@blacknester for fps games you will need a real pc with heat sink the size of the mac mini and graphics card bigger than the mac mini if you can buy one.
@@Garrettthebanana I don't think so. It sucks for gaming (few games are compatible with the architecture used by the M1 chip). Great for productivity though.
I think this may be a defective unit. I manage over 200 Macs as a Mac Administrator and have started deploying M1 Macs on Mass. We have seen maybe one or two Macs with an issue like the one you are describing. My daily driver is a M1 Pro 16" hooked up to a Apple Thunderbolt Monitor with a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. My suggestion is to have Apple replace the logic board, I am willing to bet your issues will go away.
I had the same issues with display. All you have to do is go to settings, than energy saver and check “prevent Mac from automatically sleeping when the display is off”. And everything works as it was supposed to. Hope I helped 😄
Key fix: upgrading to 11.1 (from 11.0.1). To get a Mac display to become active, you need the Mac to query the display, and the display to answer with its name and capabilities. Otherwise, the display will not be shown as present, and no data will be sent to the display.
This query is only sent at certain times: • at startup • at wake from sleep • at insertion of the Mac-end of the display-cable, provided everything on that cable is ready-to-go • on invoking Option-(Detect Display) button in Displays preferences (from another display, such as the built-in)
so try doing some of those things and see if the display comes alive. Modern Displays with multiple ports are sometimes busy scanning the other ports, looking for an input, and miss the query from the Mac. They need to pay attention to the port you are actually using, or they will miss the query. Some displays have On-Screen Display settings that can be used to tell the display a computer is attached on a certain port, or a certain port should be highest priority. Changing those may make your display more responsive. Some displays include their own private "sleep" settings for the display alone. This can allow the display to enter its own sleep mode, on top of the Mac's not sending it data. A display that is sleeping on its own cannot respond to the Mac's query, and will stay dark.
This is a great response and it’s full of useful info! 👍🏾 I just got a new M1 Mini and have had this issue with the display going to sleep and not waking up after. I will give this a try! 🙏🏽 😊

The problem you are having is that the Mac mini has a Broadcom Bluetooth Low Energy module, which also does WiFi. Most mice and keyboards do NOT support the Low Energy protocol, and your mouse will reset because it sees the low energy signal as a dropout. A loss of mouse also freezes networking, as this is a non-maskable interrupt. Logitech clearly marks which device has Low Energy support on their web site. If you don't like Bluetooth Low Energy, then talk to the consortium.
Wait, so I want a Mouse that supports low energy or one that doesn't ? What about the keyboard ? What about a logitech unifying reciever via usb? Would that solve the issue?
I've been using an mi mac mini and I can say from my side, I haven't gotten any of the problems that people have said. No Bluetooth issues and my dual monitor (4k 27" and 34" UWD) comes right up. I really do believe the bluetooth issue being widespread, I just personally ever had that, this is my first time hearing about a monitor issue.

I bought Mac Mini M1 with 8GB RAM because of many video reviewers said that 8Gb is quite enough. But when I open developer tools like Docker, any code editor and start my playlist on RUclips in a few hours (sometimes one or two full working days) I get interface freezes because of SWAP file operations throttle my SSD. There is the only one way to stop freezes - you need to reboot your Mac Mini. I've heard that the reason is applications based on non Silicon architecture. My last check of this issue was in November 2021. So I don't recommend M1 with 8Gb RAM for software developers.
Yeah, I got 16GB RAM because I was worried about experiences like that! A lot of reviewers have painted the picture that the 8GB RAM model is fine for most anyone because of SWAP. That might be true, but since I was coming from 40GB of RAM on Intel, I wanted as much RAM as I could get.
Open docker desktop and reduce ram in settings. But yeah VM memory does not compress well on MacOS. I have the 16 GB version and I absolutely do not recommend the 8GB version for heavy Java or VM usage. The SWAP isn’t any faster than any other NVME drive so there is no magic happening.
@@Craylor 'Coming from 40gb of RAM on Intel, I wanted as much RAM as I could get' so why go for a Mac Mini M1 with only 16gb of RAM? I would have thought that if you wanted as much RAM as you can get you would have either stayed with what you had or gone for a Mac Pro and then you could have had hundreds of GB's of RAM. In reality you just don't like the Mini, that's fine we cannot all like the same things, and one computer cannot and will not ever be the answer to all our needs due to the diversity of tasks that we need to carry out. But to call the computer a dumpster fire has to be the words of someone who has ended up putting himself in dumpster and is desperately trying to crawl out and regain some credibility, unfortunately you failed.
I found an article suggesting that to run two monitors via M1 Mini, you need to run one HDMI and the other USBC. Also yes check the caliber of the cables.
I bought an M1 Mac Mini last year when my heavily-upgraded 2008 Mac Pro died, and I'm really happy with it. The Mini is extremely fast and responsive. It's my everyday work machine: I use it for articles, reviews, manuscript editing, research, emails and managing and playing my music library, so nothing particularly processor-heavy. I also use it for gaming: Hollow Knight, Hades, Limbo, INSIDE, Superhot, Bioshock: Remastered and even Sleeping Dogs and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided all run extremely well on the Mini. I've encountered very few issues: I occasionally get a weird green-screen crash, but only rarely, and these crashes decreased in frequency once I upgraded to Monterey, which I imagine is better-optimised for Apple Silicon than Big Sur was. I also hardly ever use Bluetooth; indeed, I use a USB wired keyboard.
I have the base model M1, and it’s incredible! I can run Logic Pro, my UAD Apollo X twin, and superior Drummer at 32 buffers! No clicks, no dropouts, no issues at all
@@fernandoperez9025 It's sad but it's true. I love using Apple products, but after having spent way to much money "trying" to force myself using Mac software to build up games, I came to the conclusion it's enough: a PC rig will bring you the software you need to build games, whichever is the publication plateform: UE5, Unity, DAZ, Reallusion, ... WAY MORE stable on PC than M1 (when they actually work...) and I don't even speak about VR development: completely impossible on Mac now. And last thing to consider: it's better to use the same hardware than the gamers to develop and test your game. And no gamer will buy the Mac Studio just to play: too expensive and no AAA games available (+ most of the gamers are teens, depending on your target of course, and they don't have the money and the will to spend $4000 on a gaming machine).
When you connect your 2 monitors and Bluetooth mouse/keyboard to your M1 Pro MacBook Pro everything works properly? You were not clear about this very important point in your video. I am thinking about getting a 14" M1 Pro MacBook Pro and I want to connect 1 or 2 external monitors to it and use a keyboard/mouse when I am at home. I want to be sure that all the M1 Mac Mini problems you described are fixed in the Macbook Pro. Are they? Thank you.
Not sure what the rest of the video complains about, but I've been using my M1 MBA to edit 4K videos in Davinci Resolve with no problems at all. It's even smoother at playback than my Intel i9/RTX desktop most of the time with 60fps timelines... which for what it is just blows my mind. It's not as fast to export, but it's still very impressive.
Yes, I don’t understand either. He complains but at the same time he’s impressed. I love my $699 M1 Mac Mini, no issues with playing, doing my school stuff and recording audios. I love it.
Your explanation is great but as student in Iran as someone is going to use one monitor and keyboard and mouse with cable your problems are not a big deal for someone like me and I am interested in it.
My 2013 Mac mini does the same. Sometimes I turn the TV on and it's... green. So I have to either turn the TV off and on again, or remove the HDMI cable and plug it back it. Crazy shit from Apple. Same with the bluetooth. I can SEND things FROM the Mac, but I CAN'T send things INTO the Mac.
I have 2 identical 27" Samsung curved monitors hooked up to my Mac Mini M1 and have had no issues with them. One is connected via HDMI and the other uses a USB C to HDMI adapter. However, one of my friends connected his Mac Mini M1 to a TV with HDMI and had a number of problems. After he used my suggestion that he switch to using a USB C to HDMI adapter the problems went away. I suspect it was a compatibility issue with HDMI. The Mac Mini uses HDMI 2.0 through it's HDMI port. My guess is that when using the USB C port it might have downgraded HDMI to be compatible with his TV. If you do some research on compatibility issues with HDMI as I did you may be able to solve your display problems. The Apple Bluetooth keyboard and mouse that I have work quite well with the Mac Mini M1.
I have the monitor sleep problem with my Intel mac mini as well, in my case I have one 4k display one regular 1080 display, it's always the 4k monitor that exhibits the problem, I have to either power cycle or switch inputs and then it works.... Leads me to believe it may be an OS thing rather than a hardware thing...
WOW!!! I thought I was the only one with the Monitor issues... where it wakes up and only one works. Or even the sound does not work and I have to reboot. I am hoping this can be brought to their attention and this can be fixed with a patch or release of some sort. THANKS for confirming it is not just me!!
I can tell you from my Mac Mini 2014, I FOUGHT with the displays. It was so SLOW in initializing the displays. I'd have to just let one initialize and then plug in the second display. With the M1 Mac mini, its still slow but nothing close to the shitty experience with my 2014 do the stupid display dance. As for bluetooth, if you have your phone next to these things, it lags and sometimes stops working. Not unique to M1, by any cheap bluetooth dongle for a PC and you'll have the same issues. I just avoid bluetooth altogether, I know it not an excuse but I'd just never had good experience with it on any device.
I have had multi-display problems with all the intel mac minis I’ve ever owned. Same problems you mentioned, except I never figured out the exact dance. So i set my mini to never sleep. And the displays to never time out. I just make sure to activate the screen saver when I’m done every day. I’m about to get a mac studio and I fully plan to do the same thing with it.
That M1 Mac Mini only supports up to 6k (per documentation) try changing the secondary monitor to 2k rez and see if that fixes it. I have the same m1 with 1 of the same monitors and a 1080p gaming monitor and never have any issues. Also try turning off sleep mode and just have it turn off the monitor.
I get what you mean about odd quirks like this. In my case, I bought two Mac mini M1s and use them fully remote, on LAN. I found that the onboard nic would just become unreachable on BOTH every few days, and I’d have to unplug and replug the Ethernet cables to get them to connect again. I then bought two usb c to Ethernet nics, hoping this would solve it, but no, I have to unplug those every few days as well. Even tried port channeling the onboard nic and the usb nic, but no, still couldn’t maintain connectivity. So I deal with it and unplug and replug them every few days because they’re still an amazing processing value for the price. Side note: it is a joke that the base model is 8gb. The os alone always runs between 4 and 6 gb for me, so 16gb ram should be the minimum spec; not the upgraded version!
I have had a few issues with my monitors when using the M1 Mac Mini; both you mentioned. The weird visual's when booting up happened when using my old TV (which I was getting rid of but it did come by surprise) where the graphics of the Lock Screen would repeat it's self horizontally, but this issue would fix it's self in less than 30 seconds. And when either turning on or booting up the Mac from sleep, one of the monitors would turn on while the other just... wouldn't, but this would fix it's self simply by moving my cursor to the other side of the screen. And when it comes to bluetooth, I've also had no issues. Sorry to hear you're having problems with it. It's become my favourite computer I've used, but I've never encountered these issues and I can imagine how stressful it can get.
The monitor issue is with your set up I have dual 4k monitor set up 1 samsung 1 acer and I do not have any issue also my mouse and keyboard logitech sculp and no issues not even 1 time so I do not have those issues with my set up
Had the same Bluetooth Problems on most of my machines. Solved itself when I switched from Wifi to LAN Connection. I think my Router is spamming the 2.4ghz Band und screws up the Blue Tooth frequencies.
I use mine for mostly for Logic Pro, i have the base model 8gb with 512ssd. It is one of the fastest computers i've ever used. Especially for audio production... Bounces entire projects in seconds. This thing absolutely rips. I came from a quadcore I7 mac mini previously.
@@palaHD I use Trillian, Addictive Piano and Alchemy... no glitches and CPU useage is low. Pleasantly surprised. With my old Mac Mini, Trilian, Piano and Alchemy and drums you would have to start freezing.
I used a M1 Mac mini for nearly a year and it was absolutely fine. Got it just to hold me over until more powerful Apple Silicon arrived. A used Mac mini is probably not the best basis for apple having a quality control problem with M1.
You say it's all Apple controlled stuff, but all your problems seem to come from interactions between the mini and non-Apple devices. That is: the non-Apple screens and non-Apple bluetooth peripherals. Not that this is an excuse, it's Apple responsebility to make stuff that their computers work with a variety of external peripherals and displays. Personally I consider non-Apple bluetooth devices to just be unreliable in general so for if I'm not using Apple input devices I always use a dongle and not bluetooth. Haven't had any problems that way. I do pretty much the same for screens (it's why I like the iMac), and if I ever get a Mac that requires an external screen I'll probably use one of their official monitors (provided the come enough down in price).
This is probably one of the best points I've seen in the comments! As mentioned, I have used the monitor and peripherals with other Macs no problem, but you are totally right, those things aren't controlled by Apple.
I bought the m1 mac mini the week it was released. I did have the blank display from sleep problem (only use a single 4K LG monitor) but the problem is gone now (software update?). No other problems.
I think the problem might be more of a like batch problem, like maybe a batch or two and ended up getting messed up, which makes sense because the dude that owns it before (because this is a refurbished or preowned Mac) probably had this problems with the Mac befor too. Now I did recently buy a Mac mini with a M2 Pro. I specked out this thing with upgraded RAM storage and ethernet port and it was pretty expensive not gonna lie. I personally have my own Windows computer and don’t use Mac OS or any Apple Mac at all and this was basically my first Mac. So some people might think it's a dumb reason, but the main reason why I upgraded and bought this was to be able to host and plot hard drive for Chia farming basically crypto mining, but a different kind. And yes, this is dumb but It saves me a lot time plotting and saves me some power and I essentially plug in hard drive enclosures to the USB-C ports in the back which for the Pro models they have 4 USB-C ports. But overall this thing, was great and I’ve had no issues so far. So for me personally except for the big hole in my bank account, I'd say I don't regret this. 😊
I’ve been using Mac mini M1 for the last 2 years and I love its performance. It’s fast and client. The only issue I’ve experienced is that I tried to open a 16gb excel file and the computer crashed and rebooted. The windows sometimes are very hard to move to the other monitor. Overall I’m very happy with the Mac mini m1.
I recently purchased a M1 Mac Mini contected to a full hd 1920x1080 60hz monitor and unfortunately am experiencing blurry/ jagged text. Is there anything that can be done to solve this problem or anyone recommend a 4k monitor?
Got one... Use it for everything at home... Demo Music Production with Logic Pro X and FL Studio, use it also for some light gaming with LOL and Sims 4 and for daily Browsing, WhatsApp, Telegram, watching Videos... No issues and the best pc I've ever had. Use it with a budget monitor, and Logitech mx master 3s and mx keys... Works fine.
You are spot on with these issues as I experience the same struggle waking up my single 27" 4K monitor. I would love to see you review the Mac Studio and confirm if these issues still persists.
I do have issues with windows moving around when waking up on my Mac Studio. Some displays also will not respond and turn on. Overall it’s still great. These issues besides the windows moving upon waking are non much of a bother at this point. The system stability is legendary.
I'm using it a lot for audio stuff and I've bought two different interfaces trying to isolate a nasty buzzing problem .. It's the Mac .. why the hell can't they power these things with 3 pin power cords? It's ridiculous ... the mini's have grounding problems. This is the last Mac product I buy.
We have 2 m1 mini, m1 pro Macbook pro and a few m1 pro iPad .. so I have experience some of the problems. The bluetooth issue seemed to get better over time with updates and I can't tell you in the last year when it happened.. it fairly does.. but I can tell you certain power cables close to the mini seem to cause Bluetooth problems and some times it was the number of bluetooth devices by it. For instance Corsair Bluetooth mouse, Bluetooth keyboard no problem, connect my Bluetooth desktop monitor speakers and if the track pad or mouse are 2 close to the mini it breaks up the audio...🤷🏾♂️. Solution just to move the mouse or track pad from being close to the mini. Later mounted the mini on vesa Mount to the back of a monitor and now zero problems as the antenna isn't facing down on the desk. Also my mini never had display issues connected to 165% gaming monitor and LG 34in ultra wide... Never ever missed a beat. My wife's mini spazzs hard connected to a 1440 32in LG and curved Samsung 1080p monitor... So it is dependent on the monitors and the way they are connected. Overall probably still the best computer you can buy for the price period... Not as fast as my m1 pro Macbook for sure on 4k video edits, but... Still more than capable though for people on a budget.. just be away of power cables and Bluetooth device placement..

Just get a displaylink dock.... You wouldn't have the display issues (displaylink drivers instead of apple drivers). USB Mouse + Keyboard also seems like a good solution for low latency, I've experienced loads of bluetooth issues with other devices as well, I generally avoid bluetooth mouse/keyboard because of it, even though it is pretty nice. Basically that would've solved the issues you had with it.
Hey @CraylorMade - Christian!! Did you try resetting the SMC and PRAM? When you got it, did you do a full factory reset through the recovery portal? There are several terminal commands you can run for this issue. One makes sure the connection is kept alive for that device. Make sure your power management is at full. Sometimes Bluetooth is finicky since it runs on 2.4 Ghz. Do you have the Mac on 5 ghz or wired? is there anything around it like your phone or watch that you can change to 5ghz? There are settings on your router you can change also, it depends on the brand. Hit me up through DM or email if you want to try to troubleshoot with me. If you still don't like it, I might buy it from you :)
Hey Chris! I haven't reset the SMC or PRAM, I definitely need to try that. My Mac is wired to Ethernet as far as internet goes. I do have a lot of smart bulbs in my house operating over 2.4GHz, perhaps that is part of the issue? I've just never had these issues with past Macs put in the same exact scenario.

I always wait buying a new system. I'm working a lot with pro audio software, like Logic Pro. My intel quad core MacBook Pro is fast enough! It's more stable than M1 Mac's, because all audio plugin's are native intel based and the base software is still more stable on intel. I will wait a couple years. Audio software doesn't need that much power.
Sounds like you need to get a recommended HDMI cable. Also, sounds like you want the base Mac to do all your 4K plus video editing. The Mac mini has always been a machine not designed for super heavy work loads. Also I have a base Mac mini M1, hooked up to a 43" Hisense TV, I can watch HDR on safari, do all my office work etc. No Bluetooth issues at all.The trouble is you creators want everything from a 699.00 machine. I hate to say it, but creators are probably less than .001 percent of Apple's market. Apple knows where their bread and butter is. Even if you use a windows machine to do 4K editing it will cost you way more for even a prebuilt windows desktop.
I used two Asus ProArt 1440p displays with the M1 Mini, and I was very disappointed when I discovered I couldn't use them both through a quite expensive Thunderbolt CalDigit Thunderbolt docking. The M1 can support a 5k monitor over thunderbolt, but not two 2k which is less than that 5k resolution. I ended up using a single monitor because of that. Even with a single monitor, getting it to wake up from sleep took forever and the experience wasn't what I got used to with Apple. I then decided to go with an LG Ultrawide monitor. That monitor has a vertical resolution of 1600, so a bit more than 1440p, but with the way MacOS handles scaling, the image is not that great. It's not bad, but I'm shocked to say that my Windows work laptop renders much better on that monitor. Not only that, when I put the monitor to sleep in mack OS, it shuts down for a few seconds, but then the backlight turns back on with a black screen and it just doesn't turn off again. That doesn't happen when I put the monitor to sleep on Windows, and I can't find a way to get it to just shut down without simply turning it off, which is also annoying, since it turns off the docking (the monitor shares all my usb devices with my windows laptop through Thunderbolt). Might sound like a minor complaint, but because of the docking aspect it takes a little while for everything to turn back on, and for the money I paid on that setup, it's just frustrating. The lesson to learn here, is that buying an Apple product like a Mac mini and pairing it with non-apple product like an LG display might just not be worth it! I'm sure with their expensive monitors the experience must be flawless, but anything else is crazy hit or miss!
Thanks for posting this. Ive been very seriously considering buying one of these , my pc is old and becoming very clunky to use, so have decided that its about time to change. Ive only used wired peripherals so far, wireless has always made me a little skeptical. From what I can tell, its the metal shell of the mac mini that is blocking a lot of the bluetooth signals… would you agree with this in your experience? The plastic trim on the lower part of the base is said to contain the antenna… do you think repositioning the device in another location would help? Or is it mainly a software problem?
I don't have or experience what you are experiencing. You Think Apple didn't factor in the interference with their choice of materials? The this current era, mostly everything is wireless, if it doesn't work they try what you must do, what you can think of is what people will ask you to try
Just look at the YT users who are getting superb performance from their Mac Mini M1's, yes everyone can get the occasional glitch, this video is just a clickbait rant, if the issues were so prevalent then every video about the Mini would be the same, they are not. The guy states that he has a superb iMac so where is it, if you've spec'd out a $2600 computer with 40gb of Ram then why not use that? Wish I hadn't watched this rubbish.
I have similar display malfunctions with my intel based MacBook Pro. Bluetooth is also flaky sometimes on other computers. These are annoying issues, but it’s nothing to get angry about, and it doesn’t make the m1 mini TRASH.
At one extreme yes it is frustrating. At the other extreme, we have to look at the fact that the only reason the mini exists is to give Apple a sub $1000 desktop, and in doing so yes there is a lack of ports. yes you will have small quarks that occur which can be very frustrating. Yet for the price, you are able to run a multi monitor system relatively smoothly overall with just minor issues which tend to pop up at the wrong time. Good news is the issues you are experiencing will probably (or have been resolved) with software or firmware updates.
I had similar displays issues with my Intel based mac mini (late 2014). I guess it just doesn't like non Apple approved displays(?)... But at least heating problem is resolved, since Intel one easily overheats, sometimes to the point that it stops working (gaming for example). Nail to the coffin was destructive OS update experience: some apps disappear or need to be reinstalled, more restrictions every time, etc. I must admit it is difficult to gain trust for Apple afterwards but those silent and pretty powerful Apple CPUs may push me to give it a try again.
Hi, glad I found your video. I see you use LG monitors. I have LG 27un880 w mac mini m1, and the image on the monitor is just so "intense" and hurts my eyes. Tried to change everything monitor-wise. Did you change some settings ont he monitor or something because I find this M1 unusable...
Good video but I don’t know. I’ve had my Mac Mini M1 for a few months now and I’ve never experienced any problems. I’ve been using it daily and no glitches with the monitor and no bluetooth connectivity problems in the past three months for me.
I have one 4k monitor connected to hdmi and the other using display port also 4k and I’ve not faced any issues. Probably is the cable set up I have since I use DP cable
I am just sitting here with my Mac Mini M1 and cannot decide which brand dual 4k's I am gonna buy..because of these Dual Display problems. So apple hasn't fixed the sleep wake monitor issue till now :( sad..
I have only faced problems with the bluetooth arguably, but everything was 100% solved after Monterey. Ok it took them almost a year.....but it has been no-fuss and VERY speedy so far for home office use on a 32 inch 4k monitor .
It seems like the HDMI output specifically on the m1 mac mini has problems with coming out of sleep/wake. Other users have noticed this over the past couple of years on quite a few occasions. Try using a thunderbolt video connection instead of HDMI - you may need to buy an extra thunderbolt dock to make this happen, but it won't be a lost investment - you'll want it eventually anyway when you upgrade your system.
You need to adjust your energy saving mode: in Settings > Power Adapter, check "Prevent your Mac from automatically sleeping when your display is off". Unless you live in an RV or yacht conserving power, or in a third world country watching power consumption like an OCD, this will solve it. Always good to research before arbitrarily deciding your hardware sux. Entertaining video, tho...
m1 seems to have some issues with internet, especially WIFI. But even wired downloads of movie files die quite often. For months my m1 mini would frees on Apple messages. It would open one message then clicking to open more would do nothing. For a while the menu bar if you set it to auto-disappear would not come up when you moved you mouse over the area. In general mouse-over wasn't working right for months.
I have two outputs: type c thunderbolt) to acer 2400k 32" & hdmi to 4k LG 50". Does shit sleep function but the LG always wakes and I just have to turn the Acer off and on. Not enough of an issue to scream over however.
Disagree. My Mac mini M1 is whisper quiet, runs cool and edits video on Final Cut Pro like a champ. And got in on sale with $80 off it. It runs better than my MacBook Pro.
Most macs have Bluetooth issues. Just buy a corded mouse and keyboard, I did, and my Mac mini had absolutely no issues since I bought it. I'm glad I switched from windows to my first Mac, ie the mini, after my pc crashed for the last time. The Mac mini works like a dream by comparison
My Mac mini was trash too. Wi-Fi didn’t work. Apple replaced it with a Mac mini, also defective, Bluetooth didn’t work. I sent it back. My account fell into a black hole. The telephone support told me a refund was on the way. Weeks have passed, no refund. What TF is going on at Apple?
I don’t have any problems with my base Mac mini M1 , it runs circles around my 2012 Mac mini 16gb ram 1tb ssd. If your not running M1 native apps it’s going to be slow, all of my apps are M1 native so don’t have any problems .
I think it's clear that apple's multi-display driver or arrangement or software or something ... has a few bugs. Or sleep mode. Everybody is complaining about that. I use a very old Ipad PRO (some of the first versions) through USB cable, and even then, even without sleeping, it has random cutouts. Screen just freezes. You disconnect, reconnect and it's all fine. It's annoying. But I'm hoping they'll fix it in a next software release. The thing is, the hardware is all there. And you see it perform stellar most of the times... but bugs. Still, way faster than a raspberry pi (which you need for some things), not as electrically consuming as a PC. I use my mini to run 2 virtual machines. One is my router, one is my server. Mail, web, sql, the whole 10 yards. It can run those 2 virtual machines, and I can enjoy the mini with kodi as a media center. And for me, its perfect. Its not as phat as a pc would be, but also not as weak as a raspberry pi would be. it's just the perfect size for the perfect job. for me...
The Mac Mini is definitely a great value. I now use a Mac Studio with M1 Max, and I haven't had a single issue with Bluetooth or display drivers. The I/O is also much more capable. Apple nailed it with that one.
- M1 Mac mini is considered to be an entry level Mac meant for office productivity task and light video/photo editing yet people are complaining about the lack of ports and slowness. - You're editing a 4K video out of it of course it will slow down. I'm not gonna mention also about the codecs and format of the video you're using. - Bluetooth issue is a known issue and not all people are affected by it. Maybe its a batch hardware defect - Just sell your Mac mini and wait for the M2 or the Pro/Max in it. Problem solve
I've had 0 issues so far EXCEPT my 2nd monitor wake up every 10 min or so while the PC is asleep unless I manually turn them off. However, this is an issue on all m1 mac's.
@@ismagine - I do. It’s superb. It’s just a shame you have to pay so much for internal storage, but the internal storage is way faster than anything any external drives will give you. I’d recommend going above 256GB if you can.
@@Station9.75 great thanks, my eyes are on a 1TB and 16gb is it a good choice or overkill? I’m doing photography and starting video on Premiere. That’s why I want to try it out since my laptop is slow for video. Do you use Premiere Pro?
@@ismagine - I have used Premier and it’s works just fine. My main software is Final Cut Pro though. Again, works flawlessly for me. I actually have the 1TB, 16GB model as well. It’s surprising how quickly the 4K files mount up because they’re huge. So I do think 1TB is the way to go. It’s noteworthy that there’s a 6 core GPU and 8 core GPU model. Best to go for the 8 core although I’m not sure it makes too much of a difference honestly. It’s just better for resale-ability.
@@Station9.75 thanks, all I see in the Apple Store is the 8core version. A basic iPad Studio is $700 usd more expensive but it’s the M1 max with 24-gpu core. So I’m trying to see the value on the mini with 16GB/M1 processor
The Mac Mini is a great productivity machine, but like many first generation products, it has its issues… I avoided the M1 products for that reason. However, I may jump-in with M2…
The former intel Mac Mini had the same issues with monitors. I sold mine. It just would not work with some monitors! Was never solved from Apple either. Long threads about it at the apple support forums.
Of all the recommendations for the M1 MAC Mini, this is not going to sway my decision. Obviously, you have specific issues with video editing and Bluetooth problems. Fo the average user that does not do video editing, this thing is great. Yes it does have an issue with Bluetooth but it can be easily remedied.
I have also wake up problems, but on my M1 Pro MacBook Pro 16", and only if closed shell and used on 2 (!!!) external screens If i use only 1 screen, typically the TV over HDMI directly, no problems. And i completely get the M1 Mac Mini is pretty "bad"... only the fact that you get for 2x the price a lot more performance AND A AWESOME NOTEBOOK with a 14" M1 Pro!
It's trash if you use it for serious work. After over 30 years of having Macs I decided to begin leaving the Apple ecosystem because unless you go with a fully specced MacBook Pro (which now is around $6K in Australia) these ridiculous little boxes are not worth bothering with. Unless you run one process at the time (playing a video game, watching youtube) it's just deficient. I am a programmer and I can tell you that if you use Xcode and have Preview open with just a few documents, the keyboard will start to lag and the bluetooth dies. Also the bullshit about the "Unified memory". I went for the top spec with the M1 Mini and it's using the same amount of memory as my new machine, which is a custom PC. To get the same specs in Apple I would have had to go all the way to top spec Mac Pro at AU$23K, while with my new machine I only spent $3.5K!! I tried to reason with Apple as I have AppleCare +, but they totally stonewalled me. The computer turned on so nothing to see there!! They made me wipe out the machine and then opened a bunch of apps to show me that everything was hunky dory and I was imagining things. You can't even trade in the damn thing - check for yourself at the Apple website (perhaps that's different in the US, but here is Australia you can't even trade in the Mini) This was always Apple game plan - they lured in a bunch of gullibles with their spiel of the M1 "revolutionary" chip. It does nothing revolutionary at all, in fact activity monitor shows you that just by having a few things open the memory pressure goes right up to yellow and it's using the swap in your hard drive. it's a piece of junk and the AppleCare+ will outlive the lifespan of the machine. BOTTOM LINE: stick to MacBook Pro or other much more expensive Mac models than the Mini if you actually need to do productive work and can afford it. If you just surf the net and use it for light stuff, you might be ok with the Mini. The graphics are great. It seemed too good to be true, and it was.
You are 100% right about the static screen when waking from sleep. It got so annoying i just save and shut down. Maybe just using the thunderbolt out ports fix this, but I haven’t tried. Hopefully an OS update fixes this. I can also say the same about the bluetooth cause I originally had my BT mouse on a usb hub. The glitch is eliminated when I plug the receiver into my 2008 usb wired mac keyboard😅. In conclusion you shouldn’t have to do these things in 2022😒
I'm new to the Apple ecosystem as I got my first mac (Mac Mini m1 256 gb hard drive and 16 gigs of ram) back in December of 2021. I got brave and downloaded Final Cut Pro 90 day free trial today. Watched a lot of tutorials on FCP before I started to use it. Between all the lockups I was having, I did managed to get a 1 minute and 22 seconds video clip out with some transitions and text effects.. I'm a Davinci Resolve user on windows and pretty much just do simple edits and don't mess with fusion to much. Thought I give Final Cut pro a shot, but the only advantage FCP has over Davinci Resolve is the text pre sets it has. Other then that, FCP has no advantage over Davinci Resolve. Actually, Final cut Pro on this mac mini m1 is a disadvantage ( in my case ) because of all the lockups while using Final Cut Pro. I'll stick with Davinci Resolve. I'm guilty of getting into this Silicon m1 hype. Thought I try a mac to see if this hype is true. With all the problems I had just to get this thing registered with apple and the problems with being able to screen share sound and video in Discord, not sure all the aggravation was worth it. I was told that "mac just works". Certainly, not in my case. I did get those issues resolved in Discord and other then the lockups in FCP, it is running pretty well now. I was going to try a Blue Tooth mouse and keyboard but not after all the problems I'm hearing about it. I will try Davinci Resolve on my mac mini m1 and see how well it works on it. I forgot to mention that I was only using 1080 video ( and still get all those crashes ).
Wouldn't you know that how many ports and what are the bandwidths for them before buying it? Even after watching all those other reviews? My lost 10mins...
Yes, that's why I said "I knew what I was getting into" and gave it a pass. I tried to segregate the things I found weren't ideal for my use case (too slow for my needs, not enough ports) but were "normal" functionality vs. the straight up quality control issues (2 monitors should work smoothly, Bluetooth mouse and keyboard should not have connection issues).
I love my computer tho I must say my only issue I had with this M1 Mac mini was sound through my HomePod mini, it lagged. I said screw it because for me its not easy to return, so I found a work around and I'm good, I see ur point great video
I have the m1 mini 2020, im about to just sell it because i tried to use an app called epoc cam, so i can use my phone as a camera, and use obs to live stream and a second camera, it can barely do the job, even if connected to a 5g network or on a direct connection it still is way too slow. Apple tried. I’m done with mine. Being a music maker, the m1 is not compatible with the java runtime environment redistributable packages required by some plugins from native access, that are not cross compatible. If you are a musician there m1 is not the right choice. The m1 will not run massive x, it runs some vsts and some it won’t. When you try to open multiple things like fl studio, obs, epoc cam, safari, it hardly works well.
So… if my understanding is correct… you’re mad at the product beeecause you bought the wrong product? Because the one you wanted wasn’t launched at the time?
Spoilers: 1) It’s slower than his M1 Pro notebook, 2) there’s a glitch when it wakes from sleep when connected to 2 monitors, 3) Bluetooth glitch.
There. Saved you 10 minutes.
4) the title is clickbait.

Got two. One at work and one at home. Had zero issues so far. Best no-fuss computer i've ever had.
@blacknester for fps games you will need a real pc with heat sink the size of the mac mini and graphics card bigger than the mac mini if you can buy one.
Can it run roblox, Fortnite, war thunder, and stuff like that?
@@Garrettthebanana I don't think so. It sucks for gaming (few games are compatible with the architecture used by the M1 chip). Great for productivity though.
You must not be very smart
Sadly hold its value very badly . Can buy used one for pennies now. Would consider buying one but have more powerfull win laptop for my workflow
How do you even get Apple to do that? Perhaps in the US, where customer service is a thing. Customer service in Australia is just appalling
I had the same issues with display. All you have to do is go to settings, than energy saver and check “prevent Mac from automatically sleeping when the display is off”. And everything works as it was supposed to. Hope I helped 😄
Yeah. And quit yer complainin'. Time to remove this video and put up another video on how to fix it.
This computer feels like the first time you get into an electric car and wonder where the engine sound went.
Key fix: upgrading to 11.1 (from 11.0.1).
To get a Mac display to become active, you need the Mac to query the display, and the display to answer with its name and capabilities. Otherwise, the display will not be shown as present, and no data will be sent to the display.
This query is only sent at certain times:
• at startup
• at wake from sleep
• at insertion of the Mac-end of the display-cable, provided everything on that cable is ready-to-go
• on invoking Option-(Detect Display) button in Displays preferences (from another display, such as the built-in)
so try doing some of those things and see if the display comes alive.
I just got a new M1 Mini and have had this issue with the display going to sleep and not waking up after.
I will give this a try! 🙏🏽 😊

Ive noticed odd delays in getting a picture when plugging into my laptops HDMI Port.
Noticed around 4:56 that the editor is playing the section of video that we’re hearing the audio for. Nice touch.

My MacBook Pro 2014 battery is dying (2nd time for swollen battery). Can't afford to get a high-end Mac. I'm thinking of the Mac Mini 16GB/512GB since I use the Adobe Suite (NO video editing). I'm concerned about compatibility with my LG UltraWide Monitor. It's about 5 or 6 years old. Do you think there will be distortion or that the Mini won't recognize then size and format?
The Specs:
34UM65-P 34" Widescreen LED Backlit UltraWide IPS Monitor. The enhanced aspect ratio is accompanied by an ultra
high definition screen resolution of 2560 x 1080.
Apple's info for Mini Displays:
• Simultaneously supports up to two displays:
• One display with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz connected via Thunderbolt and one display with up to 4K resolution at 60Hz connected via HDMI
The only other option I may have is to get the 13.3 MacBook Pro, but am unsure if that will be more compatible and if I'll need to get additional adaptors/hub. I do have a 7 outlet USB hub now.
Thank you for any help you can offer.
Docker sucks on anything else other than Linux.
It's very likely that you have faulty or underspecced HDMI cables. Have you tried connecting via mini Display Port or replacing your cables?

Thanks for your comment. I was thinking about buying a MacStudio with the cheapest M1 Ultra for game development. Now I know that I must choose a PC.
Mine is hooked to a 50” 4k lg tv. Runs great. Occasional Bluetooth issue but outside of that it’s an amazing machine. Quiet and crazy power efficient.
I have the same m1 mini and when I wake it from sleep sometimes the monitor just shows noise, and I have to disconnect/reconnect the hdmi…
Why don't you connect your macbook to the monitor?
I have all the same issues - especially on wake up from sleep. As an added bonus, if I hit restart, I get a kernel panic every time
The monitor issue is with your set up I have dual 4k monitor set up 1 samsung 1 acer and I do not have any issue also my mouse and keyboard logitech sculp and no issues not even 1 time so I do not have those issues with my set up
Had the same Bluetooth Problems on most of my machines. Solved itself when I switched from Wifi to LAN Connection. I think my Router is spamming the 2.4ghz Band und screws up the Blue Tooth frequencies.

My 2014 mac has problems with screen wake up too. I was considering M1 mini not now sounds like it has the same problem.
Is the machine still buggy or has they fixed it?
I have serious problem with bluetooth keyboard - it doesn't work on log-in screen. So, I have second keyboard with wire =\
I bought the m1 mac mini the week it was released. I did have the blank display from sleep problem (only use a single 4K LG monitor) but the problem is gone now (software update?). No other problems.
I got a m1 Mac mini. My duel screen setup usually is fine. The Bluetooth issue is a problem. That is why I use wired trackballs and keyboard.
I have the same model as you. Zero problems with bluetooth and zero problems waking up after sleeping. However, I only have one 4K monitor.
Works fine.
hey, what keyboard is that? it looks great...
Thanks for your comments, monster mini!
@@Craylor Hit me up through DM on any social media, or you have my email address. Let me know if you want some help with this. I'm pretty familiar with this type of issue. Love the video by the way. I love seeing how much you've grown with the channel!!

These are annoying issues, but it’s nothing to get angry about, and it doesn’t make the m1 mini TRASH.
did you get your answer with the new mac studio?
Got the same Mac with two monitors never missed?????
Multiple monitors issue will drive you nuts, the lack of ports will drive you crazy, the Bluetooth connection loss will make go insane.
I have the same problem with dual screens. what you do is restart your mac. it will fix the monitors
I have one 4k monitor connected to hdmi and the other using display port also 4k and I’ve not faced any issues. Probably is the cable set up I have since I use DP cable
I have the same problem with the Bluetooth am with the monitors
I am just sitting here with my Mac Mini M1 and cannot decide which brand dual 4k's I am gonna buy..because of these Dual Display problems. So apple hasn't fixed the sleep wake monitor issue till now :( sad..
10 minutes of my life down the drain.
8 or 16 GB RAM?

Most macs have Bluetooth issues. Just buy a corded mouse and keyboard, I did, and my Mac mini had absolutely no issues since I bought it. I'm glad I switched from windows to my first Mac, ie the mini, after my pc crashed for the last time. The Mac mini works like a dream by comparison
you were comparing the fitst chip of apple with the last of intel, just watch your words today...
And u can get for 499 on the education site 😮
My Mac mini was trash too. Wi-Fi didn’t work. Apple replaced it with a Mac mini, also defective, Bluetooth didn’t work. I sent it back. My account fell into a black hole. The telephone support told me a refund was on the way. Weeks have passed, no refund. What TF is going on at Apple?
I don’t have any problems with my base Mac mini M1 , it runs circles around my 2012
Mac mini 16gb ram 1tb ssd. If your not running M1 native apps it’s going to be slow, all of my apps are M1 native so don’t have any problems .
8gb or 16gb version?
Maybe its a batch hardware defect
- Just sell your Mac mini and wait for the M2 or the Pro/Max in it. Problem solve
Do you think the new mini with M-pro or M2 will be better for video editing"'? That would be awesome
@@ismagine No it will be worse.
I've had 0 issues so far EXCEPT my 2nd monitor wake up every 10 min or so while the PC is asleep unless I manually turn them off. However, this is an issue on all m1 mac's.
I bought the 16GB Mac Mini at launch and it’s incredible. I love it. 4k video rendering with no issues whatsoever.
Do you recommend it ?
The Mac Mini is a great productivity machine, but like many first generation products, it has its issues…
I avoided the M1 products for that reason. However, I may jump-in with M2…
I had issues with Bluetooth (also 2018 intel). I got a Bluetooth adapter and all works. Please…Please.get to the point!
I have also wake up problems, but on my M1 Pro MacBook Pro 16", and only if closed shell and used on 2 (!!!) external screens
If i use only 1 screen, typically the TV over HDMI directly, no problems.
And i completely get the M1 Mac Mini is pretty "bad"... only the fact that you get for 2x the price a lot more performance AND A AWESOME NOTEBOOK with a 14" M1 Pro!
You bought a “used” Mac Mini. Could be a defective unit someone sold on?
Guess this dude is getting the new Mac Studio.
In conclusion you shouldn’t have to do these things in 2022😒
My M1 mini never stutters, not sure why yours does, I think you have a bad Mac get it replaced I love mt M1
So you’ll be ordering the new Mac Studio then?
why tf don't you just hookup your macbook when at the desk?
So… if my understanding is correct… you’re mad at the product beeecause you bought the wrong product? Because the one you wanted wasn’t launched at the time?
I don't know how people can use wireless input devices. Too many things can go wrong.
