hell yeah that's cool you rock thanks for sharing and thanks for the lesson im really impressed with that all went together and came out great now if i can find me some of that vulcanized paper liners I'll try that too thanks again 👍👍
Really appreciate the time you take to make your videos and share your methods! You are now my favorite knife making channel and keep up the great work!
Dude…just found your channel. You are a badass!!! Wanting to start making knives. My late father was an awesome knife maker, but I never got into it with him. Now he’s gone, I wish had had him teach me. Thanks for you videos!
Even with the little hick up those turned out great. The colors are awesome together and you might be able to grind that little hick up out . Great video thanks
Man! This video is one week too late! I had the same thing happen to me with my scales. I had three piece scales separated by two sets of three G10 vertical shims. I was so proud of myself for making a jig to hold all this together, dry fitting everything and knowing where I would put my clamps and in what order only to come back the next morning to find all the shims had popped up.🤬 I ended up cutting it apart and re-glueing. Lesson learned. Thanks for taking the time to take us along for the ride. Your videos are well done and very helpful. Keep it up!
My grinder only has 3 speeds fast, faster, and really fast. I normally have it on the faster or really fast. I don't use a lot of pressure to make sure that I don't burn the wood.
I just did a practice run making segmented scales and that spacer does like to float once the clamps are tightened. Looks like I may have put a tad bit much epoxy on one side which may have caused the movement. It's in place now. Let the waiting game begin! I use G-flex by west systems which takes 7-10 hours to cure. I wait 24hrs before I work the piece to be in the safe side.
Why I decided that 5 min epoxy wasn't for me. I prefer 1/2 hour epoxy, wear surgical gloves and take my time with scales. Less angst and you're not rushing. 😉😜😎 Good video.
I had the same issue happen to me with a set of scales I was doing for a butcher knife I was redoing for my self. damn little shim piece popped up and caused a gap when i glued it all up..
Which ones? The 1 x 30 is from Harbour Freight. The drum sander I picked up from a friend who was clearing out his wood working shop. The 2 x 72 is a Belmont that I bought online from Belmont. I had previously built my own 2 x 42.
Great video! Learned a lot about multiple part scales. I never know the right thickness, as you used for the G10 liners. What thickness did you use that can cut with scissors. Thanks for the geat video.
Have you ever made solid silver scales for a knife or know of someone that would do it for me? The knife I'd like to put the silver scales on is the spyderco Para 3.
I’ve never seen vulcanized paper. I may have to get some. Btw, paduak is a fraud. Looks awesome when cut. A month later it’s dull brown and boring. Such a bummer because that orange is so cool.
I always remember to wear gloves right after I glue my fingers together. Love the videos!

Nice selection of woods - good contrast!! Thank you.
Great video, went straight to the act of building versus talk talk talk and no action.

Nice video! This helps me if I ever get around to scale making
Thank you!
What a coincidence i have a paduak tree and black palm in my back yard....NOT !! Good work.
Love the knife, great work. I'd totally buy the shirt.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting them to do that at all. lesson learned for sure.
Nice! Wax paper is great
5 minutes goes fast when you’re trying to get them all together before the epoxy sets up. Looks nice
Yes it does!
I’m trying this next. Thanks for the guide
They look great to me mate, lovely combination of materials 👍
I needed that video for my project. Thank you
Excellent video. Can wait to try those vulcanised paper liners. Hope they’re not as expensive as G10 in UK
Excellent video. Thanks 👍
Great video. Thank you! I’ve been wanting to try this.
Great video. What speed do you run 2x72 when sanding wood? Thanks

Looks like a designed ellement I like it. Maybe I'm weird, but it adds a visual unlike other multi piece scales.
Love that color contrast! Working on my first ever knife now.
looking dorward to seeing the outcome of this knife!
New subscriber. Thanks for the great content and for your recent daily videos. Stay safe and God bless
Thank you for showing us what you did wrong and what to look for next time. I appreciate your time
Great work. Congratulations!
Nice job, thanks for sharing!
Man it looks great, but I cant get the picture of a duracell battery out of my head!
Sweet scales! I believe the knife is going to be absolutely stunning when you finish.
Stay safe!

Qq
Gorilla Glue brand has some awesome clear epoxy. Give it a shot if you see some for a good price
I personally think the gap kind of looks nice, it looks pretty symmetrical and could easily pass for something you did on purpose
Thanks for bringing us good content every day this week 👍
This video reminded me that we’ve been in this pandemic for over a year now. Gosh.
ThankQ for sharing. Where can I find the vulcanized paper for liners?
Nice choice on the handle

Good video.
A bit of white paint pen and no one would know. 😮
Thanks for making this video. It was instructional. :)

Hey I’m a starter blacksmith and I’d love if you make more videos of how to make handles for knives and also do you make all your knives yourself?
Yup, I make all my knives. I'll be doing a series on handles soon.
Get a piece of angle iron and cut a roll of wax paper to the width of it for your glue table. Ten times easier than dealing w all that tape.
Ha where you get the sander from?
Which ones?
The 1 x 30 is from Harbour Freight.
The drum sander I picked up from a friend who was clearing out his wood working shop.
The 2 x 72 is a Belmont that I bought online from Belmont.
I had previously built my own 2 x 42.
Why don't you build up the handle material prior to resawing it?
Great video! Learned a lot about multiple part scales. I never know the right thickness, as you used for the G10 liners. What thickness did you use that can cut with scissors. Thanks for the geat video.
These were Vulcanized Paper liners, I have a link for them in the description if you want to check them out.
that was useful vlog i liked a lot and became a fan
I have never made knife scales before, so I’m completely ignorant of everything. What’s the purpose of the vulcanized paper?
There is no mistakes, just happy little accidents
Hello.
I got a knife making kit and I am wondering if I need the black spacing material for the handle???
The black liner is what bonds the 2 pieces together. You need it to make the sections become one piece.
Do you need to use the liner? Is it important?
The one I used as a spacer, no. The one I used as a backer helps with a little rigidity.
I use wax paper rather than tape, it’s cheaper
The Duracell knife
Glue up on greased cooking paper. Just lifts off
Good Idea, I will try that next time.
Nice

I made the mistake of putting my grip holes on the tang too close to where the ends of the scales will be. Leads to an awful lot of splitting.
Where can I get vulcanized liner
Amazon and Texas Knife Supply
Have you ever made solid silver scales for a knife or know of someone that would do it for me? The knife I'd like to put the silver scales on is the spyderco Para 3.
No sir, I haven't. Silver, if you are talking about the precious metal, is too soft for my liking to do a set of handle scales out of.
Can I use veg-tan leather instead of the vulcanized paper of 1:05 ?
Yup, you sure can.
Where can I buy vulcanized paper or something that will work the same other than online?
Great work btw
I typically just get the liner material from amazon.
Do you forge the knifes yourself? Just found you videos the other day. I’m working on a few file knifes. Thanks man
@@nhtocali6585 yes I do, I've got a bunch of videos on it. You should definitely check those out.
Great great great.. new subr 🔔
The Handel looks like a battery but overall great job
Can I use brass instead of liner?
Yup, you sure can.
I’ve never seen vulcanized paper. I may have to get some. Btw, paduak is a fraud. Looks awesome when cut. A month later it’s dull brown and boring. Such a bummer because that orange is so cool.
Looks like a Duracell battery
HAHA, I didn't see that till now.
How do you talk so slow when your hands are moving so fast?!? haha!
WHERE DO Y0U NUY THE PAPER LINER AT , CAN YOU SEND ME A LINK ….THANK YOU
Jantz at knifemaking.com/
as well as Pop's Knife Supply popsknife.supplies/
Great video. Only problem is your pronunciation of Padauk. It should be pronounced Peh-Douk (Douk pronounced like Doubt). Hope this helps.
I am, new subscriber )
Mate to close with finger to band saw !! It's enought one mistake.
Real men don't wear gloves. Lol
You taught me some things in this video and the follow on video to it. Thank you.
