    Great video as always! Thanks ! I just had a spark plug blow out of a Kohler flat head engine. I needed to put a good insert in for the spark plug. The two step tap it came with chases the old threads out first than cuts new thread a little over size for the insert. After the old threads chased out and tap started cutting, the bottom tap was hitting down inside the shallow head! So I taped up the bottom tap and cut half the length off the bottom piece to allow tap to thread the hole for plug insert! It worked perfectly ,just like you did to not bottom out with your drill on the air fuel jet under the Welch plug! Threaded in stainless steel insert and plug and motor is running fine now. I just started using a center punch and love them! I never realized how easy they make life and how affordable. Just drilled and tapped my old fxr with some 10 \24 screws. Used center punch and got nice clean holes!

    Nice job Shane. You're a great teacher and mentor. Have watched many of your videos on CV Carbs over and over. They're really helpful and very thorough. After rebuilding tons of Waldro 2 cycle carbs, I thought I'd try my 98 FatBoy stock carb. All I can say is Thank you! I'd be missing parts if it wasn't for your advance warnings.

    I did this today and I didn't see this video until now, so it was a trial and error procedure for me. I was successful by using the smallest drill bit I had with my small battery powered variable speed drill on a very slow speed setting. I could feel when the bit broke through and I was able to stop in time. Then I used the next larger drill bit and then a third. I couldn't get a small screw to engage the threads in the plug, so I used a tiny pic. There are 4 pics in my small set and I used the curly one that fits underneath O-rings. I went slowly around the plug with the pic in the hole and it came out easily. Total time involved was less than 15 minutes and the screw head was untouched. Guess I was lucky. Anyway, I'm old and I have a lot of patience.

I have a CVK-20 that for the life of me I can't seem to tune lower end. idle is too rich and i tune to fix but my takeoff will be too lean and lower range. I thought perhaps coasting enrichment circuit that supply extra air to pilot was clogged but i have cleaned it out multiple times now every single part looks perfect every single passage clear. Im hoping this will sort the issue. Im curious why they have these welch plugs there? is it to make people make sure nothing else is wrong before adjusting? haha

    Thanks MR Conley, your lessons are top and you look at things deeper and make sense to why,but I’d like to know why were Welse plugs needed for an ‘unused’ screw,or passage.? If it’s unused then why do they go to the trouble of making them in the first place,?
    Are we removing them to increas fuel air. At the choker or are they just to gain access to the screw for cleaning out the passages?

      You're asking the wrong fella on short cuts friend...I ALWAYS do them...😀It's more of a it will cause it not to run correctly, hard to start,,,etc. You can usually get an engine to run with a clogged fuel mix screw by chocking it and flogging the throttle, but just not run correctly. I can help you one on one too. See below. Hope this helped.

    Gotcha.. thanks!.. I've been adjusting that screw trying to find the sweet spot on my GS550. Pretty sure they're the CV carbs. Does that screw only adjust the fuel mixture during idle or does it effect top end too? Bike accels well but when i put on the throttle it sounds like it spins out at the top end and doesn't increase power. (sounds like gargling basically). Is this the screw I would need to adjust to fix this? If not what should be adjusted? Another thing to note is sometimes I hear a hiccup come from the carbs. know its from the carbs because when syncing the needle jumps on one or two carbs, not sure if its related.

    Once the welch plug is out, do you need to replace it with a new one once the needle has been cleaned or replaced? And what do you recommend on how to adjust the needle to it's original position (or tuned position), ie; counting turns, a mark or something, and should I put a drop of blue (non-permanent) thread locker on the needle to keep it from shifting? I know, lots of questions, but I want to do it right. Great video, Thank You!

    Not air screw is a fuel screw, please edit your title to not add to an already misconceived notion that this is an air screw like is on the air cleaner side of a 2 stroke carburetor which is the AIR SCREW and adjusts air.

    • @How2Wrench
      @How2Wrench  8 лет назад

      +Bruce Kennedy
      The title is correct in there are "air" screws with emission caps out there are well on engines. I would think you could tell I speak of the "fuel mixture"screw I demonstrated on. The title is to open the search to multiple parties that might be looking for the information.
      Hope you found some use of the actual intent of the video, I wouldn't know as you only found time to reply with fault found...lol

    • @200xcBruce
      @200xcBruce 8 лет назад +1

      Oh I am enjoying all your videos for certain. Didn't mean to single out anything. I just know from experience of 40 years that many if not all people are confused about the difference between the fuel metering screw on a four stroke vs an air screw on the two strokes. I watched another of the videos, I think CV carburetor tear down and cleaning where you clearly explain the difference. No negativity intended. Your students will be great mechanics.

      I learned a lot about the Keihn FCR carb on my son's WR250 and the affect on running from having leak jet in bowl sized too big and lean bogs occurred. Once I reduced the leak jet size, and adjusted the fuel squirt timing it ran really well.
