That's 17 cups of coffee for Graham ($0.20).
      17 x $3.50 = $59.50 (her)
      17 x .20 = $3.50 (him)
The difference is marvelous. That's why he's wealthy. They take it seriously. While people like her brush it off and giving in to impulse buy or what not.

@@srreal4821 It can be a bit frustrating when incredibly wealthy people slag off anyone who buys coffee though. There are deeper economic problems than that small expense.
I earn £925/month. I do buy coffee; once a week I go to a cafe close to my flat, buy a coffee, and either read a book or write for a couple of hours. It's the best money I spend all week, and cutting out that £2.50 is not going to make me a millionaire.
Graham isn't wealthy because he doesn't by coffee, he's wealthy because he owns a vast amount of real estate.

Agreed! I just finished up my masters degree in social work and I’m making literally double what I would at a bachelors level simply because I have a masters degree and qualify for those jobs now. And once I finish my supervised hours and pass my clinical board exam (done in about 2 years time and only able to be done with a masters degree), I’ll be making triple of what I would at a bachelors level by my mid 20s. Masters is critical for a social worker if you either a. want to be working outside of an agency child welfare job or b. want to make more then an entry level teacher salary or both.

It started around 10 years ago and many people who should qualify for it don't because of extremely strict qualifications that aren't clear at all. I think 5% of people who applied were accepted. I’m not a millionaire and I doubt I will ever be, but I pretty much do what you suggest to do, focus on paying off debt (student loan / mortgage), keep a strict budget, cook and eat in, get a pay rise and save the difference, save in general, search for the deals and discounts etc etc. My colleagues think I’m mad but I’ve managed to buy my first house in my 20’s, go on holidays at least once a year, renovate my house, have nice things and live comfortably. I really wish schools can teach us to save and handle finances. I’ve found that money is disciple.

My question is: How the hell is she making qualifying payments of only $60 a month when she is on an income based repayment plan at $70,000 income? I make less than her and am paying far more per month on the REPAYE plan. Just doesn't make any sense to me.

A CSA is where you pay for the season ahead of time, then pick up fresh produce every week or every other week depending on your plan. Usually around like $20-30/week for a lot of fresh local, often organic fruits and vegetables, so it's often a good deal. Her food spending seems totally reasonable ($215) even if she said she's splurging on higher quality ingredients or occasionally getting an iced coffee. I would just wonder how accurate that is if she doesn't keep a budget, and is possibly forgetting to add up little purchases.
The Paypal thing gives me major anxiety though because I know SO MANY people who have gotten banned from Paypal's platform for no real reason and without warning, then your money is just sitting in limbo for several months. What if that happened to her and an emergency came up in the meantime?

According to the pie chart, she pays $60/month on her loans, which is still ridiculously low, but I think it's going to bite her in the @$$. This payment plan became available a little over 10 years ago, and many of the first people who "qualified" through the full 10 years are receiving letters stating that they no longer qualify for loan forgiveness. Even if she does benefit from this repayment plan, she'll still need to pay income tax on any remaining balance the year they are forgiven...

That first comment she made, that you think makes no sense is terrifying. Let me explain it to you:
Equality: You and I both have equal opportunity but not equal outcome. So if you make better choices than me and become richer, good on you.
Equity: You and I have the same outcome. So if you make better choices and become richer than me, the money has to be redistributed to assure we are equal.
This is a major issue in modern society where people demand equity over equality, usually arising in matters finance, race, and etc. In that it's not about giving people equal opportunity, it's demanding equal outcome regardless of effort. It's a dangerous ideology that is all too common with people like her who are clueless.

@@lwolf101 Saying it about anything makes the same amount of sense as saying it about money. It's a fiction where we assume everything is magically successful instead of requiring work, effort, and skill. Yes, luck helps, but it's by no means the end all be all.

For grad school, some just want to be in academia all their lives. A lot of people find it very fulfilling and can still be financially stable. I guess I see what you're saying, but for some people, "ROI" is much more than just the money.

Your reaction to her saying she used PayPal for savings surprised me because I thought that was a good idea but I also didn't know about high-interest savings accounts...THANKS!

A CSA is a community agricultural club where you get food delivered to you weekly. She's not storing veg for that long, she gets them delivered each week for 26 weeks.

Graham, I watch your videos religiously. You've helped me so much to identify some of the areas i have been failing miserably at in my financial life. After recently acquiring my first "career" job where i make "real" money, your videos have helped me to rethink my lifestyle, desires, goals, spending habits, savings, etc, etc. I am also struggling with debt tremendously this year after several poor financial decisions that have been an uphill climb to address before destroying my credit (which has been a 5 year struggle to rebuild from sub 450 with a 30-40k/year income). After turning to your videos, and obtaining my new job, I have managed to pay down nearly $10,000 in overdue bills, personal loans, and credit card debt over the past several months. Thank you for making your content! You have changed my entire outlook on life as it pertains to finances and spending habits.

Actually for a lot of us in healthcare (social work, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, clinical psychology) we are required to get advanced degrees in order to work in our fields. You would be surprised how many of the health professionals you meet are over 50k in debt for their degrees even if they attended state/ lower-cost public universities.

I used your Robinhood link and my free stock was SiriusXM, which was cool because I listen to Sirius every day. Then I shared with friends and have three more free stocks already. Thanks for sharing!
