to the buyer.. local farmers market catering to the larger city crowd, but it's still been my best year. Even the local bee club had a member report 25 gallons of honey from 18 colonies collected so far. Don't know what that translates to poundage wise...
    Of the 16 colonies i keep, starting with 6 at the beginning of the year (using your advice), I look to harvest at least a full medium super from each and some 2 or more.

    Bob, I’ve seen this truck driver in one of your videos before. Unless something amazing happens I won’t harvest near as much honey as I did last year. I will definitely have more than my immediately family will eat and the Bible says God will supply our needs. If I don’t have enough to sell any then thats fine. I’m a hobbyist beekeeper and I would be sad if I didn’t get a couple of gallons for our own consumption. However, I do feel bad for the folks that makes their living from honey if their crop is short. In that case if a lot of big producers fall short then I expect the price to go up. The old supply and demand rule will kick in!

    Hey Bob! I have a question about taking honey production from within a single box without using any super. Can we install two vertical queen excluders after frame no 2 and frame no 8, and seperate the brood chamber from the harvestable frames (frame no 1,2,9,10) and let the bees give us super quality honey from within a single box? Here in India Beekeepers often don't use a super as they claim that often the flows are short and not very strong to fill a super full of honey! The super does work during strong and sustained flows like mustard/canola, but not often otherwise. Can this idea work ? Please give some advice about this slight change in design. If successful, smaller and less strong flows can also be targeted, and it may vastly benefit smaller Beekeepers here in india! Regards 🙏
